Thank for the "tin Foil on the hat" tip.

The doctors couldn't tell me why I was peeing my pants.

WARNING: Remove tin foil on your hat before operating microwave oven.

OK, so today, 1/17/10, I'm on Bald River Rd near Bald River Campsite #11. There is the road, Bald River, then dry ground on the other side. On the other side was a tree recently cut down and laying across the river. A chain saw was not the culprit as there were large chips around the stump like it was chopped down.

Then, 50 feet away I notice another tree being hacked on but it has not fallen yet. Large wounds in the tree, like from an ax and again, large chips laying around the base.

Is this the sign of beavers? If it is and they back up the river, Bald River Rd will flood and be closed.

I see no reason why a human with an ax would go through the trouble of crossing a river to do this. Or did Gomer the camper leave an ax behind for Big Foot to use?

Did the chips look like this?

The chips appear similar only larger on the tree in the NF and like the tree in the pic, it is mostly hacked on one side.

Unlike the tree in the pic, the one on Bald River Rd has large chopping marks in it where the chips will eventually fall away.

Winter winds have brought dowm many, many trees in the NF this year. Just nature's urban renewal I guess. As a volunteer in the NF, my hat is off to the hard working people who have kept the roads cleared and open. Specially on N River Rd near the TN/NC line.

I have mentioned here that I know where some very rare, blight free, mature, chestnut trees are in the Tellico District of the NF. One of these trees was the victim of the winter winds.

Sounds like somebody is chopping them with an axe, either vandals or someone trying to get rid of sick trees.

Today, 2/27/10, N River Rd in the NF near the Cherohala Skyway has about 6 inches of snow. Stay away unless you have 4 wheel drive.

Bald River Rd [the rd to Green Cove pond) is closed. Does anybody know why?

Deep in the NF, when a certain river level drops, I have seen on numurous occasions, very, very large human-like foot prints in the exposed river bank.

It is hard to believe that such a creature lives in the NF without being seen. I am now retired. On my bucket list is to study this and a few other unexplained things I have encountered.

Has something happened to the Wild Boar Hunts in the NF? I am seeing a lot more evidence of their soil eroding foraging.

Saw what I thought was a grey wolf but didn't believe it. A group of people nearby confirmed I was not seeing things.

Once I was camped next to a group of 4 latino families. Their kids were having a ball running all over the place. I noticed a grey wolf nearby that was headed our way so I notified the parents. With all the commotion the wolf ran off. Am still amazed at this large group of latinos. When they left, their camp site was spotless, unlike some pigs that leave a mess.
