I was amazed to find this format is making a comeback among nostalgia buffs. Kurt Cobain wanted Nirvanas last record to be available on 8-track. Blanks and old Lear Jet machines.-the best made- are being scooped up on ebay. I remember them as a tremendous pain in the ass. But idf correctly maintained, they sound beauti

what sucked about 8-tracks was you couldn'tcue up a song on the tape, you had to change the track to the track before and listen the whole way through to get back to it. A good player such as Lear had a ery rich, warm sound though. Part of what killed 8-track was they started making the tapes ee more cheaply, going from rubber to plastic rollers. Life expectancy for these was aout a month of hard play. Remember haing to put a matchbook into the player to make the tape line up right? Otherwise you would hear two tracks playing at once. My favorite 8-track was Jethro Tull "Benefit", listened to in friends purple V.W. station wagon.

8- track tapes are an audio medium, not a band. Though for all I know there may be a band by that name.

Stevie Ray Vaughns "Texas flood" was among the last records to be made available on 8-track and is extremely rare/collectible.

Come on get happy!~~~~~that explains my parents during one wild nite in 1966. Although I wasn't raised in a funky school bus by a mother of eight children that don't even look alike.

OMG, maybe I'm Ruben Kinkad's offspring??? But then again I always thought he was gay :\

I left my 8 track in my 70 Chevlle when I sold it. I still have all my Crosby & Crazy Horse along with my prized Eagles collection buried deep in the archives of the attic :)

Groovy, Baby!:)

High School Drag

My old man was a bread stasher all his life.
He never got fat. He wound up with a used car,
a 17 inch screen and arthritis.

Tomorrow is a drag, man.
Tomorrow is a king sized bust.

They cried 'put down pot,''don't think a lot,' for what?
Time, how much? And what to do with it.

Sleep, man, and you might wake up digging the whole
human race giving itself three days to get out.

Tomorrow is a drag, pops, the future is a flake.

I had a canary who couldn't sing.
I had a cat who let me share my pad with her.
I bought a dog that killed the cat who ate the canary.
What is truth?
I had an uncle with an ivy league card.
He had a life with a belt in the back.
He had a button-down brain.
Wind up a belt in the mouth with a button-down lip.

We cough blood on this earth.
Now there's a race for space.
We can cough blood on the moon soon.

Tomorrow's dragsville, cats.
Tomorrow is a king size drag.

Tool a fast shore, swing with a gassy chick.
Turn on to a thousand joys.
Smile on what happened, or check what's going to happen,
You'll miss what's happening.
Turn your eyes inside aand dig the vacuum.
Tomorrow, DRAG.

The 8-track tape player was invented by Bill Lear, designer of the Lear Jet. Bill Lear was a high school dropout.

To give you an idea of how Amricana 8-tracks are, 8-tracks never caught on in europe or other countries. That is because 8-tracks WERE MADE TO BE LISTENED TO IN AN AUTOMOBILE. NO OTHER COUNTRY EVER CAME CLOSE TO AMERICAS CAR CULTURE, AND THE SOUNDTRACK OF AMERICAN GREATNESS IS AVAILABLE ONLY ON 8-TRACK.

8-track is the Harley Davidson of audio technology. You had to have an ability to make repairs in the feild, to use your own ingenuity to overcome problems. Whether it was putting a matchpack in the opening to track correctly, or shaking the tape in a circular otion to loosen an ovetightened reel, to gluing pieces of sponge to replace worn pads, to lubing rollers with vaseline. Like olld Harleys, the technology was clunky and imperfect - but few if anything in life came close to the sound of an 8-track blasting out CCR through a pair of 6x9 speakers as you screamed down a 2 lane blacktop in a rear wheel drive v-8 american car. The case of the 8-track was designed for a driver to be able to remove and insert effortlessly, like a beautiful plastic waffle. How much more delicious would jumbo waffles be if they had finger grips like my plastic precious 8-tracks?

Daily Horoscope for May 23

Libra

You're in an idealistic mood today and only want to see the best in other people. This is typical Libran behaviour, because you aren't good at facing up to harsh reality at the best of times. Today, you're ready to believe that someone is a candidate for sainthood or that they're the best thing that's ever happened to you, regardless of whether it's true or not.
