Sure did. One was a long term companion the other a more recent friend. It was termed a suicide but the doc was shot multiple times with a shotgun. Kind of hard to do alone.
Did anyone ever confirm this about Dr. Conforte? I don't have to read this whole thing.

How would you confirm this? The family was either in denial or refused to admit it. They did not want the Doc's reputation ruined. I doubt police reports showed it.
Those of us who were old enough to remember it know how it went down.

It's not that I like government "welfare" programs. While I don't believe in shaming people who use these programs, I would like to live in a society where assistance to the poor and needy was provided voluntarily.
What bothers me about this is that the *police* ARE a "welfare" program. What do you call it when someone gets paid $40 an hour at taxpayer-expense to stand around at a work detail when most retail and fast food workers are making minimum wage or just above it? What do you call it when someone gets a paycheck at taxpayer expense to stand on the side of the road with a radar gun?
What do you call it when someone gets overtime pay at taxpayer expense to tickets drivers who don't stop at crosswalks?
What do you call it when the only consequence someone faces for murdering someone is a paid vacation at taxpayer expense?
What do you call it when someone gets to retire in their 50's with a huge, taxpayer-funded pension?
I'd call that a government "welfare" program, if there ever was one. As I've been told numerous times at protests, "Get a job!"
First of all police are not paid by the hour. Secondly, their pay rate per 40 hour work week does not figure out to $40 per hour. They are paid to prevent or fix the messes that the illiterate, disrespectful and unlawful leave for the law abiding taxpayer to deal with. Unfortunately for everyone the police cannot keep up with the dead beats and all their nonsense related issues. Nor can the police manage all the drunken spoiled university attendees. The police department members who are tainted get hidden by the unfounded claims from the crybabies because it's difficult to weed out the bad after wading through bullshit.
The idiots would be totally out of control if they had no barriers.

If the above stated comment was factual , that poor concerned mother on south 9 street wouldn't feel as she does. Furthermore just the volume of complaints in this discussion indicates your towns police department has some leadership and public relation problems.

Well Said! Sad but true. My step son got a badge out of a gum machine a few days ago and he said that he was disappointed that it didn't give him magical powers. It would appear that some people around the country seem to have the same mentality as my 5 year old boy. Now on "Law breakers": I found a probably drunk homeless guy passed out in my non door garage a few nights ago. He had taken nothing and apologized profusely. So rather than whine on the phone to some non caring policemen, I dealt with the problem myself and offered him a ride to the mission. But the point is that I dealt with the problem on my own rather than have the law turn him into some kind of violent burglar simply for being homeless having no place to go yet. There's a certain amount of self respect that is personally gained from being responsible enough without getting some department who clearly isn't mature or reality based involved in the worsening of another persons life just to cause trouble. I am not saying that I think that there should be no law at all (although not much would really change) I just feel that "Some" policemen really do try to enforce laws fairly and equally as best as they can and should be rewarded for according behavior. It's important to remember that. However, calling the police is for many is an absolute last resort and maybe not even then depending on the situation. No one like a busybody. Any laws that I follow are out of moral obligation only.

Everyone seems to complain about the police in Indiana more than other states because Indiana is much more unregulated than other states in lieu of what police are allowed to get away with. More than a few people have told me over the years that the police in Indiana don't even have to read you your rights or identify themselves. That's not good if it's really true. Seems to be another transparency problem.

As I've said NUMEROUS times in all of these different threads, if anyone has any evidence of Police corruption, I insist that you post it for all to see. I would also urge you to take it to the state police or even the local FBI office. I've posted that message umpteen times and never once has anyone shown anything at all.. Remember, slander and libel laws only apply to things that are untrue. So provided you have proof of wrong doing, you could shout it from the roof tops with no fear of reprisal.

This is all a bunch of scumbags and criminals complaining. They don't realize that any 2 year old can photo shop a youtube video. but please don't put our officers on youtube.. Eh... We don't want to limit our own options for masking the hookers and shame... we would like to assure the citizens of this fine city that even if there ever somehow was strong accusations of "police corruptions" we would very thoroughly investigate ourselves many times over until it we were absolutely clear that it wasn't our fault. Later on losers!

Probably. But the fact remains that whistle blowers have guts. The police in Terre Haute don't. The dirty deals and police corruption in Terre Haute has really got to the point where you have to make a real effort to pretend not to see it. I guess people like it and don't want anything better out of life they prefer complaining about everything - except crooked cops and bribe talking criminal politicians. They seem to like that part.

The local boys have very few problems with the exception of the drug task force. The Sherriffs dept problems are mostly in leadership. and the State Police have just forgotten their job. They are to aid local departments but primarily to promote highway safety. The State USED to be a very professional department. Its become a gustapo minded machine fed by adrenaline. They have taken it upon themselves a personal mission to remove the drunk drivers from the street. You know, joe citizen that drank ONE too many at some joint downtown. These pussies are all over them. They present no danger and can afford an attorney and will feed the system some more money. You certainly dont see them on n 14th after dark. Hey State boys...How bout draggin your tough ass to the Dew Drop to follow a few folks home? Or Ginnys? No, those people dont have any money and might call you a bad name. Next time your wasting time in TH, go to a domestic. Dont worry THPD will be there to protect you
You've got that the backwards my friend. It's the state that keeps drunks off of the road and does a decent job and the city that is the unregulated thugs that get away with everything. They both work off of the GEO arrest goals (quotas) but the State police only have them on tickets and its pretty low compared to the felony arrest goal numbers set for the city goons. An officer is not allowed to tell you this either if you ever ask one but they all know it. Talk to a retired cop sometime. The THPD has been proven many times over to be a complete joke. I doubt very many of them could live up to the integrity and honor of the State Police.
