THOMASVILLE — Three individuals were caught attempting to strip copper out of a local unoccupied business building Wednesday, Thomasville Police Department officials said.
Sgt. Melvin Johnson, assistant commander of TPD Criminal Investigation Division, said Thursday the suspects were caught at the Duda plant on Old Cassidy Road between 8 and 9 p.m. Wednesday.
“They were in the building and getting ready to start removing copper when they were caught by Thomasville-Thomas County SWAT team members,” he said.
Those arrested were Thaddeus John Jakubowicz, 27, and Sidney Williamson, 55, both of Tallahassee, Fla., and James David Borrows, 40, who claimed that he was residing at a motel in Thomasville.
Johnson said these arrests are the result of a months-long investigation involving several area counties, including Mitchell, Brooks, Decatur, Grady, Worth and Thomas.
Departments in several of these counties combined efforts to form a small task force.
“The area has been plagued with thefts at unoccupied warehouses and businesses where individuals have been stripping copper wire and tubing,” Johnson said.
The commander said it was decided to place cameras at the unused Duda plant, hit once before, because the task force suspected the perpetrators would attempt to strike again.
“We set up there last night, did surveillance and saw these three males enter the building, carrying tools to remove copper,” Johnson said.
Jakubowicz and Williamson are both charged with two counts of possession of burglary tools, one count of possession of marijuana less than an ounce, and two counts of burglary.
Borrows is charged with two counts of possession of burglary tools and two counts of burglary.
All three were being held at Thomas County Jail Thursday awaiting arraignment, expected to happen today.
Charges are also pending in other counties, Johnson said.
At this time, these incidents appear to not be connected with recent copper stripping at area farms, officials said.

I am glad to see that the one behind this is in jail, don't know for how long, but there is another individual that is kin to this person, living right there in Thomasville, that will get his sooner or later. He sits back and laughs at the ones that are in jail, and he has as big a part in it as the others, They will get him sooner or later, and I am going to celebrate like hell, he is a coward, and they are out here stealing from hard working people that actually works for a living, and all he does is sell dope, steals copper and makes babies. Well, maybe the next house they hit or building they hit, will be a law enforcement, and they BURN HIS ASS!! he is a "CHIP" (hint, hint} off the old block.

If this was Colquitt County all the judge would do is fine him $100 and put him on probation. Like probation is going to reform a criminal ! That's a laugh.
