you are right Ive been told that the Stephens last paycheck cleared the bank as did all the outpatient staff they paid. So why didn't he pay the inpatient employees? Follow the bankruptcy hearings you will be amazed He thought he was keeping he outpatient business for himself. Rumor has it that the Stephens milked about $270,000 out of the hospital from Jan-May 2008

that was about the time they had the investors from New York putting money into the hospital. He claims he didn't pay the inpatient employees because the investors didn't put the money into the account. Kimbro violated the terms they had set out, so they held their money. It is Kimbro Stephens' signature on all those hot checks though.

“I’m living under threat,” Stephens said.“I’m getting threatening phone calls from employees and vendors who think I took their money and ran. I didn’t take their money.”

“Some of the things people are alleging are just mean stuff,” Stephens said.“They just want to make me look bad so they can ride in like the knight on a white horse.”

Stephens said he was referring to Dr. James Naples, Pinewood’s owner.

Stephens previously said Living Hope’s financial woes began in 2004 when another inpatient facility was opened in New Boston, Texas, on property owned by Naples. That facility was drawing its startup money from the revenue being generated by the Arkansas-side Living Hope hospital and there wasn’t enough money for both, Stephens said.

Stephens said he sued Naples for breach of contract when he had to close the New Boston facility.

“He’s been mad at me ever since,” Stephens said.

In court, Kimbro Stephens said his annual salary at the beginning of 2008 was roughly $270,000. The money wasn’t being paid to Kimbro Stephens directly, however. Instead, checks to “Stephens Incorporated” were being issued.

Kimbro Stephens said Alice Stephens actually makes $95,000 annually.

I heard that the Stephens didn't cash their last paychecks so that more employees could be paid.

Also, wasn't one of the purposes of Thursday's hearings was to get the employees paid? He didn't have to do that. I would say he's doing his best to do the right thing for the employees.

He should pay the employees out of his own pocket, but I don't think that is going to happen.:(

Are the 50 or so who were hired by Vista working?

Well, I can tell you first hand that Mr. Kimbro Stephens has kept my insurance check that I sent to Cobra. Cobra sent the check to Living Hope in Texarkana and Mr. Stephens was supposed to send the check on to Mercy Health to cover my insurance after I resigned from employment with one of his outpatient clinics. I am not the only person in this situation. Mr. Kimbro is an attorney and knows what moves to make to "stall" the inevitable and keep everything in limbo. Cobra tells me that, until Mr. Stephens tells them he no longer has a clinic with employees in need of insurance, they cannot act on anything. Well, I'm not sure who is more dishonest, Mr. Stephens or the insurance company. One thing I know for sure is that, me and my husband are in our mid 50s in dire need of prescription medications and other medical care. My husband had a heart attack in December of this last year and we are having to pay out of pocket for medications and other medical care until this mess gets cleared up. Shame on you, Mr. Stephens. I have contacted a couple of Mr. Stephen's close friends who are keeping in touch with him to try to locate him. They say they don't know how I can get in touch with him. Birds of a feather..........Mr. Stephens, I am praying that God will grant you the humility to realize that you're arrogance has contributed to people's suffering. Is this really the way you want all the years of work you put into your mental health clinics to be remembered?

I didn't know Stephens was an attorney or that he had another clinic besides Living Hope! But I found he has one in Nashville, Ar, if the online information is up to date.

Thanks for posting, In Limbo. I hope things turn around for you and all the employees Stephens left high and dry in Texarkana soon.

IN LIMBO...... I don't think it is Mr. Stephen's arrogance that has hurt people, I think it is more his ignorance and trusting the wrong people. I too have been hurt by this whole situation and have been very close to the Stephens. I can tell you that Kimbro Stephens is not a villien as he has been portrayed. He is a man who has made some bad business moves and was too willing to believe others.
Your post is not dripping with venom like many others, who speak out of their own ignorance I might add. Please do pray for them, they need those prayers right now. The Stephens family invested almost everything they had into Living Hope, it was not just a business for them.
Many people's lives were changed because of Living Hope. Many people were born again because of the vision that the Stephens family had (Mr. Stephens mother started the first Living Hope in Little Rock). Yes, it is all sad and his reputation is in the gutter, but there was also much good that came from the ten years they were in Texarkana.
It is very easy to sit on the side line and judge. I did not get my check either. I am hurt, my family is hurt and I don't have health insurance right now.
The Stephens don't have a home in Mexico or Africa. They built an orphanage in Africa.

Very Sad, thank you for reminding me that it is easy to judge others. This is so true. I guess I am from the old school, though, because I believe Mr. Kimbro's "ignorance or bad business moves" is not the issue. Ignorance and bad business moves are a part of our human condition. I don't know the Stephens like you do. I worked in one of his outpatient clinics for over 4 years before he ever entered our building. He was out of touch, to say the least, with people who were helping him to make a lot of money. He continues to be out of touch and unavailable as I try to contact him to track down my insurance check. You sound like a loyal friend to the Stephens. They are fortunate to have people who believe in them. We all need that. Yes, I will continue to pray more and judge less. My prayer will be that you, and others who are in our situation, find relief soon.
God Bless You : > )

I have done business with Mr. Stephens over the past four years and know that they were having money problems.. It is very expensive to run a business and I'm glad there is people out there like them that will take chances.. And yes, sometime those chances don't work out.. It is painful for the people involved and for the people who he owes money to.. I would encourage everyone to pray for the Stephens and for all the people who lost their jobs.. Maybe some good will come from this. I can assure you if it wasn't for the Stephens then Living Hope would have been closed years ago, so look at all the good it has done over the years.

I would encourage the Stephens to make thier employees paychecks good, and I pray that he does that, in addition to paying them for the time they worked and didn't get a check.
