Then why don't you post a little more information so that it can be discussed? All you have done is post your opinion with nothing else for the reader to gauge your position.

Yes, more info is needed. In order to have an intelligent discussion about this principal we need to know what she is or is not doing to the school. Of course, an intelligent discussion on Topix is an oxymoron.

A little girl had cancer an she wanted her kicked out of school for missing so many days of school. She measured girls dress length at their first homecoming, didn't let the school have a second. And fired Mark wright a teacher there since 1977 and the best teacher there. She won't return parent calls or emails. She Isn't doing anything better for that school

I thought Mr. Wright retired. He was a Golden Apple Award winner. Something fishy somewhere. Is the superintendent aware of this alleged mismanagement?.

He was asked to retire, or he was getting fired. And yes there is a group of retired teachers going to school board meetings trying to figure out what's going on

Wow! Mr Wright was a great teacher! He may have been a little chillax and plastered his walls with Jimi Hendrix and The Doors posters but his method of teaching actually worked. He got down on our level and taught in a way we would understand.

What happened to Mark was he was in the state of retire or be fired. He was the only teacher that I really learned from at SV. Very sad to hear what happened to him.

I assume the principle of the topic is the principal

The little girl with cancer is actually that, a little girl. She is not in high school. Wow, Barb must have amazing power to kick her out. I find it funny that when a person is in a position of authority, they are to blame for everything. Also, I personally liked Mr. Wright, however, if he was asked to make some changes to his curriculum and refused, then he should have been let go. If he had done this at any other job, he would have been fired. What is the difference?

I can tell you that the "little girl" who had cancer is a high school student. She is now healthy, thank God, but the school did send e-mails to her family about having in school suspension if she returned to school without a doctor's note. The school is getting out of control as far as the dress code goes, attendance, and even using the restroom. One student was told that the teachers were not allowed to give any more bathroom passes. The teacher stated that "they" wouldn't allow it. "they" usually means the principal. I'm completely disgusted with what has went on this year at the school!

Find a building/room somewhere that can house a few students, get the parents to volunteer to guide the group and sign up for home schooling. You can make your own rules and avoid the principal you dislike. Along the way you might discover that when you have multiple teens in the same place you have to have some rules or chaos sets in.

as a published author I really hate it that anyone can come on the net, write anything they choose, good, bad, mean, untrue, and they don't have to sign their name, so they have no reprecussions for their actions, if you accuse have the guts to own up to what your saying. Don't just throw it out there with malice. You don't like the shape the schools in, ad I agree things are bad, ie test scores, bulling, losing kids to other schools, next year there will another school board election, start there, its the best way for change.

@ Sick of South Vermilion, there is a little girl in my child's class that was threatened with suspension within the past couple of months for missing too much school so that she could be treated by her physician. This was not at the high school. If there is another child that this has happened to, then so be it.

My daughter is a high school student at South Vermillion. She was diagnosed with cancer last year, and underwent two serious surgeries and missed alot of school. Thankfully, she is healthy now, thank God, but the school wasn't helpful in any way. We received e-mails that stated that if she didn't return to school with a note from the doctor, she could receive a in school suspension, or flunk the the semester. I've had a case worker from Riley's hospital involved to get it through to the school corporation that when your child has had a serious illness and major surgeries, and is told by her doctor's that she CAN NOT return to school for a few days, that she has a legal right to miss school and it not be held against her as long as she keeps up with her homework. The legal right is called a 504. My daughter was completely caught up on all her subjects and made a 4.0. My point is that the school needs to stop threatning children who miss for medical reasons and go after the children who chose not to go to school because they just don't feel like it. As a parent, it is my job to defend my child to the best of my ability. When the school started to threaten my child and give her a hard time, this momma bears cage was rattled HARD!
