Which mausoleum? There are also the unmarked gypsy graves at Highland 3of them are marked. Again prominent families of Terre Haute committing murder. Like they did with a black man named George at the old Covered wagon bridge. Which crossed the Wabash where the old 2 lane road was, they hung him, burnt him and dismembered him.Soem even took souveniers home, body parts. A schoolteacher was murdered around the area of the prairie House and of course in those days they always blamed the first black man they found or beat them until they "confessed". He was at the jail and was to be transferred to Indianapolis the next morning but they supposedly overpowered the sheriff, yea right he probably opened the door for them. how is that for a real life Ghost story for you? McCormick, is that the historians name for Vigo County? Did a story on it. But as someone else said he sugar coats it.
Can u tell me where the gypsy graves are the ones that are marked.
And can u tell me how they died if you know?¿?

ronald l baker is a professor of folklore at ISU, and gives a great class on indiana ghost stories every once and a while.. he gets good reviews from kids online

he published a really cool book called 'indiana folklore' that has a lot of stories about terre haute. he did a nice job, because he doesn't retell the stories himself, but collected and printed interviews w/ people who knew the stories, and includes multiple versions w/ variations on the same tales. i really highly recommend it if you're into indiana ghost stories - i loved reading this book as a kid, getting myself so scared i couldn't sleep at night. ;-]

you can buy it used for 2 cents plus shipping from amazon! http://www.amazon.com/Hoosier-Folk-Legends-Mi...

I have heard some crazy stories about Edna Collins Bridge. Off of 36 I think out by Racoon Lake. I have heard quite a few stories. Some guys that do ghost hunting in Indiana took some evps out there and got some crazy stuff. I went with them one time to the old Clinton High School but never seen or heard anything.

The streets of TH are haunted. That's why there's so many spooks walking down the middle of the road.

The arches in green castle are pretty neat and spooky. Its 7 stone arches about 40 feet tall that support train tracks there's a chamber between each arch that can only be reached if you go over and down the arches. Spooky freaking place.

My other favorite is Elishias grave drive eat on 42 until you o across a bridge over I 70. Take the first right after the bridge go about half a block and you'll see a gravel road between two ponds that leads into the woods. Follow the road (you have to walk it the gates always locked) and you'll come to a clearing with a cemetary. In the middle of the cemetery three roads back there's a tall grave stone the inscription reads:
As you are no so once was I.
As I am now you soon will be.
Prepare for death and follow me.

Read it three times and Elisha will walk across the back of the grave yard near the woods ( I never saw it). May not be haunted but if you bring a girl up there and read the stone I guarantee she'll be holding your hand on the walk back to the car. Its a spooky place

There's a covered bridge in southern Vigo county that is supposed to be haunted. If you drive slowly through the bridge, stop at the end of the bridge and put a cigarette in your mouth it is said a flame will appear to light your cigarette.

much related, i've got a question about paranormal stuff in terre haute for anyone who might have an answer..

my dad was friends with several cops or deputies in TH and (especially) Brazil, and i remember him telling me about an investigation into some occult stuff happening near one of the railroad trestles or tunnels in the area, possibly near one of the hell gates. i heard the story in the mid 90s, and this was all supposed to have happened in the 70s or 80s, but maybe was as late as early 90s though i doubt it. anyways, what i remember of his story is that there had been reports of dead/mutilated animals and pentagrams showing up under this bridge, so they installed some surveillance equipment or sent officers to stake it out, and sure enough they found some kids trying to perform satanic rituals and killing animals out there. the freaky thing, though, that scared the crap out of me when i heard the story, was that the deputy said one of the participants, a teenaged/20-something girl, had voices coming out of her that definitely did not match her body. in a scary, pull up your panties and run home to momma sort of way, even for a deputy.

does anyone have any more info on what this might be about, or other weird satanic stuff/witchcraft going on in terre haute, besides of the idiotic hot topic variety?

There was a lot of pseudo satanic worship during the 70s mostly due to the Manson media frenzy. Sullivan county took it a little more seriously than Vigo. Seems Brazil did have quite a bit of activity during that time.

So much damage to the stones has been done, no one is allowed back there without the property owner's permission. Super nice people, if you speak to them first.
