I can't stand how Harley and Annabelle have put Erick on the tourism map. How unthoughtful of them to do that to the good town of Erick. It is horrible of them to keep drawing in thousands of tourists each year, providing folksy fodder for those Disney Imagineers and Pixar movie makers, being written about in books, magazines, newspapers and aired on TV spots throughout the world. What a terrible thing to do! And worst of all, they won't use any of the motel tax money or get government grants to make it all happen!

The true "citizens and tax payers" of Erick are all too well aware that 90% of the comments of this forum are being made by the same group of people over and over. The names have just been changed to protect the guilty as charged. For instance, some people who were affliated with a certain museum, did something somewhat underhanded, and were asked to withdraw from that particular organization. The people who are affliated with a certain tourist attraction and are so dead sure that the majority of the population of Erick is insanely jealous of their success. Maybe there are a few people who would rather that that particular place was not an attraction, but the entire town? Highly doubtful!

Since a great number of comments come from foreign countries, I doubt they are "affiliated" with either the museum or the Sandhills Curiosity Shop.

I know for sure that it's not jealousy causing people in Erick to hate H&A. It's the fact that they chase tourist down the street jumping around with flags like trained monkeys. It makes people in the town look bad cause of the way they act. If you don't believe me talk to the locals and see what they think about the side show.

I just swung by the Sandhills Curiosity Shop and watched the show. Besides being entertaining, it was the most hospitable experience I could hope for. I didn't see anything for anyone to be embarrassed about. Harley and Annabelle charmed everyone in the shop and made them feel welcomed in Erick.

I looked, and I didn't see anything about anybody not wanting two attractions in Erick. I did see quite a lot of writers who definitely do want to see two attractions.

Problem seems to be that the museum is not an attraction and people are sad and disturbed that it hasn't attracted people to Erick, as was promised.

Also did not see anything saying most people in Erick are insanely jealous of the town's main attraction. I did see some suggestions that some of the people associated with the museum are jealous of the successes of the Sandhills shop. But that refers to a very small number of people, certainly not "most" people.

And since it isn't hard to trace comments to the true source of their origin, if you know how, I know that you also know that it is true. Many comments have been made about how jealous the citiznes of Erick are of the attraction in question. Allow me to say again that maybe a few people are jealous, but I do not believe that the majority of those folks give a damn. If they did, I am certain that they would have gotten together a large amount of money and offered to buy said attraction from the owners and then perhaps these horribly jealous people could close it down. All I can say is that Erick has only one thing in town that attract people to stop by and that is the Russels. I lived in Erick for many years but I have also lived in several other towns and cities across the country. From CA to NY. I have never seen a town so against 2 people who bring more people through Erick in one year then the rest of the town does in 20 years. Its no wonder Erick is fading away into nothing more than a larger Texola. There is nothing else Erick can offer as an attraction for people. If there is then why doesn't everyone who hates the Russels start doing something to bring people into Erick. Now I have heard that Love's is talking about shutting down the store there and moving it to Shamrock. I don't know if thats true or not just something I heard. If Love's goes and the Russels aren't there to help Erick survive, then the town will truly die and fade away.

I have a question. Why do the people of Erick want or need "tourists"? I have never been there, but I do have a good friend from there, and my friend tells me that it is a small, rural farming community, not a tourist attraction. So again I ask why the people who live there would want or need tourists? If the money is in farming and the oil fields why do most of you people think that the citizens of Erick are jealous of two people who make their living in another way? Maybe it isn't jealousy that causes the feelings of discontent and dislike. Have any of you considered that?
