In reading the paid advertisement published in the September 14th issue of the Texarkana Gazette, I noticed that Dr. Sterling Lacy doesn't say what “Bible College” he attended in Iowa, just that he was “...wrapping up a masters degree...”(did he receive it?). Then he talks about “...the opportunity arose for me to enroll for a masters degree in the counselor education department at Emporia (Kansas) State University's Graduate School...”. Did he ever enroll? Did he graduate?

Dr. Lacy's most prestigious degree: a Ph.D. Came from Toledo Bible Seminary “...the forerunner of Trinity Bible Seminary of Newburg [sic], Indiana. Strange that he doesn't know how to spell the name of the town where he attended college – it is “Newburgh”. Here's an article from Christianity Today, May 29, 1981, titled "Short-cut Graduate Degrees Shortchange Everybody." A few quotes:

"One school that advertises frequently and presents itself to the unknowing student as being more than it actually is, is Toledo Bible College and Seminary in Tennyson, Indiana."

"[Founder John D.] Brooke for all practical purposes...awarded himself the Th.D. from Toledo, since he received it not long after he started the school...in the late sixties. He operated it there until 1978 when, for all practical purposes, he was forced out of the state by the Ohio Board of Regents."

The article goes on to discuss, in detail, the two accreditations claimed, one from the later-discredited International Accrediting Commission, and the other "even flimsier" from the American Association of Specialized Colleges run by "Gordon DaCosta...one of the more colorful flimflammers in the annals of phony degrees. In the 1960s, DaCosta created a degree mill in Gas City, Indiana, called Northern Indiana University."

The article quotes former Toledo faculty on being alarmed when "students were admitted who could barely read," and "dumbfounded to learn at graduation that some of these students were awarded doctorates."

Brook "plans to change the name of the school to Trinity Bible College and Trinity Theological Seminary ."

John D. Brooke did change the name of the school to “ Trinity Bible College and Trinity Theological Seminary”.

A quick check with the Internet Archive Wayback Machine ( http://web.archive.org ) shows that the school established a web site in 1998, and started hawking it's degrees on line. The original site had four pages. The size of the site steadily grew to 105 pages in 2005, when they claimed “accreditation” with schools in Liverpool and Canterbury offering “accelerated” degree programs. After getting some bad press – this time on the Internet – they started revising their website and the number of pages diminished to forty-eight in 2008. In 2009, they placed code on the web site that prohibited the archiving of their pages, thus effectively concealing any changes to the archive.

Trinity Bible College and Trinity Theological Seminary is located at: 4233 Medwel Dr.,,
Newburgh, Indiana 47630. It is a one-story, metal building on a lot that it is on a 102 x 230 ft lot according to tax records in Newburgh, Indiana. It's new name is Trinity College of the Bible Theological Seminary.

There's no question about Lacy being smart. It's all about honesty and integrity.

It isn't honest to claim to hold a degree when one does not, in fact, hold such a degree. Especially when one touts the degree to imply "credentials" to practice a profession before the public.

A diploma mill degree is worthless. A degree from an unaccredited school is worthless. Anyone who gets such a degree and claims to be a "Dr." or whatever is not an honest person.

I do not know where Lacy got his degrees so I make no accusations. But I do think his supporters should find out for sure. If his degrees are genuine, then they can tell everyone else to shut up. If not, then they have some thinking to do.

It's nice to know that I can follow the latest local news while I sit and watch the waves crash in. And, it looks like my friend at the library is busy this morning. It is politics as usual back home. I think that I'll just mail my ballot in.
I will also wait for Sterling Lacy's response to this since you can't believe everything that is posted on the Internet. My guess is that he will not respond.

I agree that Lacy will not respond. He will keep himself above the fray, but will have his attack dogs, Jeff and BCW I AND II do the job.

OK, may as well jump in the fray here. The good doctor's homepage:
http://sterlinglacy.com/bio.php
states that he was President of Christian Heritage College. Doesn't say when, where, or which one. Was it the one in San Diego? They say no. How about the one in Australia? Bloody hell no, mate.
Is there one in Arkansas? Maybe, but I can't find it. Could be some place that no longer exists, I hope.
I have to say this: I don't know Dr. Lacy. From what I know of him, he sounds like a good man. I hope this will all be cleared up, and soon.
NOTE TO ANYBODY THAT WANTS TO BE A LEADER of this new Tea Party and the American Conservative takeback of our country: If you have something to hide, do NOT become a candiadate or leader, especially of any controversial movement. You WILL be the subject of much investigation, agitation, aggravation, expectoration, slanderization, and regurgitation ad nauseum.

CHRISTIAN HERITAGE COLLEGE

OK, the Arkansas Secretary of State shows that there is a CHRISTIAN HERITAGE COLLEGE, INC. The address is 3603 JEFFERSON,TEXARKANA, AR. That is the address of Gaither's Appliance Heating & AC. The public records show that TERRY GAITHER is the registered agent and that there were no officers listed.

Kind of looks like Sterling Lacy used to write resumes for people applying for jobs at RRAD....

I think that unless somebody lays some good factual info out here (and soon) that explains how and when and at which schools (or diploma mills) the good Doctor (or non-doctor) earned his sheepskins (or worthless wallpaper), then Dr. Lacy will soon be asked this question point blank by some disgruntled supporters and/or some unsympathetic reporters or both.
If what Talker has posted is true, this story may already be taking an ugly turn before it has officially even become a story.
Please say it ain't so, Joe. Or Doctor.
Honestly, I don't know of anyone who has one bad thing to say about this man. I hope by this time tomorrow we'll all be wiping egg from our faces and pulling our feet out of our mouths to take another bite of crow pie.
There are enough people on the outside, in both established parties, that would like to demonize and destroy this American Patriot movement even before the upcoming elections. Let us pray that it doesn't implode. Don't hand them dynamite and a fuse and then offer them matches too.

I'm a little slow - got it - I was supposed to go back and read th e bio page again!

"...Formed a corporation to publish and market his own best-selling book VALLEY OF DECISION: A Christian Primer to the Political arena. Over one quarter of a million books were sold world- wide..."

He did - formed DAYSPRING PRODUCTIONS, INC. December 14, 1987.
On February 11, 2000, the Texas Secretary of State terminated the corporation's charter in document number 5836679 "Tax Forfeiture". No return is on file.

Let's see 250,000 times the the current Amazon.com price of $1.25 (we can only assume that when the book was "hot" that it sold for more)... On the other hand, the Amazon Bestsellers Rank is #2,213,946 - well, anyway back to the calculations - at a $2.00 average price, then he should have reported a half a million to the State of Texas. Perhaps he should file that return and attach a check to it?

I'm going to wrap this up and wait for a public appearance by Sterling Lacy.

The State of Michigan has a list of schools that are not recognized:

"...This is a partial listing of colleges and universities from which degrees will not be accepted by the Michigan Civil Service Commission to satisfy educational requirements indicated on job specifications..."

Trinity College of the Bible and Theological Seminary - Indiana is on the list. So Sterling Lacy will never be able to hold a government job in Michigan - not that he would ever apply.

Moving on to Texas...

"Fraudulent or substandard degree" means a degree conferred in Texas in violation of the Texas Education Code; conferred in another state in violation of that state's laws; conferred in another state by an institution that was not accredited by an accreditor recognized by the Coordinating Board and that has not been approved by the Coordinating Board for its degrees to be used in Texas; or conferred outside the United States by an institution that the Coordinating Board determines is not the equivalent of an accredited or authorized degree.(Texas Educational Code, Chapter 61, Section 61.302)

The Texas Penal Code (Section 32.52) prohibits the use of fraudulent or substandard degrees "in a written or oral advertisement or other promotion of a business; or with the intent to: obtain employment; obtain a license or certificate to practice a trade, profession, or occupation; obtain a promotion, a compensation or other benefit, or an increase in compensation or other benefit, in employment or in the practice of a trade, profession, or occupation; obtain admission to an educational program in this state; or gain a position in government with authority over another person, regardless of whether the actor receives compensation for the position." Violation of this law is a Class B misdemeanor.

Well, if the diploma fits...

As always, should you or any of your diploma sources be caught or exposed, the Secretary will disavow any knowledge of your actions. Good luck, Sterling. This post will self-destruct in five seconds.

WOW Talker, you make Sherlock Holmes look like a novice. Want a cookie?

I am waiting until this makes front page news. How does it feel to have all that time and research wasted, since it reached such a large mass of voters?

Guess this is why Dr. Lacy refuses to testify on behalf of any of his clients. Doesn't want his credentials examined.
