the only bad thing about doing what you say is that now if in an emergency you need a vet they will end up vacinating your dog, also if your dog does end up biting someone one and they report it they can put it down to see if it had rabies and also the person the dog bite can sue you and own everything. its not that we dont want them to be vaccinated but at least if they have titer after shots are good longer then what the money hungry vets are saying

I had a six month old pit bull puppy who had been suffering from malnutrition. The vet gave an antibiotic for bacterial overgrowth and the dog doubled his weight. Two weeks later the vet gave my dog the rabies vaccine. Ten days later the dog was dead from encephilitis which I believe was caused by the rabies vaccine.
The vet should have made certain the dog was 100 percent healthy before giving this vaccine. It was a horrible way for my puppy to die and I just wish I would have known that the rabies vaccine should not be given to an animal that has had some health issues recently. The assistant had the rabies shot in my dog before I was even asked about it. I have a new puppy now and I WILL NOT VACCINATE AGAINST RABIES AND DON'T CARE IF IT IS STATE LAW. No animal should have to suffer because a vet wants to make a few extra dollars with a vaccine. PLEASE DO NOT VACCINATE YOUR PET WITH THE RABIES VACCINE IF THEY HAVE BEEN ILL. YOU MAY JUST LOSE YOUR BEST FRIEND.

this is the problem the vet wants the money more then wondering about the dog, unfortunetly when louie was givin his rabies vaccine he was healthy on the outside which he passed his physical and he was sick on the inside infact i had Dr.R.Kabbler look at louies records and she told me he had a liver problem and the vet thought he had hge how do you like that didnt even know my dog had this problem and he was my vet for 12 years this lady reads my dogs records in a weeekend and tells me whats wrong with him. i am gonna see her she is a holistic vet and doesnt believe in giving the dogs all this garbage

Please don't operate from fear. You don't have all the facts. This is not an isolated occurrence. There's a whole website dedicated to the truth about the rabies vaccine. Go to www.Truth4Dogs.org to learn more.

In Massachusetts, the rabies vaccine is required every 3 years, not every year as stated in the story. For older dogs, I believe it is possible to apply for a waiver. Taking blood titers prior to deciding whether to give a vaccination is prudent, though more costly than the vaccinations!
When we have a concern about vaccinations with an older dog, we will leave the dog at the vet's for the day for observation in case of a reaction. Also, we space out the vaccinations -Rabies then if needed wait two weeks for the next vaccination.
NH is every three years. Massachusettes is still annual.

Leash Law. No dog should be running loose, anywhere except your yard or a designated dog park. I never allow my dog off the leash in the State Forrest. And it is more out of fear from the paint ballers and the motrized vehicles (that are not supposed to be there in the first place) than anything else.

Hello,

I read your story about Bruzer, how sad! I just experienced a very similar situation with my border collie, Rocky. At first he was detected to have anaplasmosis, then it was Rocky Mt. Spotted fever, then they thought Blasto. He was put on 4 different types of antibiotics and a low dose of prednisone as the vet was not sure of what Rocky had. He knew it was an auto-immune disease, but not sure what initially caused it. Rocky had extremely high temperatures with one day being at 106.5 and bleeding out his nose. During the course of Rocky's sickness, he had IV fluids twice. To this day he is STILL on prednisone until hhis lungs clear up. He did have bad kidney count numbers and protein in his urine as well as lungs that were filling up with fluid. His last round of blood tests came back with normal counts, except for his liver counts which is attributed to him being on prednisone still. However we hope to get better or clear lungs during his next round of X-rays.

After reading numerous articles about dogs getting sick after vaccines, specifically 7-10 days after.....Now I wonder if Rocky became sick from his vaccinations as it all transpired 10 days after he received his vaccinations???????

He is recovering and improving each day, but still is not back to normal. He is a 2 year old border collie and usually is full of energy and loves life.

My husband and I love him very much and want only the best for him! I really am considering if he'll get another shot, that is for sure.

You are in my thoughts and I hope each day will get better! Losing a good buddy like Bruzer is tough! Take care....

From your Wisconsin Friend,
Rocky's Mom

i thought the same thing, but if anything happens to your pet god forbid, no vet or pet store or handler or shelter or groomer or trainer..NOBODY, will touch your pet without proof of a current rabies shot. i had to bring my cat in for rabies shot,(who is 13 years old, never been outside nd has never had vacs since he was a kitten)just so he could have hair mats removed by th pet shop. no one will know if your inside cat has vacs but if i were you i would consider the fact that he may need care someday and he will have to have one.

when and if your cat needs vet care..you will have to have a current rabies shot before anyone will handle him.

Remember this folks - some people died after receiving the Salk Polio Vaccine. Think we should ban it? Some people die after receiving the flu vaccine. Think we should ban it? Sure, vaccines are not 100 percent safe and not 100 percent effective. But what's the alternative?
The alternative should be for every pet owner to make the decision on their own AFTER thorough warnings and education from their vet about the possible dangers. That is the problem here. We are required to vaccinate our dogs routinely and given know honest information about the dangers. My sweet 2 year old pug , Max contracted Immune mediated Hemolyctic Anemia immediately after a rabies vaccination. Google this disease and you will see the mortality rate of this disease is 50-80%!!! This disease cause the immune system to attack itself destroying all its red blood cells. If only a few hours had passed before I noticed his urine was dark blood and rushed him to the vet, he would have died! Two days of hospitalization and a blood transfusion later, he was released to go home on about 8 different medications! 2 weeks later he developed Vasculitus, and lesions began to pop up on his body where his blood circulation was very poor and his skin was dying. For the last 2 months after his vaccination, poor Max who use to be so energetic and full of life, still sulks all day, in pain and heavily medicated. It has been a very heart breaking and emotional time for our family. I understand your arguement that rabies vaccinations are important, I thought so 2 and half months ago too. However, I was naive to the dangers and the side effects as it was never prewarned to me. I will never get the rabies vaccination for either of my 2 dogs again.

Think about it you simpletons! How many animals get immunized? THAOUSANDS!! And a handful of stories is supposed to mean something? Does anyone here even understand statistics?
Heart wrenching anecdotes are MEANINGLESS in the face of OVERWHELMING evidence that rabies vaccines for domestic pets has a tremendous public health benefit. Screw the pets, I don't want kids to get rabies because they played with the neighbors dog.
And don't give me this "my pet NEVER goes outside" crap. That's like saying it's okay to keep a loaded gun in your nightstand because your children never look there.

Guys, we lost a great lab and mourned him for a healthy period of time, his name was Chief and we only had him 8 years. We eventually got our new lab we named Champ, and of course as responsible pet owners we arranged for his shots.
At 7 months he quickly became very sick and lame. We took him to the vet and proceeded to see him daily on Champ's progress. All along, the vet said "wow, this seems like Rabies, but of course Champ's been vacinated."
Then, I rec'd an emergency call from the vet to alert me that in a full review of Champ's file they discovered he wasn't vacinated for rabies, and to bring him in immediately. He'd been exibiting the symptoms all along, while being coddled closely by our family and those who love us and him most.
We had no choice but to put him down so the professionals could find the truth, more children than just mine were exposed.
Here we sit, 5 days later, with no answer. We lived with this dog and loved him dearly, so what's spit among friends? In other words, while he was sick and exhibiting signs of rabies, we were loving him up and hoping he'd get better. Very much exposed to his saliva... I've been genuinely worried and at points nearly hysterical with worry during this time and am now medicated. All of this could have been avoided had our beloved Champ had his Rabies Shots.
My son and his young friends may be at risk, but we continue to wait for the CDC to provide ANY answers.
The heartache of waiting to know if your beloved pet could have jeopardized your children, their friends, your spouse, family members etc. is an absolute nightmare. What if it's too late for one of them and the virus has already taken hold? The CDC refuses to release the vaccination to anyone of us until their own tests on the dog are done. Despite the CDC official website claim of answers on Rabies tests in hours, this has been going on for five days. Coincidentally, the CDC website discusses shortages of the vaccine for humans, good luck getting this if you're not well connected. I fought like hell for my family to get the shots proactively and lost.
Get your pets the Rabies Vaccination, the chances of you regretting it are so slim as compared to the risk you agree to take on by not getting it.

I agree. I have taken a stand to NEVER vaccinate my dogs for any reason. There is a book called "The Sanctity of Human Blood" which can be ordered at www.thedoctorwithin.com Dr. Tim O'Shea writes the clearest, most concise book about why ANY vaccine does not offer immunity (true immunity comes from exposure to the organic disease and your body creates true antibodies to be immune. Vaccination is not IMMUNIZATION.) I have come to fear the organic disease much less than than the toxic, carcinogenic inorganic pharmaceutical. Follow the money. Where there is money to be made, people lose their humanity. Wake up people and understand that our doctors and vets are (for the most part) a product of the conventional medical system, which is owned by the deep pocketed pharmaceutical industry. I will go to jail before subjecting my pets or kids (if I had any!) to vaccines, especially "mandatory" vaccines. It is unconstitutional for the state to cause harm to our family and animals.
Do your research. If you don't, don't complain when your pet or kid reacts adversely or maybe even dies from the toxic concoction that we are brainwashed to believe is good for us. WAKE UP and understand that despite our supposed medical superiority, the USA has fallen to the 36th position of healthy countries in the world. Too much intervention. Let the kid and animal get their diseases and sicknesses, nurse them through it, feed them wholesome raw and organic food, keep their environment as toxin free as possible, with lots of fresh air, sunshine and exercise.

Nature (God) has always been smarter than any invention man can conjure up. Do you research on vaccines. You will be amazed at the lack of accurate record keeping and unsophisticated, unproven experiments have been passed off as scientific proof that vaccines are effective. The media controls the information, so you need to sift through the advertising that is paid for, including "research" that is paid for by the pharmaceutical industry.

Keep it simple. Eat simply, live simply, and eradicate toxins to live a healthy and happy and long life.

we took my yorkie age 10 and my cocker spaniel age 3 to get the anual shot's and within 10 min. my cocker had purged from both ends and was in great distress, gums and tongue had turned very pale gray and he could not breathe. my husband rushed him back to the vets 5 min. away and they gave him a steroid and benedryl shot, saying he was in anaphylactic shock.. the breathing clamed down and the pink color returned to his gums and tongue. I was never warned that this could happen and I had never seen anything like this before.. I will search for alternatives.. from a holistic vet.
