Plan now who can teach and who can play and get a mini tennis match going........even later, parents may want to join in the fun, and have a family Mom and Pop vs Kids contest for fun. It is long overdue. Time for some family FUN for parents as well as the children to enjoy together.
Maybe even an Easter Egg Hunt with a movie and snacks after, like what was done long ago.

The Adult and Youth Recreation Director has a very adequate budget to take care of these two problems,... a net for the tennis court and a fence for the tennis players and basketball court.
The bus trips are much easier to do, but it isn't all about TRIPS, it is all about filling needs that open other doors to enhance each program.
HOW HARD IS THAT TO DO??????? The Recreation Program funding is VERY adequate if used for youth and seniors wisely and on a priority basis.
Time to make a change in the directorship,of both these programs, especially since the MINK thing.
Check the Town Budget and see what you find there.

Been there, done that. Now it is someone elses turn to run A SUCCESSFUL PROGRAM that involves more than JUST TRIPS, TRIPS, TRIPs for Seniors and MINK SKINNING in the Youth Program.

Anyone recall when 4-H and County Youth Programs provided outreach workers to come to Forestport? Anyone remember the FORESTPORT CLOVER LEAVES 4-H club when sewing was taught, and cooking and baby sitting classes given and monitored by volunteers.
WHAT THE HECK IS WRONG WITH THIS YOUNGER GENERATION...NO ONE KNOWS HOW TO INSPIRE AND TEACH KIDS AND ALLOW FUN THINGS TO HAPPEN IN THEIR LIVES?
Come On People.

Being a life long resident of Forestport , I can say the ice rink did better when it was at the little league field across from the church , as far as the tennis court they repaved that along time ago , and did not want kids to play basketball there , maybe 2 or 3 people played tennis , I played basketball there and there were always 8 to 10 kids that played there ... we also played baseball there , almost every weekend when the school was still there... Times change , you almost never see kids playing on the ball field , They need to get someone young enough to know what the kids want to do , as far as the director she does a good job with the seniors , needs help with the young people ...

I think your suggestion of getting a younger person to handle the Youth Program is excellent. The current director can stay with the Senior Program.
I think sometimes one gets complacent and looses the FIRE IN THE BELLY that is needed to get these things done. NOW in this day and age with so much temptation and bad things facing our teenagers, and yes, even younger children, the parents and towns people need to get closer to them and let them see just what GOOD OLD FASHIONED FUN REALLY WAS ALL ABOUT.
Thank you Bubba.

With the way the YOUTH REC PROGRAM is going, it sure is NOT FOR THE KIDS>
It is being handled (with the permission of Supervisor, Deputy, and Director of the program) like it is the parents and taxpayers who are WRONG IN EVEN QUESTIONING THEIR ACTIONS.
The majority of the taxpayers whose money they are paid with ....... are kicked under the bus.
I THINK IT IS TIME FOR A FULL OPEN INVESTIGATION STARTING WITH THE SUPERVISOR, RIGHT ON DOWN TO THE MINK..........
Let's do it!!!

Now the Town is considering not lighting the tennis and basketball court anymore. In a town with very few activities to do for our youth this is a real bad idea. Many people use the basketball and tennis court after the sun goes down just as it has always been . There is nothing to do in town except basketball and tennis . If anything the courts should be improved with a better fence not just netting. we are far behind our neighboring towns in providing an adequate facility .
sad thing

Where are the people who have children who need to GET AWAY FROM THE TV etc. and exercise and learn how to have good old fashioned fun.
The community once had adults and groups who cared about the activities for their children. Some of you still here today must recall when there was a church youth group,(CYO) and a 4H group here, and youth participated in COOKING CLASS, SEWING CLASS, WOODWORKING, HORSEMANSHIP, MOVIES IN TOWN HALL, ETC. ETC.
The young parents of today need to wake up and get their kids away from the TV and into learning the feeling of pride in themselves, their friends and their community.
YEAH< YEAH, there are people who will POO POO this, but the Mom'[s and Pops today in this community had more than just ball games.
AND it can happen again if only someone cared anymore.

I think a lot of you people are saying what the kids want , and I think you would be better off asking the kids , times change , and like I said back in the old days , there were always kids and young adults playing ball on the ball field , always kids and young adults playing basketball on the court behind the old school , always kids and young adults on the skating rink when it was on the little league field , as far as fixing the tennis court , it didn't matter when we were young we played without a fence , as long as we had a basketball and a hoop , we played , as long as we had a baseball and a bat we played ball , and as long as we had a shovel we could ice skate in he winter .. just because we did it , doesn't mean the kids today want to do it ... we should find out what they are interested in .....

If it's not available they can't want it . we kind of need a fence for tennis.and lights. seems more important to have good facilities for the kids than landscaping in front of town hall and other cosstly frivel .

Youth are different now. Kid's want to watch TV all the time, and use their ipods, etc, etc, rather than to just have some fun skateboarding or playing touch ball. They have become the proverbial couch potato that we used to speak of in another generation. Parents should see to it they share family time with their children. They will soon be grown and will go out into the world not really knowing they did not have the BEST OF TIMES in their youth.
Families must begin those changes within..........Some of those GOOD OLD DAYS are what we need now more than ever.
Think about this and then hug your kid and spend more time with them. It isn't easy being a youngster in these days.

Inquiring into this, the main reason was that the Town Board at that time, would not allow the town hall bathrooms to be used by the skaters, even with proper supervision from the volunteers who offered time to help, so there was no further activity other than the special plastic liner to be used for the hockey rink, being cut up with a "runaway" town snowblower..........that dream was ended. along with any use for the skating rink that year. and also any hopes of "The Senator's" hockey team..........
Hopefully that attitude that prevailed then is never going to raise its ugly head again, and ruin something that was gifted to the youth of the community.

After the snow blower got lose it continued on and not only did it eat up the special liner it ate some of the senators as well . Everyone thought the dream was over but they regrouped and won the title. The snow blower was never seen again . The story continues to be told over and over to this day . Ironically today there is an out house there and no rink.

the liner was cut up because the building crew at that time could not move it due to its size , and they cut it up to move it and store it , that is fact ... I used to help flood the rink , the bathroom issue is also an excuse , there were never any bathrooms at the little league field when the rink was there and it was never an issue ... and as I have said before if nobody will volunteer to work building and maintaining the rink it won't happen .....

wrong field
the skating rink location referred to here at this time, was the tennis court behind the town hall. The warmng shack was in the upstairs, over the old garage there. NOT by the OLD PLAYGROUND area by the church.
