Several inmates got into it on the Yard after it started from a fight between two inmates the night before. Several were taken to hospitals, but all is calm and no staff were hurt, just inmates from the SHANKS HIDDEN ON THE YARD

I thought the prison incidents only happened to the state prisons that have had cutbacks. Everyone over there at RCF has been blaming Mitch and the commish for cutbacks that result in this type of situation. Look like it can also happen at a Fed place that has not had the same cutbacks in budgets.

The prison at New Castle, where the State riot happened was becasue it was PRIVATIZED. All the worst offenders from AZ. were brought in and supervised by C/O's barely making minimum wage. You do the math on that one.
I don't know about you but I wouldn't work at Wal-Mart if there were customers with shanks, throwing urine/feces on you, spitting on and hitting you.
I don't know what the State and Federal employees make, but not near enough. Same with the Police. Thank goodness no staff were hurt.

You know,, while you state that they may not make very much, they DO take care of them when it comes to having to move. They help with their moving expenses and will opt for the buy out on their homes. Our military doesnt get ANYTHING like this.
Its that time that the cycle of new staff is happening.
How many assistant wardens does this facility have?

I HAVE NO CLUE WHAT MAJOR CUTBACKS THAT THE STATE HAS HAD, BUT I DO KNOW THAT THE BUREAU IS CUTTING WAY BACK ON EVERYTHING. FIRST OF ALL- AT ALL 3 JOINTS IN TERRE HAUTE WE RUN WITH A SKELTON CREW ALL THE TIME. WITH MOST OF THE HACKS THAT COME OFF OF THE MORNING WATCH GET MADE TO STAY AND WORK AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK DUE TO STAFF SHORTAGE. WE RUN AT A BARE MIN. HARLEY LAPPIN THE DIRECTOR AND FORMER WARDEN AT TERRE HAUTE WANTS TO CUT 4000 JOBS. ITS THE DO MORE WITH LESS TIMES NOW. WHEN YOU HEAR THAT A PRISON IS STAFFED AT 92% THAT INCLUDES EVERYONE FROM CHAPLINS, FOOD SERVICE TO LINE STAFF. WHEN IT COME TO THE LINE STAFF OR CUSTODY WE MAY BE LUCKY TO HAVE 75% OF OUR COMPLIMENT. LAST MONTH WE HAD AN OFFICER KILLED AT USP ATWATER CALIFORNIA- IF ANOTHER STAFF MEMBER WAS THERE WITH HIM, HIS LIFE MIGHT OF BEEN SAVED. DO YOU REALIZE THAT ALL WE HAVE TO PROTECT OURSELVES IS OUR KEYS AND A FLASHLIGHT. NOTHING ELSE. WITH TODAY'S NEW INMATE- NOT CONVICT- THEY ARE YOUNGER AND MORE PRONE TO VILOENCE. THERE HAVE BEEN 9 INMATE HOMICIDES IN THE BUREAU THIS YEAR- AND ALSO A RECORD ALREADY OF ARMED INMATE OF STAFF ASSUALTS TOO. TODAY NEW BUREAU IS A VERY DANGEROUS PLACE. WITH WHAT HAPPENED YESTERDAY AT USP TERRE HAUTE, WE AS STAFF WERE LUCKY- WE HAD OUR BEST LT. AND HE CONTROLED THIS WHOLE SITUATION BY NOT LOSING HIS COOL AND REMAINING CALM. ALL STAFF WENT HOME AT NIGHT-AND NO INMATES GOT OUTSIDE THE FENCE. ALOT OF OUR WORK GOES UNNOTICED DOWN THERE. MOST OF THE INMATE POPLULATION HAS NOTHING TO LOSE- WITH ALL THE INMATE PROBLEMS THIS YEAR BUREAU WIDE- TERRE HAUTE IS THE ONLY ONE NOT TO BLOW UP- AND GUESS WHERE THEY ARE SENDING ALL OF THE PROBLEM CHILDS NOW. THIS SPEAKS ALOT FOR THE TERRE HAUTE STAFF- I HAVE BEEN AT 5 DIFFERENT JOINTS AND WAS RAISED IN THE A FAMILY THAT HAD BOTH GRANDPAS DAD AND UNCLES AND A BROTHER EITHER WORKING OR RETIRED- TERRE HAUTE IS BY FAR THE BEST PRISON STAFF WISE IN THE WHOLE SYSTEM- WE GET A MISSION AND GET THE JOB DONE-

There isn't a prison in the country, state or federal that does not have issues with shanks and other weapons, inmate on inmate, inmate on staff violence and so forth. There have been stores of staff on inmate violence. Hell, I think it was in CA the had some guards basically game fighting inmates. The only way anyone is going to know about what happens in prisons is if you have lived in one, worked in one for have a friend or family that has. I love the people that start out comment with... well... I saw on a documentary once...

The riot in New Castle is because the Arizona inmate were not recieving privilages that they had been promised, and they were protesting. Most of it was property damage, they told anyone not wanting hurt on involved to stay down, and as soon as the E Squad showed, it was over.

I think it was just the point of who would want to work at a place where the people you are serving could just rendomly stab you... I have to say I like the comment that at least in the prisons you know who is stabbing you in the back lol...

Sorry to hear you are so tired. Maybe all the hours you work overtime at the prison. All the stress you deal with on a daily basis.
Maybe you need to get away and relax!

The incident could of been avoided if only that imcompative warden we now have had know what the heck she was doing. She was told by the Duty LT and the Capt the night before that the facility needed to locked down, do to an attack and that fact that they knew it would hit the fan in the morning. She said there wasn't enough reason to lock down. This warden is a joke of the facility, with no respect at all from the custody staff. They need less Psy as wardens, and more wardens whom have had dealing with inmates. And yes more staffing, would make a difference, but lighten up the top heavy Bureau, and more staff that deal with these offenders, focusing on the USP's.

The federal prison is undergoing bad leadership at the moment. The incident several days prior to the riot should have been a clue. Perhaps the warden hasn't had any experience working the big house so here's a tip. IF YOU HAVE AN IMATE ALMOST BEATEN TO DEATH, THEN YOU SEE AN INCREASE IN INMATES GATHERING IN LARGE GROUPS AT UNUSAL TIMES (LIKE 6:00 A.M.)YOU MAY HAVE A PROBLEM! YOU MAY WANT TO THINK ABOUT PUTTING THE PRISON ON LOCKDOWN TO PREVENT FURTHER ATTACKS ON INMATES WHICH PUT YOUR STAFF IN HARMS WAY. EVER HEARD OF SAFTEY AND SECURITY OF THE INSTITUTION???? But I say that didn't happen because it's easier to bury your head in the sand and hope it all goes away. When you have someone wanting to climb the ladder they don't want anyone in Washington to think things aren't running smooth at Terre Haute.
So the warden is willing to put staff at risk in order to pave the way for future promotions. That goes for the staff that has followed her hoping she will dribble a few crums for them. I'm so sick of polictical ass kissers running things and not caring about those who are truly in harms way.
It seems the less you know the higher you climb!!!
