Too bad for the officers; their lives at stake. People whom wish to harm themselves should be left to do so. This guy will now become a State burden at our expense!

The beach at Terramaugus is not that big nor that far from th road, there should be a way to enforce the banning of alcohol on it.

The Troopers and other valiant rescuers should not have to put their lives and manpower at stake for such frivolous, drunken behavior behavior.

Hopefully this person will be given a punishment that wil fit the crime of not only his attempting to harm himself, but putting others at such unnecessary risk.

And as the recent outcry to ban boaters from drinking, after a woman has lost her life, a man has lost her,and his arm; swimmers and other beach goers should leave their booze at home, and stop putting innocent victims in their irresponsible paths.

There is no amount of money or jail time to get the life back,to get the arm back, but a simple thing like making a law and enforcing it,could prevent this tragedy and stories like this one, from happening to others.

Suicide should be a right and not a crime. Let the drunken scumbug kill hisself. No one else should get involved. And liberalism has nothing to do with it. Amen.

He probably wasn't drinking a quality beer or martini made with premium vodka.

Only stupid people who drink cheap vodka and Budweiser usually act this way.

How quick we are to condemn someone that we don't know... the problem is that I have known this young man for many years, because of the small close knit neighborhood we live in... yes, it was wrong to jeopardize the lives of those that were trying to help him... but my heart goes out to him and his family and hopefully now he will get the help that he should have received years ago.

Maybe, Marlborough should get their own boat!
Maybe there shouldnt have been so many people in that little Colchester Boat!
Maybe, the kid should be charged for the cost of the Rescue, and all the damaged equipment!

Karen, Where were you before this event happened. Why has it taken so long for him to get HELP? He doesn't want to be helped. That's why. He should be made to pay for the services he received. Unfortunately for us, the police and firefighters are trained save lives, unless the police are threatened, then they can shoot to kill. I presume the police didn't have their weapons in the water. Nor did they probably know this guy was armed with a knife which put their lives at stake. We're lucky they all didn't drown.

What the rescuers did is heroic, and what the rescued man did I don't fully understand.

But I do understand that the officers and firefighters represent us and represent our better instincts. Just as government exists to punish wrong and promote right, so the police and firefighters protect life and property on our behalf, including people who try to harm themselves and seem like they're not worth the trouble.

He will have his own trouble with the law as perhaps he should and the rescurers deserve credit for saving him.

Another drunk out there to harm society. It's like they say you can lead the horse to water but you can't make him drink. If this guy really wanted to get help for his so called problem (I believe it is a choice to drink not a problem nor an illness) then he would have gotten it. You have to want to better yourself no one can do it for you. And if he wanted to kill himself then let him as he sounds like a coward anyway to want to take his own life like that, it's called the easy way out. Make him pay for the damages he caused and for the efforts to rescue him and also for assaulting an officer with a knife, maybe that will straighten him out some. If his friends were really his friends they would give him the support he needs so that he wouldn't be out there trying to hurt himself or anyone else. Stop blaming society for his weaknesses.

Im just stunned that Steven Ericson hasn't posted that it was the State Polices' fault that this guy wanted to harm himself and that they made this whole story up and trumped up the charges on him so they could get credit for doing something.

I say good job to the fire fighters and State Police for their actions during this rescue. This is what the majority of law enforcement and fire fighters are all about not the negative press that a few get. GREAT JOB.
