I think it is ridiculous for youth football to practice more than 2 or 3 nights a week. That is a great way to burn them out! I am beginning to believe you parents are in it for yourselves and not thinking about you children. When they hit middle school, then 4 or 5 nights a week, okay! When they hit high school, that will all they will from camp and beyond. Allow them to be little, they dont stay that way for long!! Remember, let THEM (your children) enjoy it! After all less than half play beyond youth/middle school anyways! Have a great season!
Burn them out...really? Football season lasts what? 2 months? My son LOVES to go to practice, looks forward to football season from the time it ends until it starts up again. If the kid loves it and wants to go, I'm all for it, whatever he wants to do. Play the violin, sing in the choir I could care less. My sons passion just happens to be sports so that's what we do. We go from football into basketball into baseball into track into football again...over and over just like that....BY HIS CHOICE..Its parents like YOU who try to live through their kids by making him sign up and play when he obviously didn't want to because if he wanted to he would be upset that practices were being cut and then you would be upset too because your kid was upset...GET IT??

WOW! I would have thought you needed at least a basic level of professionalism to be a VP, but I GUESS NOT!!
Anyone else had problems with her rude and disrespectful way of treating people?
LOL... and the worst part is she really thinks she is running something!

what i would like to know is how does one even get into these "football board meetings" are they private to the parents or community or what? is there an opportunity for us to vote board members, elect a board member, request to be on the board, etc? does any1 have any idea? like, where do these precious board members come from? please if anyone has an idea, let me know, maybe then al this anonymous shit could stop, but not 1 coach has EVER invited me to a board meeting so I could voice my concerns/opinions...just wondering

My son has practiced 5 days a week (even when school is in session) since he began playing youth football. He's an athlete, he loves school and sports. 3 days a week, and we have already missed a week of practices...craaazy?!? Those parents who only want them to practice twice a week probably have couch potato kids addicted to video games that don't wanna get off the couch! Don't punish the boys who WANT TO PLAY, my son counts down the days til football begins. I support him in all of his activities, so far in his young life sports are his thing. He knows he must have amazing grades if he wants to play sports, and sports have offered a discipline that some of these other kids despereately need. Hopefully they get this practice thing settled, if you don't want your kid to practice 5 days...don't bring him...the boys that WANT to play will be there ready to go!

what do boys do if their not playing sports? please offer some suggestions, because I would be glad to know what it is I can have my sons doing every night besides sports?! and the thing is everyone is tripping over school, why? It kinda goes hand in hand good grades/sports...I mean why are we making this an issue when there is no issue? atleast let the kids attempt to get good grades and do sports! you punish the kids by taking sports away WHEN and IF they bring home a bad card?!! what are you people thinking? and as far as only half make it past middle school? half of who? maybe YOUR kid, but my kids STAY on teams, and will as long as I have the money to enroll them and their grades are good! so what do you mean "less than half play beyond middle school" uh yeah I'm gonna have to disagree with you there...

"Fo real" ??? Are you serious? Did you forget the "r" or what? If that was on purpose I think maybe you need to concentrate more on your grammar and what you are teaching your children than worrying about football practice. I am sorry that you got yourself in a position to have kids with a father in jail. That is very unfortunate. But the point stated earlier was correct. It is totally a voluntary position as all Terre Haute youth coaching positions are. If it weren't for them, your child wouldn't have anywhere to play period. I wish everyone would quit complaining about the $70. I just paid $85 for soccer and $45 for baseball...both for the fall season and if its this hot out I really hope my kid doesn't have to go out there and practice. The $70 is not for practice time but for the equipment, insurance, etc. Aren't your games rescheduled? You aren't losing anything. Just mad because you have to deal with your child for the 2 hrs you could have had VOLUNTEER babysitting from Todd. Try reading a book to them ....WHOOT WHOOT! Maybe your teacher won't have to work as hard this year to correct your child's grammar!
Thank you Todd for keeping our children safe in this miserable heat!
sorry babe my son's father isn't in jail...but tell me this, what grade and team are you representing Erin? i think I would like to introduce myself to you..let my son read YOU a book maybe? how about it?

I'm not sure but it's the same Todd that let his buddy's 6 year old kindergartner play developmental. Everybody in town knows that Cottee was/is screwin Jennifer(Todd's wife,ex-wife whatever) and Cottees wife Emily is a whore from WAYYYYY back who is probably screwin Todd. Cottee is so excited about little Kyle playing football but had NOTHING to do with his daughter, who is is 20 and has 4 kids. I never see Grandpa Brian hanging out with his welfare dependent grandkids.
All of the posts on here really do show the intelligence level of the parents in our area. First of all, I have been a coach and have seen first hand how parents act. They want to criticize everything a coach does but do they want to volunteer their time to coach or even help out? No, of course not. They would rather sit back and talk bad about the people who do step up to the plate, donate their time and energy to coach the kids. If you don't like the coaches or in this case the Youth League Director then get off your butt, step up to the plate and volunteer for the position. Let me know how it works out for you. You can NEVER make everyone happy when you are in this type of position. Cancelling practices because of the heat was a good decision. Do you people watch the news? In the past couple of years, several athletes have lost their lives due to heat related illnesses. Nobody knows how much their kids can take before they fall to the same type of illness. I was a hard core coach as well and do not believe in babying any of these kids. However, common sense has to come into play sometime. Get a grip people. As far as the Cottee boy playing in the older league, don't be jealous. So because a 6 year gets to play in the developmental league people have to bash his parents and the director for allowing it to happen. Really? You people who are such "hard core" parents and think kids should have to tough it out and play in extreme heat temps don't think a 6 yr should play with your kids? You contradict yourselves. This poor kid is criticized for playing in the flag football league because he is too big. Now he is criticized for playing in the developmental league. So should he not be allowed to play at all because of his size? He is big for his age and a good athlete. Don't be mad because he may have taken your kids spot. I guarantee it is because he is just better. I saw the jamboree too and he did great. He is the same size as most of the kids in the 2/3 league. I am not related to the Cottees but know them well. I am not sure how saying stupid things about their personal lives really fits into the football discussion but you people go ahead. You are making all of us in Terre Haute look and soud very intelligent. How about worrying about your life and your own kids instead and spreading stupid things on this site about other people. Stop bashing the director and other coaches unless you want to step up to the plate and do a little volunteer work yourself. Congratulations you all sound very intelligent and are giving Terre Haute a great name! Let the coaches be the coaches. We are not setting a good example for the kids in our area when these types of postings are being made. I pray that none of the kids in our area are actually reading these posts. All of you need to grow up, take a step back and think about things before posting them on a site where kids can read them.

If this is a set rule concerning 3 practices when school starts it has not been followed in the last 10 years. I have had a total of 4 grndsons go thru the VCYFL program. One of those grandsons I personally took to all practices. He has never from 3rd grade thru 8th been limited on practices. I remember certain parents complaining because they wanted to get a night off for catch-up homework.

I have been on the board for several years, i was around when Jim Lewis was president, Scooter and Kevin. Tom King was never on the board, as one person posed. Each one of these men -- including Todd has been a great asset to the league in their own way. Each one of them contributing a part of themselves for the betterment of the league.
Each president has has their own issues and i have seen each one of them attacked just like this. Its nothing new, however most people forget this is a voulenteer orginization for the benifit of the children. Some to keep off the streets, some to get ready for high school ball and some just to try.
No matter what i say or do to try and convice some of these people the true facts, it will just be delt with in anger and annomosity.
Guys just remember, these guys do what they can, they volenteer and make judgement calls the best they know how and not without consulting others also.
This year some are complaing about cancelling due to heat, there have been years i have had complaining parents because of a new field and too much water and mud, or one year due to too much rain.
The simple fact is all cancellations are in the best intrest of the kids. I would not want to be sued because of the heat index, or lighting, or a liability issue involving the field. I dont think you would either and can you honestly say if your child suffered from a heat stroke because we did not cancel practice you would not want someone to account for that action. "the highschool cancelled or ajusted their schedule"
We are here for the kids so lets keep their best intrest in mind as we finish up the season.
You should not make comments unless you have been in their shoes and know first hand what is going on behind the scene and the time it takes to get the season ready for the parents and players.
We have a good board, caring people and willing to voulenteer their time for football.
I am sure there is someone out there who will have a negitive comment on this. Please just keep in mind its for the kids.
i was just wondering? how does one be a part of this secret society of board members? who are they? when are the board meetings? is the public welcome?

Talk what YOU know. Maybe that was the case on your sons team, my son has practiced for years M-F five days a week school or not. Some coaches do drop down to 3 or 4 practices when school starts but its not a fact of anything being "allowed" it has always been up to the coaches. Some coaches would give their team an off day on Mon if they won that weekend. Some coaches practice 4 nights a week then have a walk-thru on Fridays before the games on the weekend. Some coaches do M-W-F. Some of the coaches have practice SIX days a week and a game so what the hell are you talking about??
REALLY! Then if they do they are breaking the rules....so I guess it isn't just Todd!!!!!

See. You're wrong one several points here. How sad that you want to put children in categories. All star teams? Please. I've seen several children not be put on all star teams that absolutely deserved to be. I've also seen many children who dramatically improved over the season NOT be put into games. These same children NEVER missed practice, was NEVER late and ALWAYS participated in practices. I've seen children have to run extra laps or do extra exercises if they were late. But not coaches children...and their children play in the majority of the games. Guess which children did not? The ones who lived and breathed football the whole season...the ones who weren't late, always at practice and participating. The other children who were not and who continually performed poorly continued to play. Fair? No. But hey! It's alright as long as you can say "MY child is on the all star team" right? Just keep in mind that this IS a YOUTH football league not collegiate or pro. ALL children who show skill should have a chance to play. You as an ADULT need to get over yourself.

Your message is so absurd it doesn't even deserve the response I would like to give. Grow up and quit dogging other people and worry about yourself and your family. Read the message before responding. I said he was criticized when he played flag football for being big not told he was too big to play. I am sure we will see you on Dr. Phil someday.
