Anyone else appaled the the article about his death was in the Sports section of the Gazzette? Wrestling is not a sport and it has no place in the sports section of the newspaper!

the physical risk that wrestling entertainers put themselves through is very real. they certainly deserve to have a generous health care coverage package for that line of work. wrestling is entertainment as with any competitive sport. of course it lacks a comprehensible scoring system. It lacks referee credibility. it is highly probable defined by predetermined results. but it is an entertaining sport, there is an advertised sense of competition.

if you ever watched wrestling in the WWE Attitude Era of the late 1990's and early 2000's, then you would know that Chris Benoit and Kurt Angle would have the occasional realistic sporting Olympic wrestling matches. they would compete by legitimate Olympic rules of points and submissions. for its time it was something of a novelty tribute to the official sport and to Kurt Angle's actual Olympic career background.

Chris Benoit has become one of those names that doesn’t get mentioned because of this tragic downward spiral into a violent family self-destruction. the good Chris Benoit was entertaining and respected by the audience as a strong contender and entertainer. the downward spiral Chris Benoit toward the end was unfortunate.

I don't know why someone would dredge up a 5 year old thread but ok. In prowrestling, the outcomes are absolutely predetermined. Even those "Olympic" style matches, while exhibiting great technical skill that defined those two great wrestlers, the outcomes we're not shall we say "legitimate". None the less it is entertaining to some folks, but I do find mainstream news organizations covering wrestling events in general laughable.
