Bowie County Democrats election strategy

It has been widely speculated that a large amount of democrats in Bowie County crossed over in the 2012 primary. However, it is no longer speculation, it actually occurred, but not for the reasons originally believed.

At first glance, it was wrongly assumed that it was a strategic move to help place the more “moderate” republicans in position to succeed. Those who originally believed this (including me) were way off the mark, as nothing could be further from the truth. After speaking with a couple of close “liberal” acquaintances, I have learned that there was one, and only one strategy. Put the weaker republican candidates in place to face their democrat challengers in the general election, thus, increasing the chances of democrat victory.

They were 50% successful.

There were two target races. Sherriff and County Clerk.
In the Sheriffs race, Jim Roberts has a strong presence in Bowie County, especially among wake village republicans. And, as we all have learned in the last few years, Wake Village usually determines the elections in contested races. That in combination with the history between Prince and Landers, made Landers the weaker candidate. Democrats who support Prince (which is most of them) showed out in droves to vote for Landers to insure a stronger General Election for James Prince. They got their wish, and prince is the heavy favorite for November.

In the County Clerks race, Tina Petty was seen across the board as a much stronger candidate. Moderate and Conservatives alike were not confident in Kathy’s education, or background and history in Bowie County. Her association with a very unpopular Sterling Lacy, and troubles she created for the previous county clerk, carried over and are still fresh on the minds of voters who want a qualified, educated and well-intended person in the clerks office. That perception against a very likable, polished, educated and well groomed Dr. Hill had Democrats salivating for a Hill vs. Hicks race till November. Unfortunately for them, that didn’t happen. Even with the heavy democrat push, Ms. Hicks still could not pull off a victory. This will be a tight race.

I am not sure I think the strategy pulled of by the Democrats was one of integrity and the best interest for Bowie County. But then again, if the tables were turned and there wasn’t much for republicans to vote for in our primaries, would we have done the same? Would we have vote for the weaker democrat candidates in the primaries to gain leverage for republican victories in the General?

Haven’t we done it in the past?

Lol @ Tina vs Hill. Tina will try to brag about her HS diploma while Hill has a PhD. I don't know if I'll vote for any of the County Clerk candidates yet, but I think it'll be a runaway for Hill.

Landers is a very strong candidate. Almost everyone I talk to (including democrats) is tired of Prince.

What do you think about the Tax-Assessor race? Apparently there's a libertarian candidate running.

Lay in the weeds and watch, Mr. Brimley, aka anal opening.

Landers is going down hard. Tina will win handlily just as Lacy, Nichols and Bruce did in 2010 because of Obama. a liberterian will not garner 10% of the vote. Go listen to a jeff akin tape and play with yourself.

I do believe this is an accurate assessment of the Democrats strategy. Many that I know did just as DC said. I don't like it and it shows the problem of our Texas elections system, which needs to be fixed. Complete BS if you ask me. But, not to make too light of the problem we have in Texas, I do find it comical that Kathy Hicks couldn't win the republican nomination, even with the democrat push to put her as the weak link in the general.

We definitely have problems here in BC, and I don't see any solutions in the near future.

Oh and btw - your logic skills suck! If Tina will win just because she's a Republican, then Landers will too!

Just the facts RINO!!

Now, what would have really been funny would be Kathy's GED vs. Dr. Hills PhD. Kinda makes your friend Kathy look like the bottom feeder she is, doesn't it David? lol

As I said brim, lay in the weeds and watch. All the voters who crossed over for Landers, and there were substantial numbers of dems who did just for that race (600 votes less than the clerks race), will be voting Prince as well as a number of non primary voters who still remember getting burned in 2010 by Lacy and Natalie and no one wants that crap again. Lay in the weeds and watch,

If people feel "burned" by Natalie, why would they vote for Tina??

Someone is out of touch with reality. Most people don't feel they got burned by Natalie, they feel that Natalie "got burned" by Sterling Lacy and certain members of the Bowie County Patriots. When she exposed Judge Lacy, people like Jeff and Kathy turned on her and expected her to just "look past" the wrongs she discovered him doing.

We all know that the lawsuit was a farce and used to force her out, which is one of the main reasons Kathy lost A LOT of republican votes (people do not forget that quickly), and could not even win with democrat help. Even though she tried to run as Natalie, it didn't work. We are not that dumb. Fortunately, for us, the Bowie County Patriot leadership showed they are more interested in POWER, than doing the right thing, and that is why everyone associated with them will have a mountain to climb to win elections.

Since the 2010 elections, only one Bowie County Patriot has won anything, that this is Mike Landers, with the help of a large turnout of Democrats trying to put the weaker republican candidate in. There have been a couple of others who were "supported by" the Bowie County Patriots, but not actually one of them. Like Josh Davis for example, who has publically said he is not technically a Bowie County Patriot, just supported by and friends with some of them. No different than John Cornyn, who the Bowie County Patriots support, but does that make him one?

People will vote for Tina because she is not associated with the Bowie County Patriots, and because she is not Kathy Hicks. Yet, Dr. Hill has a good reputation in the community as being a very nice, respectfull, intellignet women. People who know pay attention to the clerks office, and saw the good things that Natalie did, want that type of service back, like the online presence, and the open government, but someone who can tone done the fight a little. We like the fight, when it is for us, but we also want the battles to be picked a little more strategically. That is what I think Dr. Hill will give, all the advancements and openness that Natalie gave, with a little more polish. Tina has the expereince, but I don't think she has enough of the likability factor to overcome her lack of education. But, IMO, I think either one of them will do just fine.

As far as the Sherrifs race goes, not much to talk about because Landers will lose big. The democrats, and the RINO's, got exactely the person they wanted to run against Prince. There will not be enough of the Patriot bunch to come close to giveing Landers a chance, because there are a lot of conservatives in Bowie County who are loyal to Prince, and lenght of time in office does not matter to them.
