I cannot hardly believe what goes on there. I have a loved one at ISU that has changed so much since being there. I thought college was preparing you for a future, but all I've heard about is Soroties, Fraternitys, Partying, drinking, fighting and I guess it is perfectly acceptable to have the opposite sex stay all night in the dorms, because they are all "adults". So this is college??

There is a lot that goes on there I was a student and you would bot believe the things I seen like people high up have a maintenance hang tag and they make so much money but park in maintenance spots. And how many vice presidents do we need in one department. Glad I don't waste my money on going there anymore.

Getting a higher education has morphed from a serious attempt to better oneself into an almost continuous 4 year party. I'll bet at the turn of the century partying and goofing off would have resulted in being expelled. But back then it wasn't that easy to get accepted, only serious students need apply. Seems like the easier it is to get into college the less the current enrollees appreciate it.

It's getting better... The President has been making many moves to cut much of the fat responsible for the things you bring to light in this thread. He's already made about 100 or so cuts back a few months ago and rumor has it more are coming geared toward the more expendable amongst the faculty.
New rules have been getting considered to insure continued education through things ranging from specific extracurricular activities to more clubs and student organizations geared toward their classes. Unfortunately, some of the graduate assistant jobs have been seeing some cuts, but with that have come more funds to devote to things the students will be able to take advantage of like said programs and so forth.
I know I probably sounds like Sycamore Sam himself or some shit, but really, things are getting better. Everything with the economy though has really put it in some dire straights...
Something to remember is that ISU has a good undergraduate and graduate academia base as long as one tries to get something out of it. I'm not going to act like it's perfect there... God knows it's not. I've been there since, well, a long time and it does have some serious flaws. But if you get to know your instructors and keep your fucking nose clean, you'll get something out of it all. Just don't act like a dumb-ass and blow your classes off and come back later bitching and complaining that the school sucks because 80% of the losers that attend that school do that shit.

Yea but what about all the people who work in a lead position and have several people under them doing there job when is he going to cut those jobs. Those are your three digit figures who do nothing. That's what my collage money goes to

The 1st thing they need 2 do is revamp the security/police dept @ ISU. They could cut @ least $500,000 per/yr by getting rid of the "So called chief of police" $70,000 a yr salary & asst chiefs,$55,000 a yr salary. They sit on thrie a$s doing nothing but babysitting a bunch of rag tag security guards who have no clue what they r doing. They send these losers 2 the police academy spending $4000,00 per officer, police vehicles @$18,000 each, uniforms, weapons, training & all they do are reports on candy or books being stolen from 1 student by another. I say save all that senseless money, get a contract with the THPD & have them patrol the grounds & have off duty officers patrol the dorms or take all the calls. When is the last time u've heard of a rape or murder @ ISU? It's not because of the ISUPD j if there ever was a homicide, God forbid, the THPD would do the investigation. ISUPD is nothing but a waste of money & they are ill prepared to handle serious situations. ISU could save an additional $200,000 per/yr on overtime alone for all the sports events. Something 2 think about!

Personal responsibility, common sense and maturity must be encouraged in our young citizens. And it should be practiced long before they begin college. If each person behaves in a responsible way instead of believing he/she is entitled to having everything his/her way then the small issues are managed and the bigger issues aren't compounded. That in turn lessens the burdens of those who are now trying to maintain order. Point: recent disasters in Japan. No looting or rioting during the time of crisis. We are in a period of time where more individuals are acquiring a higher education than ever before yet we choose to exhibit less personal responsibility.

The reason there was no looting in Japan was due to the fact the Blacks (African American Thugs) do not live in Japan. Not all blacks, just probably a little over 70% of them are out of control!!!

Whatever the nationality or race those people chose to be responsible for their actions. I've never been to Japan so I couldn't say what ethnicities live there. They showed self respect and dignity by their behavior.

Like cockroaches they come out of the wood work @ night but unlike cockroaches they do it with a camera in their face, They just don't give a sh#t.

There's a guy who is a computer science professor at ISU who seems to spend all his time posting anti-Christian messages on Usenet newsgroups. Obviously he doesn't need to actually work!

Many leaders at ISU just need to be ousted. We all realize it and maybe with some luck, it might happen one day. This goes without saying that many leaders at ISU are good leaders, too. So with all things being equal, hopefully some of these things we've been posting about will get better in time. In the end, though, I see the things you guys speak of on here everyday. I wish I had something positive to say about it all. I really do. I love ISU and each day, I keep hoping and praying things will change over there. The 6-figured people who do nothing should truly be ashamed of themselves, but in the end, I know they probably aren't... It's a shame. I know where you guys are coming from.

Yep and from what I seen as a student there a lot of those 6 digit jobs were created for certain people.

Not all departments allow the type of behavior you describe. Sure, many underclassmen are under the impression college should be one giant 4-year party. Most of those students get weeded out or even removed. I attended ISU and earned two undergraduate degrees simultaneously. I was also raped in my own residence hall. I never pressed charges because I was afraid no one would ever believe me and I was also made aware the person that did this to me came from an extremely wealthy family. I ended up moving off campus within days of the incident. Even though I do like to gripe a lot about ISU police, they treated me extremely well during this time. They urged me to press charges and were extremely concerned about my well being. There are some good people on that department. Anyway, as your loved one progresses through their program, they will be expected to drop the partying. Many departments have unwritten rules about the things they do not tolerate with varying degrees of strictness. They expect all education, music, criminology, and nursing students to be extremely upstanding citizens by the time the are seniors.

Alum 2008, I am truly sorry for what you experienced. It is shameful that a victim has little recourse in these circumstances.
