I really don't believe WalMart installs the self checkouts any longer. I believe they were only in some for a test run. Besides, seems like it would be a really good way to loose money when it would be all too easy not to scan an item
..........but regardless, as long as they let the lines get long and as inefficient the personnel is I think it is great to have an option!!!

I am not doing the cashier's job for Walmart. That makes me the one who puts it in the cashier's back. Whats next Walmart? Do you want me to stock your shelves for you as well? How about go out and get the carts for you?

Did anyone make this claim when gas stations started having us pump our own gas?

if the guy at the top wasn't making 70k to 90k in allowances, stock options and very vague performance bonuses skimming out of the cookie jar, that would save a lot of money as well.

I am reminded of that Twilight Zone episode where the factory manager keeps replacing workers with automated machines to lower labor cost, until at the very end his own job is lost for a Robby The Robot manager.

Albertson's on 7th street took the self check out lanes out. I liked them. There are sometimes I don't even want to talk to a cashier - just get in, get my chit and get out! But they took them out 'cause they were getting ripped off to badly. I guess they didn't have enough people to man the security camera's to be able to catch the crooks.

This topic is certainly post-worthy. Self checkout kiosks will be the end of America!!!
There are still full service gas stations around. If the OP pumps their own gas, he/she is a hyprocrite.
And where is the a gas station in this area where you don't have to post your own gas?

there will always be an inherent conflict between the need for labor management versus the need for a healthy amount of discretionary employment to keep the economy running smoothly. these are the same people that tell others to get a job. well... how are they going to do so if you cut the jobs. we should be more concerned with Walmart outsourcing labor to Communist China. I'm sure China appreciates all the training in manufacturing, warehousing, shipping and transportation. we should have let that red bear remain asleep. the poor man may buy made in china, but lets be clear on the issue, the poor man will buy whatever you set in front of him, its the rich man that purposely went to China to reduce labor cost because they know there are less worker rights over there. Minimum Wage... is your employer telling you that if he/she could pay you any less legally, then they would.

I am sure they hate you being behind them more. Give all the elderly and working poor free food and they can purchase it with my tax dollars. You IDIOT!!!
You don't even make sense. Are you high on drugs? Why do you buy drugs made in Colombia? Why not buy drugs made in the USA?

Have any of you watched Shark Tank?....they immediately speak of out sourcing to other countries all the time. That is the first thing they bring up to bring down the cost of the product. I think it's just the way businesses do business.

I'm kind of curious what would happen if there was no minimum wage?

More people would be employed, some at low wages. More liberals would be unhappy. No employer in a free market would pay a potential employee MORE than the employee is willing to work for. Just as Physics has laws, so does Economics, and many politicians (and readers in these forums) don't grasp basic laws of Economics.
