Why is Hamilton Center's Pay so low?

I've been wondering that for years!! I know exactly how much $$ HCI receives from Medicaid for my one hour of work with a client. Compare that to what they pay me...ridiculous! They claim to provide quality care, but yet can't retain quality employees with their current rate of pay. How is it quality care when a 7 year old with abandonment issues has 2 different therapists and 3 different case managers in a year??

Not everyone's salary is low. Not across the street anyway.

It's nice to see the CEO is driving around in a brand new car that HCI is paying for but he chooses to lie to employees about a 2% pay increase when all it turned out to be was a one time payout. Funny they cant afford a increase in employee pay but the CEO has a brand new car while the company has loads of cash on hand.

The place is probably sitting on a ton of money. I have never seen a more "for profit" not for profit in my life. Of course he has a new car. Two of the ceo candidates stated they did NOT want to take a car as part of the contract in order to go towards salaries. But of course "da man" did.

Why would the board of directors allows such Extravagance to be flaunted? Back to the pay being low, why wont someone on the board of directors stand up and get our wages up to par?

Galen was a class act, Mel is an egotistical reverse racist that only got the job because he is black. Used to have his school board signs in his office, that shouldn't have been allowed. A clear violation of the hatch act.

He probably threatened a law suit and the board caved to pressure. Terre Haute is a corrupt town in regards to politics and business.

Wonder if any HCI board members ever read the Topix. They should. Probably wouldn't make them make any different decisions though as they would be too afraid to buck "his reign". He didn't get the position by being the best candidate. That alone defines him as a person.

If the HCI board of directors cared, they would have listened to the staff and community members when they clearly indicated (after hearing all 3 candidates present) that Mel was the last choice! Or they would have listened to the overwhelming number of leadership staff that tried and tried to get access to the board of directors in order to express their concerns and opinions. Or they would have listened to the recommendations from the hiring consultant. Or, they would NOT have actually disregarded the VOTE from the search committee that recommended a candidate other than Mel Burks.

Just heard 2 psychologists, a nurse practitioner and the head of the IT department have left or are leaving. Doesn't the board wonder about this. I don't think salary was the reason for their departure. In fact I know it was the negative culture that drove them away.

i heard when he found out the people were leaving instead of offering them more money, JERKS offered them a pop corn machine for their office. They said shove it and are leaving anyway. Guess it doesn't pay to treat your workers like SLAVES!!! Let all the professional people leave though; there is always more high school people to hire and make money!

it's awful, but one of the few mental health jobs in the community in which some of us need for experience to go on our resumes if we want to pursue higher fields. Hardly anyone meets their goals for productivity and the one's that do get nothing as a bonus. NOTHING. His response was he just didn't give the direct skills technicians any because there was a pay raise. WHOA $8.75 to now $10. Thanks alot. Most people are single moms that with the increase LOST their medicaid and now struggle even more because they make $30 over the limit. Some raise..... instead of the $14 that other companies are paying, he was thinking smart. Make his company look good that it doesn't have alll these people on medicaid and a little "bump" and bam he should be applauded and bowed to. Thanks Mr. Burks for NOT acknowledging the hard work that SOME of us provide because we take our jobs seriously even though we are treated as the joke.

Who cares if some are single moms? How about the guys that knocked these chicks up before they realized they were horrible people and now are forced to give an unfair percentage of their paycheck to the "single mom" when all they really want is tobe able to see their children, meanwhile these are getting free groceries and insurance, housing while looking for the next victim they can spread their legs open for.

I think that the nurse practitioner who left had some additional concerns besides pay, but they still fall under 'job conditions.'
I'm so glad that there are dedicated people who stay to help their clients. I hope that clients and communiity members/stakeholders will make their concerns about the high turnover known to the board and CEO. I think that's the only hope for real change.
I always wondered about the wages. The company usually cite prevailing wage standards - they pay a rate that is average for workers at those jobs in this area. Well duh! If you're the largest employer in the area, you set the wages!
