AP article in todays Denver Post (excerpt):

WASHINGTON Millions of smokers could be priced out of health insurance because of tobacco penalties in President Barack Obama's health care law, according to experts who are just now teasing out the potential impact of a little-noted provision in the massive legislation.

The Affordable Care Act "Obamacare" to some allows health insurers to charge smokers buying individual policies up to 50 percent higher premiums starting next Jan. 1.

For a 55-year-old smoker, the penalty could reach nearly $4,250 a year. A 60-year-old could wind up paying nearly $5,100 on top of premiums.

Younger smokers could be charged lower penalties under rules proposed last fall by the Obama administration. But older smokers could face a heavy hit on their household budgets at a time in life when smoking-related illnesses tend to emerge.

Workers covered on the job would be able to avoid tobacco penalties by joining smoking cessation programs because employer plans operate under different rules. But experts say that option is not guaranteed to smokers trying to purchase coverage individually.

Perhaps you ought to re-read my post. I said "I" sometimes miss a key; said nothing about the keyboard. In the future I'll proof read prior to posting so you don't get a spike in your blood pressure.

smoking is proven to be unhealthy. smoking is proven to greatly increase the need to draw upon health insurance. smoking is avoidable and treatable. if smokers are going to knowingly continue a medically harmful voluntary drug then naturally the insurance company should have some measure of protection from a condition the insured could have avoided.

And you'd misspell more words if you didn't cut and paste so much. Also, watch your tone. I'm a lady, remember.

Has it ever occurred to you that you might be the troll? Takes a troll to know one as Mama used to say.

"In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as a forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking readers into an emotional response or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion."

Man, if you couldn't cut and paste, you'd be in bad shape. What you call trolling, I call freedom of speech. Just because someone disagrees with your stupidity doesn't necessarily make them a troll. You whine on and on about your SECOND amendment being under attack by Obama but you would have no problem in having my FIRST amendment rights taken away. Tom, you're not consistent. You are a hypocrite. You don't want what's best for America. You only care about your selfish wants and desires and their fulfillment and as far as you're concerned, to hell with everybody else.

Tom, we see she is once again being a spelling nazi. Pay her no mind. She won't discuss the issue, on any thread. She is also very ill-mannered and a name caller : just the sort of person incapable of a discussion or debate of any issue. I don't see that you were discussing the 2nd Amendment in this thread, Tom. I also think this Old Valley Girl suffers from a personality disorder, whereby she wants to get even with you for some supposed wrong in the past that she blames you for. I suppose if the Texarkana Downtown Improvement Association were having a meeting, she'd show up, get on the microphone, and proceed to bash you, eh?

It's very rude to talk about someone behind their back. Didn't your mama teach you better?

Do you talk to all ladies in such rude and sarcastic way? I bet your mama is spinning in her grave because I'm sure she taught you better.

It must be tough to be unwanted, alone and bitter. Maybe a few sessions with Dr. Phil would get her on the right path.

Tom, don't bother replying to her. She's socially immature and suffers from a personality disorder. Just exclude her from your thoughts.
