What difference does it make, we already got you on the hook for an enormous union consruction project. A lot of workers are going to be paid handsomely by the mcmansion owners. One way to reduce your obligation would be to move into the white ghettos that we have scattered around the fringes of our little paradise. We call them trailer home communities. The taxes are much more affordable for the budget challenged mcmansion mortgage holder who got in a little over his head.

The Erie School Board approved a $7.2 million plan to fix up the school in February. That plan includes a new roof; completely renovating the auditorium, two gyms and some restrooms; expanding the cafeteria; new doors and windows; and new heating and cooling systems.

This is Strong Vincent renovation from September 3, 2012 article in the times...wow!!! was built in 1930 and looks gteat. Why was McDowells renovation 78 million?

Thats the Millcreek school board for you right there. So to answer your question thats whats up. Did you know at a School board meeting a board member actually said Gino and the people with him are "Ganging Up" on them. LOL!!! Another board member some time ago said Millcreek would be a better place if not for the trailer parks and the Seniors on fixed income. In otherwords they could put more liens....OH NOES I mean taxes on properties with higher values.

Up for election:
In 2013 Terry Scutella, John Diplacido, Mary Ray and Mike Kobylka are up for election.

In 2015 Mike Palermo, Judy Wheaton, Shawn Conrad, Brian Kramer, and that Ron Wilga.

Yes! If this doesn't get the attention of the people of Milcreek then maybe we deserve higher taxes. How on this green Earth can Erie renovate a school for $7.2M but we need according to those Einsteins HRLC 72M just to renovate. Then the board actually promised that it WOULD not be a Taj Mahal. We now have a bonded debt out for some 26M. That should be plenty to get new HVAC, roofing, doors, audi redone, labs, etc.

Gus Anderson has 1M set aside as of NOW to fix it up at not additional costs to the overall budget....but no Palermo, Wilga and the rest (aside from Mary Ray and John Diplacido) voted to spend another 10M on a stadium for 5,500 fans that will never come. The 10M is the REAL splap in the face from Wilga, Palermo, Wheaton etc. That does nothing to educate, it is just for the schools image.

Most of the members seem to have forgot the second of these two words "elected representative".

You become very popular when you have a 100 million to spend. Architects and bankers will suddenly know your name. I wonder how much influence Gary Winshell had on the rest of the board to make a decision that will mean millions of dollars of profit for his bank, PNC? He made it look good by resigning before the vote. Wouldn't you like to see his phone records? PNC the most powerful force in this area. The voters have no chance when PNC is involved.

Agree with the Winschell post and did his kid go to Prep? Now there is a guy you want on your board making critical decisions for our youth.

PNC loves the no bid bond contracts with school districts. Fees are instant profit. It's the most corrupt thing imaginalble being played out on the taxpayers. They did it to the city with Schemmber and now Millcreek gets their dose of PNC medicene.

Yes, moving money in the sum off 100M does gain attention.

The Gary Winshell factor you mention here is very interesting. Wasn't it Dr. Mary Ray that took his seat? Perhaps that is where the payoff will come from in some smokey backroom. Winshell makes the money and pays others that made the YES vote under the table?? Its very rare to see people interested in an unpaid office - as the board of school directors is such an office. You could be on to something with Winshell.

A few years ago Ron Wilga made a motion seconded by Tom Albert to make a contract with an "Indefinite" limit for Knox McLaughlin Gornall & Sennett law firm. Who ever gets indefinite contracts when it is customary to review such things on a yearly basis?

Yep. PNC is as greedy as it gets. They got what they needed from their agents on council and the school board.

And since they dont bid out their architectural services, hrlc can name their price. Just like they have done for every mtsd building. A prep rambler is designing all your buildings.

Millcreek is a good place to live and the schools that are here NOW are well above average. It is the future that is the concern with the No New McDowell cause.

McDowell according to HRLC and Stantec HAS NOT reached the end of its life span. Why are those who support spending over 100 million dollars being dishonest? We are in a recession and nothing even Education will be unaffected. Even if we were not we still wouldn't need a huge school with dwindling student enrollment.

It is argued the price of renovation being close to the price of rebuilding. The board didn't do its homework. It only put bids out to HRLC and Stantec. Roughly 90 million for renovation and over 100 million to rebuild. But the 90 million is a bundled price from these architects. Including a 6% architect's fee. They DID NOT explore solving this problem as an extended capital project. This would mean NO PODS and NO STADIUM. This could be done for far less if electrical systems, flooring, roofing, boiler were addressed by a general contractor on a project by project basis.

This is what Morrisville School District of Bucks County here in PA did. They saved millions by dismissing the architect and just fixing what needs fixed. Of course it helped to have an accountant as Pres on that board rather than Palermo - A bar owner that has multiple citations on it. Not one that lacks common sense in a spend spend spend frenzy.

Why is it that Cathedral Prep has been using the same building since 1921? Academy since 1930 which I might add is a beautiful building that has a lot of character. Why is it that people support this throw away philosophy?

I'd recommend individual responsibility to people that think public money in the range of $100 million just grows on trees.

Palermo went further to mislead on the radio by saying the Pennsylvania Depeatment of Education would not allow a general contractor in on this but only under an Architect's supervision could this project be carried out. Untrue as we have seen in Morrisville, PA.

Even if an Architect was needed to get state money, plancon money that would only be $8M with 100's upon 100's of other districts craming in the apps before October 1st - Is it worth spending over 100M just for a 5% chance of saving $8M???

This is like having a coupon for something you don't NEED but WANT. The coupon gives %5 off, but you took an unnecessary loss of 95%. Winning move - Throw the coupon out.

Great post No New McDowell! Palermo runs a neighborhood bar with about 10 customers per night. not exactly the Plymouth. He does not know a thing about education or construction. Oh and not to be mean, could Golde get a suit that fits?

I am a mom that supports this project but as a mom I do not support someone who would make fun of a child that would need tutoring! Did you ever think of how his child would feel if they would see these comments! You have brought this up several times and it is a disgrace! Make sure you keep using different names because if anyone ever finds out who you are I am sure there would be alot of parents that will tell you how disgusted they are with you! Find another cause to be a supporter of because you have embarrassed all of us in support of it. There are alot of kids that get tutored! Keep the kids out of it! Try to be mature and think if it was your child! Hoping you dont have any!
