Sorry but the improved land at 72/411 is for sale. They instead opened a new super store at 72/11 in Loudon.

Food City has major problems, and all of their plans are up in the air right now.

Several years ago Publix was going to buy Food City, and very nearly did. The deal fell through.

Now Publix is after Food City. They are getting ready to build stores all over Knoxville, trying to put F.C. out of business.

So ignore anyone who claims to know what F.C. is going to do since they themselves don't know yet.

How about a source for your claim? Sounds like a repeat attempt from our local expert.

Sorry, please tell that to the Loudon Food City that is advertising for help in the "new Vonore Store". Also, please tell BILL SMITH, the general manager that he is wrong.

Okay...my error...Food Lion is worried about the new Food City due to be built at 411/72. I cant imagine so may food stores with such a small area on 72, three new stores. Someone in the Food City marketing program is in trouble. I will continue to support Food Lion as their store brand is affordable and is excellent quality. Buy Food Lion and support out Village.

You obviously have a very limited menu. The difference between Food City and Food Lion is tremendous. I shopped Publix for 14 years and loved it. I visited the new Publix on Northshore and found that the only thing they had different then Food City was Boar's Head Deli Meat. Coming from NY and Florida I am completly happy with the huge selection Food City has.

Arguing with Jeannie is like wrestling with a pig. She is short on brains, but has a neverending will and capacity to make noise. Plus, you get all muddy and then you realize the pig is enjoying the mud. And the animal is too stupid to realize it is stupid.

Regarding Publix, they have actually targeted the Charlotte, NC market as their next build and have planned at least 2 new stores there. I'd look for them to expand much more rapidly there. In Knoxville, if anything they're targeting neighborhoods dominated by Kroger with all 3 announced stores so far. It's the strategy that makes sense too, most of the Florida transplants familiar with Publix likely shop Kroger and move the area having never heard of Food City, primarily a company familiar to East Tennesseeans.

As far as Food City, it doesn't seem true at all they don't know what their plan is. They just announced a new store in Greeneville. A new Morristown store was also planned but the city counsel voted down the location targeted by the developer. Perhaps this spurred the decision to go ahead with Vonore?? I wouldn't claim to know their future but I don't see why they're still building if they don't know their plan.

I use to frequent Food Lion all the time when I lived in NC but I don't know that I've ever heard Food Lion and excellent quality used in the same sentence. It's the same company that is known for the meat-bleaching scandal. They sold out of Salisbury years ago and it is owned by Delhaize, an overseas company now. I certainly understand wanting to support a store in your community though. The bigger selection at Food City now allows us to shop cheaper there as they carry more generics. At least twice the selection of meats, produce, and bakery as well.

The Food Lion here is not a typical Food Lyon. This new store is stocked for the Tellico Village shopper. It is not a big Kroger or a Publix but neither are the prices. Lion has the best store brands we have ever seen at half the national brand price. Food City never impressed me, many high prices to pay for their gas bucks deal. We were soured on them when we went into the old now closed 321 Lenior City store, very dirty. The one store that a new Vonore FS is going to kill is Sloans.
