Trans-Care hands down. After doing some research, Care has never operated or managed a 911 contract. They are primarily a non-emergent nursing home transport company and a back up when Trans-care or THFD units are on other runs. I can't explain why Care has never been awarded a 911 contract after several attempts across the state but commissioners in 92 counties in Indiana plus those in Illinois and Kentucky can't all be wrong. The first 911 contract that would be awarded to Care would be their first ever and that is just too big of a risk for my family.
Care itself has not had one but the mother company has and that system was managed fine. The group of individuals Care has, have had 911 experience, unfortunately they may have had one too many convo calls to actually deal with a TRUE 911 call. Sorry guys but lets face it, if you don't use it you lose it!

The company who has the most to offer our county should be the provider used. Who has the best trained medical personnel, the most capable drivers, good organization, most up to date and well maintained equipment? The company should also be honest enough to honor the agreed upon contract.
Time will tell.

Exactly. Couldn't have said it better myself.
I am trying to understand why anyone would want to support a company headquartered out of state versus a company like Trans/Care who is locally owned and operated. My vote is to support quality local companies who pay local taxes...I guess it is just my philosophy to support local qualified companies vs taking our tax dollars out of state.

Momma, care don't have anymore better trained medical personnel then Trans-care. I think the county need to buy 8 ambulances staff them 24/48 have 5 911 trucks and 3 BLS transfer trucks and they could make money in the long run. Do something like Indianapolis did... Vigo County EMS!!!

Local first unless they can't handle it. 12 years of a fck'd up job is enough. No one was around to bid on it then. TC runs in Indy and Columbus on a small scale. Why should Care not be here. The tax base stays in state. Do you shop the Mall, Krogers, Gander MTN and such. Where do those dollars go. Texas Roadhouse owners live in the Lousiville but you eat there. This is about taxpayers finally getting a good quality company that has deep pockets to support an emergency type business. Your life depends on it so you want to risk you or your loved ones getting to the hospital over a local mom and pop operation. Hell, get yourself a wheel barrow and do it yourself.

I am not saying that Care should not be here; just said that I want my tax dollars supporting a local company. As far as the companies you mentioned, I don't spend my dollars there. I buy groceries at Mikes Market and typically seek out small mom and pop shops to spend my money. I have only needed ambulance service once in my 28 years in Vigo County and it was a Trans-Care ambulance. We were treated with respect and courtesy. Can you give specific examples of how TC *%#%*^ everything up for the past 12 years? Sounds like you work for Care or are very disgruntled. Isn't TC in Clay County too? How can all the commissioners and powers be all wrong. I don't have any inside knowledge of either company. My position is strictly a philosophical one other than I know the EMS director for this region who lives Vincennes. I told her my medical situation a few years ago and she said that TC is one of the most respected regional ambulance service providers in the Midwest.

Yes they are in Clay County but TC screws them by using a Vigo County unit and sets it on the county line to go one way or the other. Charges Clay for 2. You have to know it's not just Tc it's the owners who don't deserve it. Do your research on TC and you wouldn't be an advocate of theirs. Of course you must be a TC employee to be fighting to keep your job as I'm sure you are weating like the owners are. I'm not an employee.

I am trying to do research via all the informed post on this sight. However, all anyone does is slam TC without any specifics and insult me when I inquire about why hasn't Care ever been awarded a. 911 contract anywhere in the state, after, according to one post, decades in the business. I believe there is a reason Care is treated as a second class citizen in the 911 environment. I just want to know why. I would bet that TC gets the Vigo contract because presumably the Commissioners want to keep local money as local as possible. It is good politics and good economic policy especially since nobody can give specifics in why they shouldn't get the contract.

To get things off on the right foot, I'm not an advocate for either company nor am I employed by either. I am a responder within the area for which both companies have responded. I have had patients and family members standing there looking at us asking us why are you not transporting their loved one when TC has outragious enroute time for reasons unknown, and finding out that they pulled a Vigo unit or a Clay unit to make the run. Because I have had it happen in both counties that I have recieved the opposite unit from another county and have had to wait for 20 - 30 minutes. When their ETA was requested 5 mins was given. 15 minutes later we get a BLS crew out of Clay or Vigo whichever scenario you would like to use. I understand that happens, If you have been in the EMS long enough, its an easier corner to cut when your short staffed. However, the communities that we serve deserve better than that. I am definately not saying CARE is the answer. Every company has its hiccups. If CARE thinks they can run the Vigo 911 out of Indy then they are so so mistaken. They can"t control their units now and with the convo runs that they do not to mention they are catching the occassional 911 rollovers for THFD and TC tosses them a bone now and agian. But they try to manage it from and Indy dispatch center and that DOES NOT MAKE SENSE to me when the have the financial backing to place a dispatch center within the county but don't. Good Luck ladies and gents!!

Goddammit! No ambulance company runs 911.
Some dickweed ambulance company makes emergency runs from calls dialed to 911 and received by the 911 system as requested by dispatchers for the 911 system.
Difficult as it is for you cab drivers for Care or TC to believe YOU ARE NOT RUNNING 911.

It is pretty presumptuous to think the winds of change won't be healthy or better for the communities served by the current county transport provider. Look back to late 90's early 2000 when they current took on the contract. They were the cats meow compared to what we had at the time. Who's to say that giving another company a chance won't be healthy until their complacency gets the better of them as well. I hate to say it but when you monopolize an industry for as long as TC has, you begin to think you are untouchable or think you can twist and tweek to fit your needs. TC has good crews as does CARE. It all falls back on the management and how they conduct their business. If they don't care (no pun intended)for the needs of the communities then eventually the tides turn and things start to go badly for the communities and the level or professionalism of the industry pays. Because it does reflect back on all of us unfortunately.
