New Trash Containers

It is really sad that many people don't have a clue how to use the new blue trash containers .

If you can't get all the trash in the containers , get another container . Don't stack it so high the wind blows it down to the other homes . On the end of my block there are three homes that have trash everywhere .

It is no wonder that this town looks like crap .

People "have a clue" how to use the trash containers, but they just choose NOT to. If you read the editorial section of the Tribune Star, it is loaded with people complaining/whining about how inconvenient the blue containers are to maneuver. Can you imagine if they had more than one trash container to deal with?

The streets are dirty, the alleys are filthy. People don't rake their yards, so why would they pick up the trash that escapes their trash containers?

A few years ago the city council was going to mandate that citizens place their trash in a covered container. Several citizens cried and whined that they may not be able to afford a container. The city contracted with Republic who provided "free" containers and the citizens complained that they are too bulky and that they did not like the "blue" colored containers. The containers, some say, are an eyesore. I guess all that trash that used to fill the alleys and roadways, with the crows picking at spoiled food and stray dogs running with a dirty baby diaper in their mouth was pleasant scenery? "About Time & Cowboy Bob" are correct. This city looks like "A level above a landfill." First impressions are important. Why would anyone want to locate a business here when people whine and cry about trash containers and do not take pride with their own property?

I love my new container. All this negative talk makes me grouchy.

I like the new containers. They are heavy, but smaller ones are available for those who need them. I've seen city wide mandates on trash containers up and down the East and West coast for years now. I'm glad that Terre Haute is finally catching up somewhere - even if it is just with the trash.

However, Terre Haute is still filthy with trash everywhere.

I'm also glad that we're not being charged out of pocket for trash service - yet.

The city needs an ordinance requiring trash bins to be taken from the street within "x" number of hours after being emptied. I am tired of seeing the bins laying at the curb (and sometimes blown into the street) even days after being emptied.

The city doesn't enforce the ordinances they have on the books now, do you think they would enforce a new ordinance?

I would agree with that....I get the biggest kick out of some of the ones we have now. I mean, now I think most officials do a really good job around here. But last year, please keep all sarcasm to a minimum, I completely tilled up my yard and leveled it out to try and keep the majority of the water off of the sidewalks because of the way the yard was laid out the water ran directly to the out of level sidewalks that I have. I have a little handicapped boy that runs his wheelchair up and down, made me kind of heartbroken for him to see him have to go through water. But anyway, so back to the ranch I seeded my grass really well and let it grow to where it would seed itself too before I ever mowed it. They came by and wanted to give me a citation for not mowing my grass...I thought you know, we have all these people with trash all throughout their yard and alleys and I am trying to do something to help the city and my lot and you are going to fine me for it. There are much worse things going on then my 18 blades of grass being too tall until they release the seeds....Sorry just infuriated me!
