Cold Case No More: Police Arrest Husband in Heartsong Murder

SIX YEARS LATER, INVESTIGATORS HAVE A SUSPECT IN A MURDER CASE THAT SHOCKED NORTH PALM BEACH COUNTY.

This case is new to me, but I wonder what kind of new technology six years has brought that blood under the victim's fingernail wouldn't have been found six years ago with the then-technology?

Admittedly, my knowledge is small, but my wife and I just returned from dinner with a couple well acqainted with Robert Heartsong and his slain wife. They say the couple was a model of marital happiness and that the victim was an outspoken advocate for liberal issues on the Palm Beach media.

The story at dinner was appalling: of an arrest and long confinement without hearing that has bankrupt Heartsong and his present wife.

Our dinner hosts pointed out that the cold case unit is now on a trial basis and that success will bring funding and permanence.

Tossing aside all the issues surrounding this case, I'd like to know: What is new about blood analysis now with that speck under the fingernail that they didn't have six years ago?

If this question cannot be answered, then Heartsong should be bonded out, so as to mitigate the damages the system has foisted upon him. At the same time, the prosecutors would not be prejudiced.(No one has claimed he's a flight risk.)

For, if there is, in fact, no new evidence, then this is an illegal incarceration, no different than we bemoan in third world countries.

Having seen Florida justice up close and personal, I, for one, believe that one cannot expect justice these days in Florida Courts.

In respect to the above comments on the Florida system I can't agree enough with what has been stated. Florida is a questionable at best state in terms of what the true objectives are in it's judicial system.
However in respect to Robert Heartsong being a flight risk, I have to say that he is and most definitely would be a flight risk. He and his wife had plans to set up shop in Costa Rica and sailed there in August. They were having a million dollars boat built so they could sail/travel the isles. So I cannot agreed with the NOT a flight risk statement.
Lastly the statement made on the technological advancememnts..well I think the answer to that is obvious as it pertains to DNA etc. Additionally to note, Heartsong is NOT the only or first cold case in Palm Beach County. Prior to Heartsong there was Cindy Summers, who was charged with killing her Marine husband four years ago. She is still in PBC Jail or may have been extraditied out of state on other charges.
And again yes, the Florida System is unusal at best.

George Wilson, Surfing, I just noted your response. Let's admit everything you write is correct, again I must ask: What advances were made in the six year period between his exoneration and his arrest to change the situation?

I contend that the $328,000 grant Palm Beach County was awarded to go after cold cases with DNA advances is the reason Hertsong languishes in jail. The $328,00 is a small sum, of course, but a precursor to what might flood in next. I know the jurisdictions are scrambling for this federal money.

My friends, accomplished and wise, having known Hartsong and his first wife well, cannot believe for a moment that he is the killer. Further research shows other Palm Beach citizens who know him believing the same.

This story amazes me...I had Worked for his devious and scamming wife...who by the way told us all that they met on match.com 5 months after the murder. She had Bob on her marketing payroll ..S&S marketing..manipulating memberships for the BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU..I actually stood by her as she forged names on contracts....Been to thier house and witnesses the ongoing marijuana episodes and hearing and watching the stories of his innocense while they looked at eachother like a movie...These two were made for eathother and I honestly believe she knew the whole story of her murdering husband...Although she was on her 5th or 6th marriage, it wouldn't surprise me if she leaked this to the police for her future gain...Perhaps she should be investigated as well...

My sisiter worked for Suzanne Armstrong..she is cold and coniving and now we know why she didn't assume his last name for her marriage...We always wondered.

Revisiting this case, I'm surprised by all the posts. First, may I say I have been up to see him at Palm Beach County Jail and am Web Master for Justice4Heartsong.net .

Primarily based upon my relationship with his good friends, who say he couldn't and didn't do it, and secondarily, based upon talking with him in jail, I believe strongly he is innocent. His entire demeanor is peaceful, a relick from the hippie generation. He seems well integrated emotionally and extremely bright.

The rest of the information posted may well have some probative value. I'm checking that out.

How can the BBB ignore allegations regarding false contracts and forgery by Susie Goldstein. If I owned a business I would certainly not join the BBB. Are they so money hungry that they choose to look away? She is notorious from one who knows. I can't believe an investigative reporter doesn't do more digging.

You were looking for ex employees, well I am one. I worked for Susie Goldstein for a short time, but in that time I learned how unethical she is. I was making sales and making decent money and after training, she asked me to set up an office in my home, at my expense. I arranged for phone lines, fax lines, purchased a fax machine and a desk, plus other incidentals, all out of pocket. Within a few weeks she terminated me and advised me that it came from the home office. I asked her what the reason was and I never got an answer. I asked her for the number of the main office and she refused to give it to me. When I received my paycheck, she deducted an astronomical amount of money from my check to cover phone calls made from her office. I could go on and on, but that should give you people that don't know her a little incite as to what kind of miserable person she is.

Interesting information.

My focus, however, is Robert Heartsong, not Suzye. And I have seen nothing that changes my opinion as to his innocence. The circular logic that commission of the crime means he can't be too smart rests on a faulty foundation - with which I take issue.

Robert Heartsong was caught on video miles away at the time of the crime. His entire life, according to those who know him,including his sons, has been one of pacifism. My friends call him one of the last of the hippies, someone into Eastern spirituality. Twice the Palm Beach County Sheriff exonerated him, and nothing since has surfaced to incriminate him.

If you look on the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Web Site, you'll find Toni's picture and her case labelled, unsolved. The Sheriff is expressly seeking fresh clues from the public. At the same time, the Department is the beneficiary of a grant funded by the President's DNA initiative. The grant turns on pursuing crimes connecting with DNA advances. From the beginning, a speck of his blood was found under one of her fingernails that was earlier discounted.

The negativities expressed about Suzye - and I have no way of judging that - ought not be imputed to Robert. As to advertising on Match.com three months after the murder, I, for one, don't find that telling of anything. I can well imagine the grief one would feel and the need to get out, love and be loved.

Coping strategies vary. I recall Hurricane Andrew that utterly devastated my home and life. I recall the bleak feelings. Although we were under curfew, I had to get out of here and did. And like Robert, under admittedly better circumstances, I met my present wife, my Angel.
