Every time I see one of those Verizon kiosks at a mall I ask when Fios is coming to Chelmsford. I get a different answer every time.. "This fall" was the first one I got.. that was more than 2 years ago. Just last week they tried to sell me DSL and Direct TV... Not Interested.. I just would love to know what the hold up on Fios is. I'm sure it is political at this point. Ridiculous.

All of the towns are negotiating the rates prior to letting Verizon bid on contracts . They all want free cable to schools reduced rates for seniors and free cable in town buildings . Now thats the hold-up.

It's dis appointing to hear advertisements on the radio for FIOS, but yet it's not available. Why is Verizon playing a cruel game? Why have it in some areas, but not all areas that customers have Verizon service, whether it be phone service, wireless service, or broadband service?

Every town has to vote in to allow a company to provide service, and i heard it will take a couple of years for Verizon Fios to service the chelmsford area. In response to the telephone issue in S. Chelmsford, i havent had any issues when i had verizon phone service and my parents are thinking of going back after the 2008 ice storm.

The 2008 ice storm was not the source service difficulties. It was out about 6 weeks total during the summer and fall of '08 for not announced reason. There was always a truck at the intersection of Park and Proctor throughout that time period.

Everything was out during the ice storm. I won't blame Verizon for that.

Those Verizon truck live at the boxes at Park and Proctor. What are they doing there? Is the service that bad - still? Once FiOS gets traction, we'll have some real upgrades to Comcast, too. Hopefully the prices will drop (or at least stabilize).

When Verizon comes to Chelmsford, including TV (not Dirct TV), they will offer new start up packages just like Coomcast did, when the package expires then go to Comcast to get there packages (only applies to NEW CUSTOMERS, must not have had Comcast the prior 6 months). When that expires then go back to Verizon and so forth. That will be the only way you will be able to keep your price down for TV/Internet/Phone services. Start thinking out of the box for solutions to cost.

It's like those ads for Sonic and Golden Corral, they advertise on stations around here but there aren't any within a zillion miles! Mmmmmm...Golden Corral.
Hey hey hey friend, Sonic is here in this state! It's in peabody on Rt 1. Go check it out, it's actually pretty cool! I think there's a golden corral somewhere, hard to find it right now. What I really want is a white castle burger joint.

Just to chime in, Comcast does have lower prices compared to Verizon and that is just at regular rate. Verizon's fios has a bill that is on average 40% more than comcast. So beware, you sign a deal for 2 years, the first year is 89.99 before taxes and box charges and fees and activation charges, and then after the first year for the second year of your signed contract, the price increases to god knows what, and after your 2 years of wallet bulimia your wallet is going to die of malnutrition. Not to mention if you want tech support, they are limited in the call center hours, and you'd have to pay for a tech support package which is like asking geeksquad to find their heads because they can't tell the difference between a hard drive and a cd rom drive, don't get me started with them. Verizon fios is expensive, comcast I think is pretty fair, they provide easy on demand and great internet along with a nice ld and local phone option. I didn't sign with verizon because all I could get was a dish, I hate those things, still have one from DishNetwork on my house that thing is ugly and no such thing as "on demand" with dish you have to use Dialup to get a movie and pay about 3 dollars more than comcast for a movie.

I also told Comcast, that I would cancel if they wouldn't extend the package price, they didn't care. I agree the Verizon phone service in south chelmsford sucks, had to cancel it. When we got heavy rain, the phone went dead, before all the static.
I wager they get dozens calling daily to say they are cancelling but only a small number actually do. Basically, they call your bluff because they know you have no choice, or you'll be back.
Neither Comcast or Fios

If you renew with Comcast before your deal is up, you've got a much better chance on maintaining or improving your original deal (because you have time to make another decision). Waiting until the deal is done puts you in the position Bluff describes.

Anyway, there's a new Fios pod bolted to the telephone pole at the corner of my property. Soon, there'll be no bluffing required. BTW, Fios on-demand is easy, too. I've seen it a friend's house, it's nice. Pick what's right for you.

Not sure why JJ's guaranteed 2-year price changed after one year, but that hasn't happened to my friends with Fios. And Comcast's prices don't include taxes and box rentals, either. Anyone should ask what the extra costs are. Pay for a tech support tackage? Only if you're suffering from an ID 10 T error.

Comcast Triple Play promo:
$99/month, 80+ channels, 6Mbps internet.
Nationwide calling.
12 month contract then goes to $129.99.
Taxes and fees extra.

FIOS Triple Plat Promo:
$89.99/month, 220+ channels, 15 Mbps internet.
Nationwide calling.
24 month contract then goes to $109.99

When I switched from Comcast to FIOS I got a router so if you have other computers at home you just need to install an inexpensive wireless card and it's online for no extra charge.

The only time I use Comcast is when my contract with FIOS is expiring, I tell them I'll switch to Comcast if I can't get the current promo.

Not true. See my other post. I have seen Comcast ads saying how much more FIOS is but they're false. I've had FIOS for 3 years now and I have no complaints on service or quality. I always think these services are too expensive but FIOS gives you more for less money than Comcast. It's not even close.

Don't forget, Comcast has DATA Caps now... go over 250GB (up and down combined) in a month and you can be shut off for 1 YEAR. No Appeal... So if you do carbonite back ups, NetFlix or Video Streaming, you can be in trouble. Fios has no caps. 250GB may seem like a lot, but if you have a heavy gamer or any kind of Media Streaming, 8GB up/down per day is easy to exceed

Verizon is much more expensive if you have multiple tv's in your house. Comcast has free routers with no monthly fee too.
I prefer comcast because they are not union like verison is.
