What a pathetic bunch, those women bashers who post here. Its disgusting to think that all they can do is harp on long dead notions of gender roles instead of simply congratulating Elissa on being the first female to make it to the state wrestling tournament and congratulating Jacoby on winning the match. Misogyny is alive and well in many it seems, but a word or reality for those of you who deem themselves the defenders of feminine virtues, your daughters aren't listening. They're going out and defying your narrow vision at every turn. And more power to them. Elissa make you all look like sniveling classless clowns.

I am conflicted on this story. One the one hand, she was not given a free pass to the tournament. She earned her way and represented herself to the best of her ability. In that regard, it is inspiring. On the other hand, how does one wrestle against a girl. Yes, she is a wrestler - but that is something you can't ignore. This is not Danica Patrick in a car. This is much more personal, much more intimate. Certainly her gender may have been an influence on her opponents - I never wrestled, so I can't say this with any degree of accuracy. I would like to hear from some of her opponents - or at least see her in a match. Is she talented or is it a case of not knowing how to be physical with someone you are never supposed to manhandle? I would have serious reservations wrestling her for that reason - I don't believe in using my strength or size to dominate a woman, yet this is the point of the sport. How do you cast aside your upbring when you step onto the mat? I realize the point of the different classes is to match up you with someone of similar size, I guess if that were the case, I might feel slightly better about it.

I have mixed feelings about this. I have no problem with females competing against males in things like hockey, football, basketball, baseball etc. etc. etc.

But wrestling...hmmm. In wrestling you are grappling with your opponent's body. Not even in football is there so much direct body contact. And when you're talking about teenagers they're in full hormonal flux.

Could some of those 32 wins be because the boys involved felt conflicting feelings about wrestling a girl? Some parents educate their boys to be gentlemen and not fight with girls. The boys may have been at least subconsciously holding back because they were taught not to hurt a girl.

In sports where no or little physical contact takes place then there probably wouldn't be the same kind of barrier.

I just don't think wrestling should be a mixed gender sport. Other sports yes. Wrestling no.

Oh and Dale? I'm a liberal as well.

Elissa made a nice effort. The match was close for about 3 minutes, but it became obvious that Jacoby was stronger, and his long arms and legs made it tough for Elissa. Especially after she dropped to the mat for the third or fourth time, he figured out how to defend that move. I wouldn't be surprised to see her back at the state tournament again. Plus, kids who can stay at a very low weight as juniors and seniors have a decided advantage against younger wrestlers.

No, you're a retard because you're picking on an innocent high school kid. So yeah that makes you a retard in my book too.

What? You never compete in any sports in school? Never won or lost at something? It's pretty obvious you guys have no class.

You know what I'd tell my son if he was in line to wrestle a girl? I'd say "you know everything I taught you and everything inside you tells you this is wrong, so you will not wrestle her, you will forfeit the match if necessary, and if it cost you a spot on the team so be it".

Shame on the parents who allowed the girl to wrestle, and shame on the parents who have not taught their sons to act with honor.

She has every business to be in this tournament and beat people to get there. "feel bad for her". This is what she wants, I am sure she "feels bad for you and your naive thinking"

Why not just create a ladies division and just hand her the State Championship medal? This is embarassing for all parties involved. She has no business in this tournament. Its a circus sideshow at best.
I feel bad for her.

Last time I checked she had to earn that spot to go to state. Elissa got second in sections behind Nate Lynn. The two of them met 5 times this year with her winning 3 of the 5 times. He is now in the semifinals. Tell me how she doesn't belong. These comments are all about her gender and nothing about her ability. You don't know anything about her or her coach so spare me the comments on what they thought

She never stood a chance, her coach knew it, she knew it, and the wrestling community knew it.
What a clown act this was.
Who are the idiots, that let this happen?
