Yes you do. 42% of our oil is domestically derived.

All of it is refined here.

Re-read the article title and see if you can catch a ride on the happy clue bus.

Any reason to stick it to the consumers while the gas companies get richer off oil. This price gouging by oil and gas companies is a crime of unheard of proportions and should be investigated by the Feds.

The dimocrats did investigate it in 2008. It was an embarrassment when found out that when prices went down, the oil companies lost money and their stocks plummeted. They also found out that at an average 5% profit they were averaging less than other commodity manufacturers. Most other companies were gleaning up to 12%.

Exxon-Mobil, our largest oil company, is only the 7th largest in the world. Hardly producing enough to affect the global price. In order for us to buy internationally, we have to sell as well.

Price gouging indeed. In the 70's, it went over a dollar. Price would be at $5 adjusted for inflation today. Or we can use Carter's genius policy of limited supply at a set price and have gas lines of 2 hours again.

Truth is, you've been buying it under price for decades.

Refinery outages?
B.S.

First they say it's the turmoil in the middle east....now it's refinery outages?

What are they going to say when the price of gas keeps going up?

Only the leftwing nutjob media really knows the answer to that quesion.

You see, when the plants shut down, it causes a shortage of product on the market. Buyers who need the scant product are willing to pay more to get it because they need it to stay in business. In turn, they pass their cost on to you. It's called the free market.

Now if the government controlled the price, then no one would sell at the low price and buyers would shut down too. Then you would have no gas at the pump. See? So, don't let the government regulate anything and you will be better off.

The price of gas is going up because they found a baby Bigfoot in Japan and he needs diapers. That's why. Next week they'll think of another reason to raise the price of oil and gas.

If big oil knows the public is expecting the price of gas to go up, you can count on it.

Just heard on the national news that $4.00 per gallon is expected this week.....let's wait and see.

There is always something like this going on. Fire in the refinery, explosion in the refinery....what, record profits aren't enough?

Oil companies suck. When they aren't poisoning the environment and killing dolphins and pelicans they are refusing to pay income taxes like the bastards they are.

The strange thing is that a barrel of oil is dropping.......the price was hovering around $112.00 per barrel, and is now $105.00.

http://www.oil-price.net/

Remember back in 2008 when gas almost hit $4.00 a gallon?
A barrel of oil was at $147.00 per barrel.

Things that make you go hmmmmmmm......

But have you noticed the price of food in the grocery store lateley?

My guess is that it's the falling dollar.........

You can thank your boy Obama and the Dumocrat party.
Since the Gulf Oil spill a year ago, we can't get the permits to drill and cut U.S. production by 13%.
Your boy wants windmills and solar panels to power America. What a joke.
Dumocrat Al Gore saved his farm buddies with ethanol and now 10% ethanol injection in your gas is increasing the price as well......and just an fyi, it costs alot more money to grow corn, harvest corn and turn it into ethanol than it does to pump oil out of the ground.
Federal, state and local tax on 1 gallon of gas is about .55cents.
Yet you pay for the roads and bridges every time you re-register your car that you already own and your inspection sticker that only lasts for a day.

It's funny that your boy Obama is letting Cuba drill in the Gulf and Mexico, but we can't.
Hey I know, lets give Brazil $10 Billion so THEY can drill offshore...but we can't....we don't know what we are doing.

Drill in Alaska????
Nope, EPA, too much polution.....

http://www.foxnews.com/us/2011/04/25/energy-a...

So, just suck it up like Obama says and stop complaining...and change that 8 cylinder car into a 4 cylinder, inflate your tires and carpool or take the bus.

The price of oil represents about 2% of the oil sold on the spot market. All of the rest is sold in long term contracts between the producers and the refiners. In the case of the OPEC countries, they can raise or lower their price at will. The cost of gasoline does not always reflect the price of oil. Sometimes, as in the refinery explosion example, the scarcity of gasoline on the market causes the price to rise.

So, if refiners balk at high oil prices and a natural disaster hits (BP) and they lower their output, gas skyrockets. The price of gas always rises in the summer time. That is when the demand is greatest and the supply the leanest.

Oil companies are in business for a profit. Not to provide jobs, not to pay taxes, not to provide employees with benefits, not to ensure there is gas in your tank, not to fight social causes.

Man, great post.

It baffles me that people demonize an industry that has no stated goal to be a non profit charity.

Think people will do that to GE, that got huge tax breaks to research solar panels and wind generation?

Take away all your trash bags, your contact lenses, keyboard, flat screen, cell phone, wire insulation, etc, and see how evil "big oil" is. They produce a product, taking the risks involved, pay huge amounts of tax, generate revenue for our economic system...and the liberals have heart attacks.
