Yes, this could be a good thing. However, I do find concern in the fact that the "Vigo County Park Dept" had the power in remove these people in Dresser from their homes, and I have many questions. Granted they would be better off living in an area that doesn't flood as often, but are they just being thrown out in the street or have they been compensated to where they can find a place to live? It's easy to say, "it don't affect me, I don't care", but that may not always been the case...maybe the "park board" will decide that it wants YOUR LAND!! First it was a license to have beer in the park, Now they want more land.
Makes you wonder what their plans are and where this is going to end!!!And all this from the "Park Board".

Awesome. I wish they would come and pay me for my back yard. With the price of gas and the fact that it floods like every time it rains it is impossible to mow. Maybe it would qualify for a wetlands too! I will give good ole Mitch a call and see if he wants an extra 3 or 4 acres!

The city of Terre Haute has nothing to do with this. This is the COUNTY Parks dept and a redevelopement board. The county parks dept and the city parks dept are two completely seperate groups. I'm not positive but I believe the great towns of Dresser and West Terre Haute are within Vigo County borders so if your not happy with the decisions being made you need to make your concerns known to your County councilmen. The city of Terre Haute has no control in what is happening west of the river.

Just do like all City's and States are doing, offer a very low bid on there property and if they refuse kick'em out in the streets, action of their other property keep the money for the City coffers.
you might be kind enought thought to let them have the shirt on their back.

No need to waste your time... the county council or the park board DON'T CARE WHAT THE PEOPLE WANT. They told us that when they voted to let Club Koyote stay in West Terre Haute in spite of not being zoned in or up to code...of course Paul and Nancy Allsup who own the building KNEW THE RIGHT PEOPLE...He's the Fayette trustee and she's running for recorder. Then the park decided to allow liquor in Fairbanks park, even though the PEOPLE said NO. REMEMBER THIS ON ELECTION DAY...it IS THE ONE TIME WE HAVE OUR SAY!!!

I do agree with most of what you say. In the past, Knowing the right people would go a lot further than using the proper channels. But have faith, politics in Terre Haute are changing, and for the better. Again I want to stress the COUNTY parks board is pushing the Wetlands issue, not the city parks board. Now the city parks board is the culprit for letting alcohol in Fairbanks Park. Although it seems the majority was against it (including our Mayor and Prosecutor) but the members pushing it through had the votes needed to pass it. Not even the Mayor had the authority to stop the bill even though he opposed it. He could veto, but they had the votes needed to over ride. So again I agree with you, if your councilmen don't listen to the people then vote them out and elect people that will listen to the citizens. I wish everyone, dealing with the county and state over Wetlands property, all the luck in the world. I have a feeling you are going to need it.

Sure, let's call it "wetlands" now that we are all closet ecologists. It would serve us better to drain it and fill it in.Let's also not kid ourselves-some big money wants the land for gambling and all it's related crap. Then we can reclaim our heritage as "Sin City"--hey, while we're at it let's bring back prostitution just to complete the package...

we keep hearing all this crap about the wetlands moving forward but the last time i talked with the owner of most of that land it's not for sale .... these idiots that are pushing this matter are not thinking very well 1st thing is all the blood sucking bugs it will let breed the last law they passed was you could not have a tire or anything that would hold water in so these blood suckers could breed or they will give you a ticket but now all of a sudden they want to buy up and flood thousands of acres of land for a wetlands then i also read they were planning to build two levees if that water is flowing in to the lowlands what the hell do think it's going go to the east and south blow through all them levees to the south

You got that right!!!! Big money wants that area for a gambling boat! The Big boys of this Terre Haute area (Big land and property owners) Im sure would have loved to see the boat.

Think about it! Why does the mob own gambling casinos???

Simple: Its an All Cash Business!!!! They put someone on the inside in the cash office and he skims money right off the top and delivers it to the mob bossess or in this case the casion owners. The government has no way to track it. The extremely wealthy (Big Property and Land Owners) are all the time trying to increase thier assests and get around paying taxes! Cash is King baby...they know this.

For them it is a no brainer but for Vigo County Residents its a no win situation. A waitress gets paid like a waitress(tips) and the Rich keep getting Richer(extremely richer)!!! People keep getting deeper and deeper into debt and crime continues to skyrocket.

Kevin Burke was all in support of this wasnt he? Why do you think he cried like a big baby when he lost??? He saw his financial future go down the drain. He would have made a nice casino manager.

One last question: Who helped Burke with his appeal???
