"We didn't do the brownouts because we thought it was a good idea," said Chico Supervisor Jane Dolan. "We did it because of our budget situation."

I think you're a liar! You had the money in the budget to avoid it but gave it to the library system!

Connelly did the right thing in shutting the idiot that is Iturria up. I think Iturria has some serious issues with fire protection. Iturria is making enemies all over the county and it is only a matter of time until his completely incompetent handling of the finances of this county lands him in the unemployment line.

Kirks house burned, she is of course in an emotional state and vulnerable to the selfish wishes of the fire department.
I think her judgment is probably impaired. Kirk was mean to the people in Concow when she basically told them "jokingly" they could go to hell if they expected to get relief from there fees assessed do to the need of the rebuilding of there homes. After they were burned out by the back fires of the fire departments doings. It seems her "Neapolitan ice cream life" is melting around her ears.
The truth is. We are doing fine with the brown outs and the reality is we could be doing better with the closure of more of the fire stations, like totally!

It would be irresponsible to spend $ they don't have. The $7 million is what was left over from last year's budget. What Ituria was saying is that $ mixed in with this years budget might keep the lights on in the remaining fire stations, but without it the County may not have the $ to pay it's bills. Not a good option.

Instead of guaranteeing firefighters year round OT pay, why not have them continue to do more with less like everyone else, until an educated decision can be made? It doesn't look like property tax receipts are going to be any better this year than predicted. Which means that $7 million is not a surplus.

You have to understand that fire fighter consider themselves very special. And the truth is they are not, the reality is they have a strong and greedy union. We need to take responsibility for ourselves and stay fire safe.

A more resonable pay and benefit package would allow 24/7 coverage with all stations at full staffing. It's time for a reasonable restructureing of pay scales and the elimation of excessive overtime.

Are you trained, ready and willing to risk your own life going into burning buildings to save other people, and to give emergency medical care until paramedics arrive? Are you on call to perform emergency rescues in dangerous situations, and to respond to hazardous materials situations that could be hazardous to your own health? Did you put your life on the line fighting the infernos of last year's wildfire storms?

What DO you do for a living? Just wondering.
