As a college student in Phoenix, Ariz. who is currently working on a research paper on suicide and Native American youth, your facts need to be corrected Mrs. Manychildren. I've looked on IHS.gov websites, Health Nations (Robert Wood Johnson Foundation), Health and Human Services Department, BIA (BIE).gov websites and many other too long to mention, but they all tout that same statistic, which is suicide is rampant on NAVAJO and all of Native America. From what I heard, the Social Service Division of NN, and other health agencies on Navajo repeatedly fail to use up their funding each year and sometimes don't get that funding back despite all they had to do was re-submit grant paperwork. Suicide is alive and well and THRIVING on Navajo, so don't call it like it just started Manychildren. That is a disservice to those youth who were calling out for help, and due to the negligent representatives who work in health, their call went unheeded. Suicide is growing and recording the numbers isn't being done because attempted numbers aren't counted. Call any IHS PIO to ask and they will deflect the question. Please do a follow up on youth and suicide on Navajo DT, you'll get the story right.

It's a lot doing education and counseling services. I don't see any uppity student full of text references living in thoreau and being a human being? Kind of hard to criticize from a cradle. Would you fill out the grant apps constantly and do that part if actual people in town were the physical outreach?
I'm not looking for native money? The grants can go to the things that help the problem. Rent and food is what I need and we'll crop that ourselves. There's getting ready to be a lot of shortage in foods and medicine plants. That's what we have the knowing of.
But we would open a club if it was desirable. Gong fu is good for all things and grants don't cure suicide, life and living people do. It's not going to get easier either.
I just wanted to find acres to crop we could manage and room for critters. Where I am more normal.
(I had to live with gringos in the Midwest and it was not as bad about feeling "different" as here. That kind of surprised me :))
I was looking for sanctuary and I've lived community service all my life, teaching or medicine. Blacksmith shop for 8 years too.
I'm no stranger to things that trouble. It is just that if you want a people and strong you have to put in your life too, not just push meaningless paper and disburse funds. You can't help the people by making papers. You can only try to help by being the people.
My heart is towards you. Maybe my feet will find a way to come see if we can find a farm and bring our few people. All we do is garden and whatever good we can do. The outside world doesn't distract us much. It is not going to get easier and we need to be around people who garden. I can do the medicine.
People help people. Paper is something people get wrapped in so somebody else can say "see? I did the job."
Best wishes to the people of thoreau what ever power does with us. We wish you good heart.
