And yet, the new recommendations state that mammograms shouldn't be offered until the age of 50.?

It would be nice if, just once, a wonderful story like this could be commented on without politics being brought in to it... as a cancer survivor, I am thrilled for this woman.. fighting the fight is hard...

Wow, stage 3 at such a young age and almost no family history. I am 37 and just had a baseline done. So glad I did it. Good luck, Wendy!

My daughter Ronda is 22 days out from surgery.....she completed the Walk today with friends and family. I met so many wonderful women with incredible courage and strength (as my daughter has.) Although Survivor is a great term, these women are doing much more than surviving...they are living life to the fullest!

Hey Dispatch, what happened to the 2-page spread that was supposed to be in today's pink paper with the info about the race and the map?

I just can't help the fact that I started crying half way through this. I lost my sister to rectal cancer at age 47 and my father in law at age 52 to colon cancer. I am so very happy for the survivors. Keep strong.

This has nothing to do with President Obama's healthcare reform. The recommendation for women not having mammograms came from the American Medical Association. This was also the same year I was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 46.

This story was like reading my own except I was 41. A mammogram saved my life ordered by my family MD. My GYN thought it was my normal thickness. I am glad my MD also don't agree with the recommendations to wait until age 50 for yearly mammograms!

Fantastic article, Tim. Thank you. I'm sure Chris (her husband) has seen her tears, but as a neighbor, I've never seen anything but a strong and courageous mom.
