I am new to the area. A friend of my nephews plays for SS.We were told about how rough talking there head coach was. He seemed pretty calm but did have the boys very uniformed in everything they did. However they played a Chauncey Rose team. All I can say is WOW. They seem to have alot of talent on the team and a few enthusiastic parents. But there sidelines was a mess.Seen some teenage girls(not the place for them)sitting on a bench for players. But the most obnoxious thing was a Woman in a coach shirt. She was yellin and barkin at those poor kids.I was told by Mr Bells asst coach that she was the coaches wife. I for one am sure she has never played a game of football. And I am not sure if her kid plays for the team But I walked over close right after halftime She was rude and very belittling to those boys.If I had a child on that team I would see that she was off the sidelines.Who is she to judge when a child needs to have a drink. All I can say is Mr Head Coach of Chauncey Rose your boys took a beating on the field give them a break and keep your Sidekick in a good mood or in a Boot Camp where she belongs.

AND LEAVE YOUR WIFE AT HOME!

I agree he is a nice person. But she is pure evil.Poor guy did Prison time why would he sign up for another sentence by living with her.All I am saying is James Bell gets bad wrap because he yells at the players but at least it is doing good and those kids are GOOD.This lady wannabe coach has got some good kids on her team but has them so confused. And yellin at kids for wearin jerseys or bein late. My kid will never play for a person like that. And all those white girls that hang out at Chauncey tell her that Gum smackin and skinny jeans aint workin for her.

I help out with Chauncy Rose youth team. I know what you mean by the coaches ex wife. She is rough and a bit mean at times, but she really does care for these kids. She works at the juvenile center, and has seen it all when it comes to kids being bad. She uses a different style to mold kids into respecting others. And the head coach has made mistakes in hid life but that was 20 years ago. He is a very nice guy and when he missed practice it was to cover a shift at his job for a young lady that was having family issues. When he missed a game it was to bury his niece. The whole team missed a game because it was an away game and 90% of the kids couldn't get rides all the way up to Otter Creek, CR is poor. And as for CR getting whooped by SS. Sarah Scott has 48 players and started practice 2 weeks before anyone else. We only have 24 kids. We had kids that had to play the whole game because we didn't have enough. It's an issue with VCYF that coaches can recruit kids form all over town to play, and SS has several kids that are should be in 5th and 6th grade, but because they flunked they can still play with little kids. Kind of hard to have a 3rd grader that weighs 55 lbs tackle a 6th grader that is shaving everyday, just saying, But our kids have a great time, and they really like Coach Smith. It's all about the kids, the lessons they learn and the friendships they make that make youth football great, it isn't about the score. a tol of out kids really look forward to what our coaches can teach them, and even if some people believe Mrs. Smith is to harsh the kids like her so oh well

Ok Mr. Hensley, I have never posted on here until now. I agreed with your post until you started downgrading children from Sarah Scott or because of their size. I know The Smith's and believe they would be great coaches regardless of his past and her different appraoches. Do you know for a fact that these children your talking about really flunked? Or are they just bigger kids and you are assuming? I have a son who is now in high school and for many years people made that comment about him, people in youth football and every other sport played. He has never flunked, actually he is an honor roll student. He shaved before other kids his age and the kids often teased him, but the sad part is so did adults. I had to show my sons birth certificate almost everywhere we went, and I still do at times. He was always in the proper age/grade level, but because he was tall and matured early adults, such as yourself made fun of him. I hope your not doing that to these kids, I hope no other child must go through what my son did in his early years of sports. It did make him strong though and he learned to take it as a compliment. I learned that gown men who made rude comments about my son were simply jealous, they wished they could be half the man that he was at such a young age. Know your facts about a child before you open your mouth!!!

I beg to differ I walk the track at CR during football practices.I was not sure till tonight who this lady u speak of was.Big glasses and skinny jeans on a big rump woman was a dead give away.I listened to this womans constant screaming at these kids yelling they were not hurt.I seen her makin fun of a little cute chubby boy cause he could not run as fast as the others.I have never seen her do or say anything positive.I seen her throw a helmet accross the field towards a kid and she works in law enforcement?A good way to hurt a kid and put her behind a McDonalds counter for a long time.As far as her lovin kids then why is she not watchin her kids play. Prob. because they will not allow her. There is one reason why she comes to yell at kids. She is afraid one of those pretty white girls ( that blocked my track) might catch his eye.Mr Tim kudos to you helping out with the kids. But by the looks of the vehicles not all those kids are poor. And as far as Mr Smiths past umm The Man in the Sheriffs uniform that seems to make an appearence at the start of every practice wouldnt be checkin up on him would he?Let the kids play in peace

The only coach that I've found that actually gives a sh!t about these boys is coach rich harden. All the rest are worthless! My sons played for a few years and due to the lack of respect coaches showed them they choose not to play anymore. Mr Grover being one of them, worst coach ever. When did calling kids pet names become a part of coaching youth football, and James bell we won't even get started on him. I wish there were more coach hardens, he genuinly cares about these boys but due to the fact all the rest are worthless youth football is going down the drain! So sad for these young men who are so eager to play

I do no think anyone is disputinh the fact that Mr Smith is a Good Man. All I am saying is he would have much more productive practices and perhaps win a game if he kept his wife off the field.I see coaches wives at other games bringing water coolers and so forth the only thing I ever see that rude lady carrying in is her attitude. Also I had the chance on Sunday to see the team mom in action with the kids she by far is a great person. She cheered for the whole team and even was putting eye grease on the kids. I believe it was her son that was praying before the game. She is the Blonde hair lady with the book that knows times and kids names. On another note,I was told Mr Smith asked the kids parents if the team moms kid could pray or if it were offensive. Funny thing is he never ask the same permission if his rambo wife could scream

I have a hard time thinking he was in the wrong for asking the parents if they would be offended if that child prayed before the game.I don't think it's anyones business if a child wants to pray before a game nor do I believe it should be an issue! I feel that with all the B.S. when it comes to religion in this country and in schools that the coach done the right thing by asking. On the other hand if they can biuld a f'ing -"mousq" sp?- in New York then our children should be able to pray if they want to, but thats another forum. I don't go to church or preach my beliefs so please lets not turn this into a holy war on this forum. These are MY OPINIONS!

Alot of coaches are not real coaches. Most have Never even played organized football above youth level. Makes it kind of hard to really teach something you know little about.

There is something in the by laws about how old a kid can be to play in what grade. I think they cannot be older than 12 or turn 12 by a certain month to play in 4th grade. Not sure evactly what it says, I don't remember but I did see it. Just another rule that VCYFL overlooks. Those rules were put in there for a reason and if some 9 year old 3rd grader gets hurt by a 13 year old 4th grader playing football, VCYFL is going to get the crap sued out of them so be ready parents for an increased registration fee.

PS. There are some flunkies on SS's team and that's OK, we all learn at different paces. I just think that football should be like baseball and it should go by age not grade. Football more so being how it is a full contact sport. These are issues that can be resolved. Go to the Pop Warner website and see how they do it. I'll tell you how they do it, like it's supposed to be done, that's why they are so successful. Terre Haute needs to get with it.

Again, are you saying these kids are flunkies because of their size and maturity? Or do you know for a fact this kid has flunked? Otter Creek had 2 flunkies for several years it seemed, they were bigger and stronger than most other players on every team. I do not hear anyone talking about them, is it because they are Otter Creek? Quit picking on the kids, be adults and help the kids.
