This is pretty good:

The Texas side of Texarkana is in a bind, and everybody knows it. The city is desperate to gain control of the water rights in the area, and this has many of the surrounding communities, including Arkansas, mad and worried. The push for Alcohol sales by city officials is telling as well.

Although there are a great deal of arguments on both sides of the issues, the general consensus is that Texarkana city officials are looking for ways to cover the financial mess they are in, and are looking at financial band-aids to fix the problems. But one thing is just about as clear as a sunny day in Texas, all roads lead to the management of City Manager Larry Sullivan.

There is little doubt from all angles that Sullivan has not done a good job managing the city since coming into the position. He is about as transparent as the Sulpher River, virtually unreachable and even has somebody to handle his Marketing and Public Relations. All this for one person in a city with a population less than 39,000?

But he is the heart and soul of the “Establishment” that either is the savior of the city, or what plaques it, depending on the way you look at it.

The “Establishment” is a machine of strong-arm players and the elite of Texarkana that relish power and control. Again, it is a good thing or a bad thing depending on your perspective.

But Sullivan and the Establishment are not in this alone. They are protected by a city Mayor, Steve Mayo, who seems to be nothing more than “the messenger” and a majority of the City Council Members who show little to no descent.

Ward I Council Member Derrick McCray virtually has been a loyal follower. Ward III Council Member Tina Veal-Gooch claims to be an independent voice (she’s running for re-election against newcomer Leroy Dodd Jr), but the record shows no evidence of that and consistently votes based on Sullivan’s stances. Ward IV Council Member Bob Bruggeman votes right along with the others, and Ward V Council Member Scott Norton has been virtually a ghost.

Only Ward II Council Member Willie Ray and Ward VI Council Member Josh Davis have dared to oppose Sullivan, Mayo and the others.
Last year, the people of Ward VI sent the City a message in the form of a 2 to 1 defeat of establishment favorite Robin Court. Davis has not disappointed and has maintained strong opposition to many of the issues as promised. Sullivan tried to get rid of him when the City of Texarkana requested an Attorney General’s Opinion through Chuck Hopson, Chairman of the Texas House Committee on General Investigating and Ethics. However, the Attorney General ruled in Josh Davis favor.

But when you are the minority in a 4-2 vote, you are virtually powerless.

Ethel Channon wrote a very telling article that portends of the coming election that ends this Saturday.

If you are dissatisfied or satisfied with the Texas side management, there is hope. For there are two elections that will decide the fate of Texarkana, Tx. One outcome will solidify Sullivan at the throne for years to come, or send him packing right out of the gate.

The question is, are you looking for a Josh Davis council member who represents the people, or a Robin Court council member who represented the establishment.

The Ward III race between current seat holder Tina Veal-Gooch and newcomer Leroy Dodd Jr is one piece of the puzzle. Veal-Gooch is coveted by the establishment and is needed to keep Sullivan in charge. Dodd is a voice from within his community and understands that changes need to come from the community, not the elite.

With the vacancy of Ward V Council member, Scott Norton, this seat is

it wouldn't let me post it all, I guess it was too long, so here is the link. http://veritasgrind.com/2011/05/12/the-throne...

Whatever. Dodd is a wannabe preacher. At least TVG has enough professional experience. She doesn't have to hoop and holler. Keep the little boy, I'm voting for a real politician! Tina is a pro, what's Leroy got?

Tina isn't even smart enough not to use profanity during a speech. Her calling someone an a-hole during a campaign speech, in front of children is hardly the mark of a pro.
BUT, what she is a pro at is following orders from King Sullivan.

Your post was very interesting. I believe that I have a good chance to win. I walked the streets and met as many people as possible. I did not take anyones money so I will due what is best for all. I know what to look for to find out if someone is doing something wrong, and I will do what is needed. Don't count me out till the last vote is counted.

With Tatum and Dodd in, Sullivan will be gone and Texarkana can finally have a chance to prosper.

The best thing Leroy has is that he is not a pro. GW

One question Vito. What will you do about Texarkana, Tx being involved up to it`s neck in Agenda 21 and ICELEI (International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives)? Now if you don`t have a clue what I am talking about, I suggest you look it up. I told Aaron the same thing.

Sullivan is the south end of a northbound mule. He is inaccessible to the ordinary citizen, he insulates himself with the lackeys surrounding him. Tina is another "yes" person. I hate to admit it but it seems that the old team is going to return to the council. I think Miller is beating Tatum, and Vito didn't campaiogn enough, no signs does hurt a candidacy.

Forget about Sullivan for another year. Then find qualified candidates. TVG may not be perfect but she is educated and can use decent grammar. Say thank you to the voters in Wake Village who gave Huddleston the thumping he richly deserved.

Wonder where Jeff Akin is now? How about all the comments he made about "being on the losing end"

Hey Jeff, how does it feel to be on the "losing end?"

Guess what Andy, Obama wasn't in the race for the Charter or the Alcohol, and you lost both of those.

Wonder what Tina will do when Miller, Davis and Ray call to send Sullican packing. Is she going to go with what the people want or what you want.

The prize of this race ain't over yet!

Biggie, you need to go see Lacy and let him put you on the couch and counsel with your po' mislead self. There is NO WAY Mr. Miller is going to do what you are suggesting.
