I had heard this summer that Rachael Ray had bought a place on 4th Lake -- not sure if it is the Holl's Inn or even if true.

Would be nice of someone bought Holls and fixed it up. It was really neglected.

Holl's is being subdivided, just like Eagle Cove. and all the old "resorts" of the grand days of tourism. The last big parcel of privately held Fourth Lake waterfront. It may have been run down, but it was a cool old place, on an incredible piece of property.

Oscar Holl knew more about hospitality than anyone in the area. He was a tyrant to his staff,(unless you were one of his favorites), but he knew how to welcome his guests, and make them feel comfortable and valued...plus, the man made the best Manhattan in the Adirondacks...there were a lot of kids that worked there, many local...imagine when a 2 month a year business could keep you living comfortably, the rest of the year.

you may not have not loved Rosemary and Oscar, but you had to admire them for never giving up...Rosemary waited to die, until season was over, and the place got winterized.

Very sad. The whole Adk region is going belly up. 1900 to 1970 was when it was happening.

I would have loved to see it in their hay day.
I would love to see it now. I've never been there

Belly Up? When was the last time you were in Old Forge? Business is booming. Anyone that wants to complain about Eagle Cove and Holl's being subdivided hasn't been on either property in years. Nothing could be done to save any of those structures after years of neglect. Would you rather have nasty dilapidated structures on the shores of Fourth Lake? Does that help anyone? Think of all the jobs created by new construction!

We stayed at holls in 8 yrs in a row. Totally loved every minute ! Stayed at every cottage there, first with rosemary,( tough old bird, loved her) then with victor, extremly nice guy . He took all the kid for a tour through the hotel at nite. Looking for ghost sign. They loved it !! We had mink, racoon , deer with velvet take graham crackers from the kids hands, and mister bear made many visits mainly to grab the trash and run. Those many memories are priceless. My family and i absolutely LOVED it there!!!!

If you were lucky enough to get married, have a party or just stay at Holl's Inn, you were lucky enough! Rosemary Holl was a fabulous hostess and
kept the hotel as it should have been. Her last few years were tough but Holls Inn and Rosemary will always hold a special place in my Heart. So sad to see the hotel come down. Life is not fair.

Old Forge is no more. This town is NOT booming! Who thinks that?!
Main St. is sad and the Fulton Chain of Lakes is just a bunch of stamped out tacky Palaces without REAL ADK architecture. Sure hasn't improved with age.

well I have lived here for over 40 years....who thinks the town is booming asks Mark Me Down...main street is sad he says... Where you here this fall.. weekends Main street was packed ...bumper to bumper traffic and the sidewalks were crowded..looked like NYC... as a local I would hate that all the time but was fun to see and good for business! Still not an easy place to make a living as is any tourist seasonal area... but Main St. is not sad...lot's of new growth and development. what's really great is it can be packed 'uptown" and yet just a few blocks away it 's a quiet residential town...best of both worlds!

I worked at Holls 's inn, as the executive chef there for a few years, it was a great place and and a lot of hard work, I did not know Oscar, but Rosemary was great to work for. It was the best place I ever new. I wish she had taken me up on my offer to make me a partner to continue to run the place as the days were short for her. I hope the memory of Holl's inn lives for ever in memories, my family lived there while i worked there, and we all wish to back there every summer. RIP ... Rosemary... God Bless

I remember her as a teacher at Marcy Elementary. She was a real nice classy lady!
