That's real smart. The economy is down, so let's pump a bunch of money into a new court house. People are hungry, don't have jobs and are losing their homes. I guess they need a nice new building to work all those bankruptcy cases.

Think about it this way....a new building provides jobs, they pay the architect to design it. They pay the operators to move the dirt, then the pipefitters, the carpenters, the construction workers. They get paid and take thier money and go to the store, the store workers get paid and don't lose thier job. They take thier families out to eat, the food service workers get paid and dont' lose thier job. They get paid well enough, they go buy a car and the car builders and car salesmen get paid.

It is all a big food chain.

As for the current building, they say it is not very secure, so that is another reason they are building a new one.

Here is the problem (Thompson/Thrift) how is the same contractors able to get the bid, every time? It would be different if they were quality builders but they are not! They are the two most arrogant people in this community & feel like they have to be on every board & committee, they are on an EGO trip, while they are raking people over the coals. Honestly, they have to go back & redo alot of what they have cut corners on. We noticed a defect at the children's Museums Beam on the east side of the building & notified the proper people but the next day it was covered so the public could not see it. Look at the slums here in Terre Haute,a majority of them are from GX T; who is the front runner as being # 1 SLUM LORD of this city. How does he get by with it, THE ALMIGHTY $$$$. Thompson/Thrift does receive awards state wide as being a thriving company, but if the buildings they put up were properly inspected they would be in big trouble. They are big fish in a small pond & have been beaten by the same arrogant stick as are last mayor.

I agree with your theory, the only problem I have is if the old building isnt very secure, then why did they restore it?

Ask any employee who works at the hotel that Thomoson & Thrift built on the site of the old TH House. Everyone will tell you that the design for exhausting the restaurant smoke s u c k s and the bar area smells like french fries most of the time.

I wouldn't recommend anyone going in for a beer just to check it out. Tracy in the lounge bar will charge you $3.96 for a bud light. A Hennessy is close to $10.00

Why didn't you buy it from tne Hulmans and restore it.The building set empty for many years. The trouble with all these idiots in Terre Haute they want to tell other people how to spend there money. As soon as someone has idea, some people think they have a better one. Why didn't they come forward first the for sale was up.

I'M not one to downplay boosting the economy, however, I dont feel its very practical to restore a building that isn't very "stable". I just think a lot of people waste money when it could be going someplace worth while.

I am thinking a little more has to do with a "safety cushion" for attacks. The old building was literally feet off the road. This new one, judging from the sand pad that they are workign on will be about double what the current one is away from the road. As for the old building, it is nice, and luckily it is staying around. But I bet it costs a arm and leg to heat and cool, tall ceiling. Old inefficient ventilation. Two Stories. This new one will be one story, shorter ceilings, and up to date efficient ventilation. Also it will have.....parking. I don't believe there is much parking at the current one, and if there is parking, you have to fight with other places around there spots.

Why even have a court house?...the jail is obviously not very secure they way things are getting in, before ya know it the inmates will figure out a way to just sneak out. It kills me how there is no common sense when it comes to the government spending money.
