What matters---the republican party stands for what it stands for. Bush made similar promises before becoming president and was notoriously closed, antagonistic to Democrats, and aggressive in harming whoever was in the way while pursuing a harmful agenda. Is the right going to move away from oil dependency, or try to help the middle class? No of course not; they're the oil party, supported both Bushes when they went to war, and don't even have another plan. The middle class has consistently become poorer in real terms under republican rule.
