So, the reason the city decided to rip up Wabash and inconvenience businesses and the community was to fix the ripples caused by "railroad tracks"...well guess what? No tracks found...who is going to be accountable for this? Who approved it without even verifying there was anything under the road? WTHI reports that they claim the tracks must have deteriorated...how convenient! And good CYA response. Seriously, what is with the ineptness in this city?

Perhaps the deteriorated tracks caused voids in the concrete/base layer which in turn caused those horrible ripples. Tracks or not Wabash NEEDED ripped up and rebuilt. Deal with it. You hate Terre Haute so much then get the EFF out

Sad. Something is neglected and people complain. Something gets fixed and people complain.

If you are part of the solution the. You're either a part of the problem or your opinion doesn't matter

It's a valid question. Why does the OP think he has the qualifications to make this call? If he is an engineer or has experience with asphalt and road construction it would make his opinion viable.

I can state with absolute certainty that wabash avenue was cored and ground penetrating radar was utilized prior to the design phase.

I hate to doubt you Calm, but I would say there was no core sample taken, how can we find out?

Call the city engineers office and ask. They were taken last fall, 12 of them, 6" diameter, 18" deep. The GPR was about 3 weeks after.

Regardless of what caused the ripples on Wabash, it needed to be torn up. It was like driving on a rumble strip for like 10 blocks. Whether they found tracks or not ... that street still needed rebuilt.

The real reason it was dug up is because somewhere along Wabash there is some buried gold.

They were hoping to find it. Whether they did or not we'll obviously not know for sure.

There weren't any railroad tracks there. Just gold.

They aren't excavating below the level of previous improvements. If there ever was anything of value there it's long gone now.

The only person who contends there are still tracks buried in Wabash Avenue is Duke Bennett. Since he hasn't been held accountable for his many other lies, I imagine Hautean voters will let Duke slide on this, too.

I don't dispute the need for rebuilding that stretch of Wabash Avenue, but it's being handled poorly. East of 19th, parking has been restricted for weeks even though the work hasn't reached that area yet. If my business was along that stretch, I'd be pissed.

Really the east part of Wabash inf front of Krogers all along past the stadium is what needs redone!

Seems fishy to me. In any event, why is everyone hung up on the road being redone due to the rippling? I mean, they are ripping up the center lane...you know, the one you aren't supposed to be driving down, just using to turn. The lanes for traffic are what really blows and they aren't being done. Just saying.

When the center lane is done, traffic from one of the main lanes will drive on it while they rip out that roadbed. And when they finish that lane, they'll have us drive on the two new lanes while they redo the last one.

Logically...however, that's not my understanding...they were ripping up the phantom tracks, no mention of redoing the other lanes. Where have you seen the plan to do other lanes too? Please do tell...
I mean, the West bound lane is closed, why wouldn't they be ripping that up along with the center lane if it's closed already...right, because they aren't planning to do anything with the other lanes. Thats the issue here...everyone assumes our great city does the right thing and never do...and are never accountable.
