This city cant take anymore Mayor...and now you want to tax the trash?
Its time to make cuts where they need to be.
How much do we spend on gasoline a month? Cut out the police cars driving all over the country...this had to be a unbelievable amount of wasted taxpayers money? And who pays for all these fancy decals and flames on the fire trucks?
Why do the fire depts have the most non-fuel efficient vehicles?? Really?!?! Durangos, Dodge 1 ton trucks to haul things to fundraisers? Why do they need all these gas guzzling vehicles?
Make cuts in all of your tax paid emmployees perks not the tax payers

Why not cut salaries on some of the administrative staff and department heads?

Exactly!! So tired of everything coming down to political mistakes and taxpayers pay the price!!
Pay for your own mistakes!
I pay for my own gas...why shouls I pay for all these policemen to drive anywhere they please
Cut out the drive home cars...that would save wear and tear on the cars and lots of $$$ on gas
Cut out the cars for everyone....I drive to work then, drive company cars.

As a resident of Vigo county you also pay for the commissioners new vehicles. Why do they need a take home EXPENSIVE vehicle?

For many years there was a Thpd that would drive a Thpd cop car to-from his place south of clay city on 157. I wonder if he is still doing it. I see several city cars at county residences.

A lot of metro areas, small and large do include trash pick up for residents. It is definitely worked into your tax assessment. A long time ago a resident questioned this practice either because he was disputing his property taxes or wanted to use a different trash removal service and was told it was a service the city provides as part of your taxes. Just like emergency response is part of your taxes, even though there is now talk of charging for any runs they may make. The whole premise of property taxes was to provide paved streets, police, fire, civic services etc to citizens. The city leaders instituted the trash removal to avoid accumulation of trash left by citizens.

Property taxes go to the state, not the city. The city does receive a levy from the property taxes but not for trash pickup. Read a book once in a while!

I like my pink socks the mayor's office sent all of the business owners in town for breast cancer awareness month.

As long as he doesn't take money away from socks for trash pick up - I'm ok.

Yes, property taxes "go to the state" where it is funneled back to the counties, townships and cities to fulfil their budget appropriations. Terre Haute city does not fund itself. Those budgets also include trash pick up which is paid for from the tax dollars collected from city residents.
For those who are unfamiliar with your city/county governmental workings you should take the time to familiarize yourself..... with good info.

can you imagine the garbage laying around if they start charging? It'll look like a landfill from Wabash to 8th Ave.

Or the areas around campas. Those places are looking less than spotless.

Why is it that a huge fire truck is called out when an ambulance is called for?
Im sure that thing only gets like 6 miles per gallon.
