In the public school system try Lost Creek. Other than that I would look into St Patrick's.

Don't land in Vigo county. You can move 10 miles east of town and the taxes are 1/3rd and the crime is 1/10th. Though the Clay schools aren't as techie, they are a lot better because the free/reduced percentage is way lower.

You're way better off staying away for Vigo schools if you can.

Oh, and believe me, I know. My kids go to one district and I work for the other.

There will be good and bad in any school you send your child to. It doesn't matter if it is public or private, urban or rural. What will help your child most is for you to be involved in their school, and for you to teach them how to handle situations involving peer pressure, and them knowing they can always come to you. There are many good schools in Vigo County, many great teachers, and lots of outstanding students. Like I said, there will be good and bad in any school you pick. There is no perfect school. If you're looking to avoid all negative influences, you're only choice would be to homeschool so that you can control it.

Davis Park is a good elementary school! Now that being said, your neighborhood might not be that good depending on what part of their district you live in, but I was very pleased with my son's education there K-5th grade. He's in 7th now. Personally, I would prefer to send my child to an elementary school with some diversity (racially, economically, religiously, etc.) as opposed to the "outskirt" schools (Rio Grande, Lost Creek, Hoosier Prairie) because they are all going to end up together at North or South eventually and I would prefer that my son learn about differences and tolerance at a young age. Davis Park has a great population mix and the teachers are some of the most dedicated and caring people I've met. In my opinion, you couldn't ask for a better elementary school experience than at Davis Park!!

Riley or Lost Creek Elem are good schools. They have great teachers and the part of Terre Haute they are located in are excellent. I have always had good experiences with the vigo co schools. One child is now in college and other is at North High School. They both had positive experiences and did well in school and various school activities

If you live in the Woodrow Wilson district, be prepared to have the kids out during the day, walking by a busy street, putting stupid and ugly signs out in the neighborhood, throwing trash and being rude and loud. What a neighborhood this is and the teachers encourage this? Great school. Glad my kids are out of school and not going to this one! Society changing to the worse! Keep the kids in the classrooms and make them LEARN, not play games!!!! RIDICULOUS! Wonder why our nation is below standards, now we know why! BOOKS, READ THEM AND DO HOMEWORK! Not leave school and have a safety issue to walk along a busy road in town!! Society is going crazy and kids are getting worse!

ha!
1. The students were on an EDUCATIONAL field trip where learning was taking place ALL day long.
2. Students were with chaperones 1 adult for every 10 students.
3. Extra police were ordered to patrol the walk up, during the day and the walk back.

No one was clogging streets.
No one threw trash... Because they had no trash to throw.
No one hung and ugly signs .. But rather professionally designed/printed ones that were up for all of 3 hours.

Get your facts straight.

School was meant for teaching, not sports, or allll the extras they have now.
And please tell me why any students, in any school need field trips out of town?.....New York, Washington D.C., Paris France?.....really??.
Always pis*ed me off when they sent crap home with them to sell, and it still cost me money to fund the projects.
Heres how it should be, the students that really try to learn, and keep good grades, should get to go to college free, the ones that are not so smart, should have an opportunity to go to a tech. school, or learn a trade......then there the ones that we need for digging ditches, and floppin Whoppers.

Fuqua is a good school, with good teachers as well as diversity.
