My doctor ask if I own a gun

Actually, I thought that the electronic medical records thing started about ten years ago. I worked for a doctor's office and we converted all the paper files to electronic. The only electronic things lately that was mandated was electronic prescriptions. The government is trying to keep an eye on doctors and pharmacies who are committing Medicaid/medicare fraud as it is RAMPANT. Everything is not a conspiracy. If your doctor asked if you had guns, it is probably because he considers it some kind of risk factor or because his insurance requires him to ask. If anything, they may be telling the government how many # of people have guns, but they cannot tell them YOUR confidential patient information. You can thank Hillary for that one. HIPPAA applies to anyone you don't want having your medial information without your consent, INCLUDING the government. I have never had a doctor ask that question EVER! What I have seen is patients going to and fro to every doctor within a hundred mile or more radius to get prescriptions for narcotics. They needed a system to track patients and doctors who are making money off of people's addictions. And Medicaid and Medicare fraud are probably some of the main problems with those systems.

And I think that a doctor asking these questions of a child is good. There are a lot of children at risk because their parents don't use child restraints. And furthermore, look at the child who brought the gun to College Hill Middle School. If some gun locks were in place and the gun were secured, the gun would not have been available to the child.

its like those affirmative action questions at the end of a job application.
they say its voluntary and just for statistics,
but you cant help but think it is being used to decided who they hire so they can get a minority quota.
if a person were a white not disabled not veteran, those questions are neutral to hindering at best, there is no advantage in completing that page, and yet you look noticable for not completing that page. catch 22.

The doctors are not asking out their concern or risk, they are asking because the government is requiring them to do so. I learned that information at a doctors office.

So it is the government that wants this information.

the doctor may be taking a jab at you, thats his cheap shot way of saying he thinks something is wrong with you so he asked a rude insulting question. only you know if his attitude was sincere or disrespectful, but it was disrespectful then that would be a sad indication of poor customer quality service he is likely to give you in the future.

maybe the doctor doesnt ask everyone that question. this person is just assuming that to be true. maybe the doctor is insulting them by acting hateful. if he is then that is a good sign you need to get a different doctor. if the guy is going to smart off like he thinks you are a nut that likely carries a gun, then he probably isnt giving this person good medical service. or doesnt intend to give them good medical service.

<quoted text>that's stupid. They ask because of risk. Just like if you're a smoker, your premiums are higher bc you are a risk, not a liberal okay?
Why are they just now asking?? It has to do with OBAMACARE and your second amendment rights!!! With the initiation of the death panels, your risk is not their main concern!!! JMO

Only if you are a Medicare patient right now. When we get to full blown government run health care, all will be asked.

Yep, the government will likely be collecting information on a number of things that have nothing to do with health.

Are we getting so paranoid that we have to make up lies to try to sway other people's thinking? Enough about doctors asking questions about your guns. Mine has never asked me anything even close to that.

Strange thing happened to myself the other day when I went in for a tripple nipple bypass. My Doc aksed if I owned a gun. I told him yes and informed him it was just a blank gun. After scratching his scalp for a second he looked at me and told me to take my sorry a$$ on down the road. I was really puzzled by his odd behavior and aksed his sexcretary what the deal was with blank guns and she said welllllllllllllll, someone shot his dog with a blank gun lol.

Just the blanks mam

This is a serious topic! Your jokes will be replaced with a jolt of reality when private health care is destroyed and America is on the government single payer plan. As this country has become an apathy nation, we are declining very fast!

wrong you are. I work health care, participate in this BS. IT is fact....but since YOU couldn't find it, it doesn't exist. Obamacare was passed, and there are passages r/t mental illness & firearm violence. However, the questions posed in this system have been tailored to each state. For example, the 'bible belt', Obama chastised them as loving their 'guns and bibles', and the questions posed to patients living in WVA, Kentucky, etc are more intrusive....'how many do you own, ammunition details, etc, etc. This info is not healthcare related, it is an 'alternative way' for gov to gather personal data on citizens; its asked of both pvt insured & medicaid. But since you didn't find it, it doesnt exist, right? so I must have been dreaming when reviewing those maximally invasive questions....the government doesn't want you to believe it anyway

I have yet to be asked by my doctor. Any I'll be damned if I will answer any questions not related to my health. Maybe it's because I self pay. I have no Medicaid or insurance. I just pay my bill and walk two miles a day to maintain my health.
