MY ONLY COMPLAINT ABOUT THE GOLDEN APPLE AWARDS IS THAT I DON'T BELIEVE THE VOTING IS FAIR. I KNOW TWO TEACHERS WHO WERE NOMINATED WHO HAVE OVER 30 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE ARE INVOLVED IN MANY STUDENT ACTIVITIES AS WELL AS COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES. NEITHER OF THIS NOMINEES WERE EVEN CONSIDERED AS FINALISTS. WHAT IS THE CRITERIA FOR BEING CONSIDERED A FINALIST AND WHY DOES IT SEEM THAT MOST WINNERS ARE ONLY FROM TERRE HAUTE SCHOOLS. I WAS UNDER THE IMPRESSION THAT WTHI SERVED THE WABASH VALLEY. IT IS UNFORTUNATE THAT ONE NOMINEE, CHARLIE JACKSON, WASN'T SELECTED HE IS A GREAT TEACHER AND INDIVIDUAL WHICH ALL JUDGES WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER PEOPLE FOR MEETING. I GUESS IT IS YOUR LOSS.

Charlie Jackson is a middle school teacher at South Vermillion and is not a weirdo, or homosexual for that matter, and I thought you weren't suppose to post rude comments about someone. He is an excellent teacher and a great citizen CLEANUPtheRIVER must just be jealous that know one would ever think of him in that way.

I think that I would have to agree with the person from Valdosta GA. Mr. ( Charlie ) Jackson is a GREAT person and an Excellent Teacher. I am very proud to say that my daughter has had him at the South Vermillion Middle School. And she loved him. And besides Clean up the River you should take a good look at yourself and wonder what kind of person you are for making such comments about a wonderful person. Maybe you should take a GOOD look at yourself....

What is not fair? I bet they get hundreds of nominations. They have take it down to a few without even seeing the teachers. Just because your teacher didn't get picked doesn't mean they should have. I think all the winners that got picked were great ones.

I happened to go watch the Golden Apple Awards show last week. In the show Mark Allen said that they had something like 250 nominations. Clearly, alot of quality teachers were nominated, but they only could pick 5.

When they introduced the judges, they were local business leaders that sponsored the event, as well as previous Golden Apple winners. Of the 5 winners, one was from somewhere over in Illinois and the other was from southern Indiana (Shoals, maybe?) so winners were chosen from around the area.

I believe that the Golden Apple is a great award honoring educators who go above and beyond the call of duty to make learning fun for the children. Simply putting it down because a favorite candidate didn't get chosen isn't very nice, either. Many educators go above and beyond the call of duty to be EXCELLENT educators and GREAT people. Part of winning the Golden Apple depends on the letters of recommendation, parent support, and making your case STAND OUT above the rest. It isn't saying anyone who was nominated WASN'T qualified, but narrowing it down to only 5 teachers is part of it.
I do agree, however, that Terre Haute could have one to two winners per year-TOPS- and the rest of the wabash could also find educators who go above and beyond. Terre Haute can't have THAT MANY educators who are extremely EXCELLENT!!!!!! The rest of the wabash has GREAT educators as well, if they would look harder!!!!!!!!! I understand it is sponsored in TH, however three out of the five winners from the same town is a little bit MUCH! I can agree with you on that one!
