I heard the Conservatory of Music is closing. Anyone else hears this? Hope it's not true.

The new place seems smaller then the old store, they also seemed to not carry as much stuff. Was looking at a guitar for someone and guitar center was much cheaper.

The last time I was in there, it seemed like it was the same stuff they had from the last time I was there. Made me wonder if it was true about them closing.

I know the owners..great people bye the way... and they have never indicated that they were closing or even slowing down. They are paying much less for the lease and thier business is still strong!

That's good to hear. A reliable source said that someone who does a lot of business with the Conservatory was contacted by an out of town music store trying to get their business. The person said the Conservaotry was for sale and probably close to closing. Maybe this guy was just blowing smoke to drum up business. I don't really know the new owners, but they seem nice.

I will say this: this time of year is tough because its summer (vacations etc). However, come August when school is back in session it is business as usual and its good!

I mean what else would the owners do?....music is thier lives.

music is hardley their lives. The owner, jimmer is a bullshit talking bass player wannabee, acts like he knows everything and don't know shit. I think he was a mechanic that got fired and since his uncle owned the store he gave him a job. And his sister/co-owner Hates and makes fun of musicians constantly. They constantly fuck people out of money selling stuff thats used and saying its new. They will be out of biz soon because they owe everyone and their brother money and thats why they have had the same stuff hanging on the walls for two years.
That was a great music store before the old man that owned it died, roy died, and danny got fired.(probably because they could't afford to pay him). Used to be everyone really knew their shit but now its just a bunch of kids running around trying to figure out whats going on.
I ordered a new speaker in there about a year ago and it never came in and never came in and everytime i checked on it Jimmer just stood there like a deer in headlights, and then start carrying on and on and on about a bunch of shit that had nothing to do with anything. This went on for about six weeks and finally one of the guys pulled me off to the side and told me the reason my speaker hadn't come in yet is because the company had them cut off for not paying their bill. AND I paid for the speaker in ADVANCE!!!! I finally got my money back, but fuck them, what a joke.

Interesting, that same thing happened to me. I ordered a rack in there once, about a year ago, and it never did come in. Every time I asked about it the owner guy (bald w/mustache) would be like .....uh..........with shipping companies operating the way they do nowdays, and blah blah blah blah blah. Ten minutes later I had no idea what he was even talking about except my rack still wasn't there. That happened 3 times and I finally said screw it. I went to guitar center and they had one in stock so I just got it insted.

There's really only one really good music store in town, and that's the Music Shoppe on S. 25th.

Not the same owner dude....Nick Pell does not have a bald head and mustache. Maybe you should give the new owner a try?

All retail stores have thier issues...even the music shoppe.

Management there is horrible. Maybe they shouldn't have put "closed" across the front of their old building without thinking. They didn't even tell anyone they they actually moved until leaving that painted up on the windows of their old location for a week. That place isn't the same without Danny. Jeremy Bates is a good asset to their business though. Go see his band Ellusion!

I used to take both my guitars in there about once a month for a restring and setup. When Danny was there they came back PERFECT and played better than new. Also, they would stay in tune no matter how hard I played them. After he left, whoever was working on them obviously just didn't give a shit or was just doing them real fast to make a buck, because they never play as good as they did when Danny was there. I don't know what all he did to make them stay in tune so well, but they don't anymore. Sucks.

Yes Danny was the best no doubt.

I take lessons there and I have purchased equipment also. They have a good environment there and thier prices I thought were fair.
No issues here with the new owner!

He was a trip. I used to get off on watching him change strings on a guitar. He could literaly change a set of strings, adjust the neck, and tune it, literally in like 3 minutes, all while talking on the phone.
It used to crack me up sometimes when he'd grab a banjo and start playing black sabbath or van halen on it. He made the conservatory a fun place to go. Completely different vibe now.
