You're comment is pure ignorance- This sounds like an excellent plan and I totally support preserving the bloodstream of the world our lakes, rivers and streams. People like you are so quick to shut this idea down claiming there's somewhere else this money can go but too lame to have a real plan of action. As you can tell by the dwindling lobster return off the coast this year- Something must be done to preserve life on the water. Mya DeLong - Commercial Fisherman <quoted text> So, we, the Connecticut and United States citizens need to spend 3 million dollars to bring the lobster back and then Mya Delong can then go harvest them. So, why don't we cut out the middle man and give Mya the money directly. Sounds like a plan!!

People before you get your shorts all twisted on this. Fisherman are the only ones who pay a 10% excise tax(Wallop Breaux funding) on all items that they purchase. This money is redistributed back to each state based on the number of fishing licences sold in the state.
What is Wallop Breaux? As explained in the House Resources Committee’s Subcommittee on Fisheries Conservation, Wildlife and Oceans’ oversight plan “Federal Aid in Sport Fish Restoration Act of 1952 (Sport Fishing and Boating Enhancement Fund or the Wallop-Breaux Trust Fund): This fund is derived from fees, taxes, and duties imposed on (recreational) fishing equipment,(non-commercial) motorboat fuel, imported watercraft, and fishing tackle. The revenues are allocated to the States, on a formula basis, and are used to protect natural resources and enhance recreational (fishing and boating) opportunities for millions of Americans. Since its inception, more than $2 billion has been collected and allocated to the States.” In recent years this fund has provided over $350 million annually to the various State agencies responsible for managing fresh and salt water fish. Understandably these funds are dedicated to recreational boating and fishing programs and projects, on face value an example of users paying the fees and getting the government services in return.
How would you feel if you agreed to an earmarked tax to be used on your golf, tennis, softball or any other sport equipment and then told that it should go somewhere else.
Danbury has lost the monies that were set aside from this fund for the improvements to Lattin's boat launch due to the Efforts of congressman Mr Maloney to close the ramp. The State must use this money for the purpose that they decide or lose it.

It would be cheaper to rent several limosines and drive the fish upstream. Bar and gratuity extra to be paid for by the fish.

Great points Lee, as a fisherman part of our paychecks goes directly to preservation and hatcheries. And Gunnhild it's not about the money, I don't want to see CT's waterways go to Sh*t. wouldn’t you like to go to these streams and teach your children/ grandchildren the great past-time of fishing? I fish in Alaska which has one of the only 'sustainable' fisheries left because proper regulations are put into play, and people take note on how they effect the environment and what can be done to protect it. Please 3 million in the scheme of things is nothing- This money which is taken directly from my paycheck is put aside for PROJECTS LIKE THIS! If I'm not complaining about it, you sure as H*LL shouldn't be either!
