I heard thru the grapvine that Otter Creek has approx. 994 students!? 45 per class room, when 35 is fire code? Woodrow Wilson was allowed to pick who they wanted so their test scores wouldn't go down and the rest were shipped to Otter Creek?

Fire code? How many fires have we had at schools in terre haute? Vigo county is a joke. Spend time with your child, make sure they understand the material and stay on them to make grades. If you spend all your time worring about petty nonsense then you are wasteing time you could be using to educate your child.

Has anyone brought up the possible fire code violations with the Fire Department, Principal, Superintendent, PTO? It could be serious if it is true.

35 students per room had more to do with state regulations of teacher/student ratio, particularly in regards to "lab classes".

To have more than 35 students, the teacher must sign form stating they are aware of the situation and agree to bypass the regulation. Otherwise it's a breech of contract and ISTA can make a lawsuit.

I certainly wouldn't call fire code petty. Those codes are put in place for the safety of occupants in a building. I'm sure you're too young to remember the great white concert that was filled beyond fire code ( and other codes not enforced as well) and people died.

Over crowding in classrooms can lead to Low teacher moral, student behavioral issues and many many other issues that are NOT at all petty.

Should the closing of Chauncey Rose been postponed?

That's a major problem and needs a mediate attention. Why has this not been figured out by now?

I drove through there the other day. OC is a shambles, nasty pink paint falling off all exterior supports, dated everything. Just like the streets, they threw the North end a bone a few years back and put that nasty house trailer looking facade on the place and called it a remodel, probably paid 10 million to do it. The corp is a joke led by a dirty little man and trust me, those if those teachers signed anything it was under the duress of being "replaced" for nonconformity.

I was wondering why the principal from O.C. is a vice principal at north this year. Smart man to not want to deal with this. It has been a pretty good school in the past. This is a problem our school board members should have had worked through. They had over a year to do so. One parent said the buses are over crowded to. They should have to fix this problem. Parents need to let it be known.

The big boss thought the test scores should have been higher at OC. It didn't matter that they had gone up every year that the former principal had been there.. The ex principal should be happy he doesn't have to kiss a$$ as much as he did in the past three years. He doesn't have the almighty central office looking over his shoulder everyday. When are you people REALLY going to become proactive and throw all the bums out of central office ---including the puppets called "The School Board." this is just another manipulation by "the man, the myth, the legend- Dan Tanoos."

Shouldn't they already be in possession of those facts since it is supposedly their area of expertise? Why should it have to be BROUGHT to their attention?

You're right it shouldn't have to be brought to their attention. If they are in violation it may have to be passed under their noses again. Just because they know doesn't mean they obey the law.

The north end has always been neglected. Im a correct in saying that everything north of hawthorn is considered out of city limits? Wilson is nice, honey creek looks amazing, chauncy was way nicer than oc. This is just how it has always been and i dont see it changing anytime soon. It seems the school corp wants the money filtered to the areas of th where through traffic flows. Since not many people see the north end i guess our kids are just s.o.l.

here is a big part of the problem. The money set aside for each school is determined by the amount of property tax collected in that zone. School districts with 2 hundred thousand dollar houses are going to have a much bigger budget than those with 15 thousand dollar houses. Hence less money for teachers and materials at oc then anywhere else. This is way the old saying the rich get richer holds true. Under funded schools will remain under funded

Ask your neighborhood teacher friends about our back to school meeting last Monday. We had such lively entertainment-------a flash dance done by all administrators. OMG, I was embarrassed for them making idiots of themselves. Guess who was the lead dancer on the floor? The biggest idiot of all, so cute.
