Yes it is official,on Tuesday we had 2 quakes, 2.4 on the scale.
Hospital is 20 feet closer to the Highway than it was Monday. They are planning on pumping another 5,000 cubic yards of cement under the bldg. next week. They're also thinking the new traffic signal may have to be moved out of the way.

Somebody better go check the block that's been laid for the new high school. Oh Lord, now what........ maybe they can use the 20 dollars collected from each graduate in order to be able to walk across the stage and receive their paid for diploma to buy some mortar mix just in case some cracks form in the near future.:/ and here's an educational music video for the kiddies and officials of our county.

I would almost guarantee you that you're right. The new school won't be a year old until the walls and/or floors will be cracking open.

Hey, to any semi-intelligent brain one would figure that 12 years of school, 4 of those years in a semi-prison camp full of drugs, and a kid graduates, the school board could afford to GIVE a piece of paper with a couple names on it with that heading Rhea County High School. Spend a million dollars on damn Astro turf and 4 graduates DID NOT get to walk across the stage to get their diploma that they EARNED because they did not have the 20$. But none of this matters to you. Either way the kids EARNED the diploma and the school board then charges $20 ransom money just to get what was earned. Good thing the school board doesn't run the military because if you lost a leg and was a hero that won a silver star, they would make you pay for it. This county makes me fucking sick and NO I will not pack up and move either. People like you make me sick. Kiss my ass. 20 bucks well spent... how damn stupid can you be to even think such thing. Maybe you bought your diploma from a paper mill, I never paid for mine they gave me what I earned.

I was born and raised in Rhea County and am a retired teacher (many years taught in this county). If several seniors were not allowed to 'walk' because of non-payment of $20, then I also am very upset. How many got to walk even though they still lacked a credit or two, and supposedly are going to get them in summer school?

How many of you are aware that R.C.H.S. has a 'senior coach'? That person gets paid big bucks to baby the seniors and make sure they 'have all their ducks in a row.' If a senior doesn't show up for first period because of over-sleeping, the 'senior coach' goes to great lengths to see that the student gets to school ASAP, even if it means going after the student at personal expense. The 'coach' tracks each senior throughout the year and keeps the senior on track for the big graduation day. Remind them of this, remind them of that. Be sure to do this, be sure to do that. Seems like a good deal........for the student.

On another subject, does anyone know if enough money will be left over to purchase a few gallons of paint to use on the pitiful-looking football stadium?

To Yeah in Cleveland, no offense but I am really glad this is the last my child will have to deal with RCHS. He earned an education there, he was not given one. My child graduated this year with honors. My child was late a few days, and didn't receive this so called special treatment by any senior coach. My child doesn't even know what you are talking about. I'm glad my child didn't have to be looked after that way. Then again, he didn't need to be rousted up, dressed for school, told to brush his teeth and picked up by such senior coach in order to achieve his high school diploma. He was raised right. He was instructed by the teachers and faculty once he got to the school but I am sorry to inform you, he earned that diploma because he applied himself not because some adult was assigned the task to make sure RCHS had a good graduation class for state funding and any other approval they can get from the county to continue to dump money into a school system that is poorly planned, poorly organized, but willing to break every parent in this county so the faculty can look good in a new school while all but rounding up and forcing the seniors to go to class. These kids earned their diplomas and to require they pay 20 dollars in order to be allowed to walk the podium to collect what they have earned is pretty disgraceful. And yet we have a county commission ready to spend millions on a new school, new turf, new track, for who? The Kids? if it were for the kids I believe they would have been allowed to walk that final walk without a 20 dollar fee or denied the right to claim their reward for commitment and as Mr. Levengood says, "A job well done! Mission accomplished!" Now pay your 20 dollars, take what we gave you (not what you earned) and get out of here. I'm glad this chapter in my child's life is complete and he is free of RCHS to move on with the rest of his life and future. What I am left to wonder is what happened to the $20 x over 200 students (over $4000)

Check it out on the RCHS website........

Who do you think got that 20 bux per head? I suppose this "senior babysitter" collected the 20 per head as payment for making sure they all made the grade. Matters not if they flunk a SAT, the "senior babysitter" will make certain the grades are there, make it all look good then get paid a nice profit. If this is not the case then you are saying that the Rhea County school is paying a babysitter for 12th graders. Thanks for making Rhea County look even dumber than it looks already. People that research this county will never move here, never invest here and mining coal, serving burgers and fries and living in poverty is a turn off to any person. The Internet doesn't stop at the county line. Had you paid your $20 diploma fee you would probably know that already or at least have a "senior babysitter" that made sure you at least looked on paper that you knew.

I will definitely check this out. I was not even aware a position existed nor was my senior. So right there shows that this person was not on top of their so called job. Seriously though isn't that what attendance office and truancy laws are for? As far as guiding students, isn't that what the Guidance Counselors are for? As far as transportation at their own expense, and other comments previously made, this position sounds more like a social worker. As for this senior coach position, I wonder who created such a job and for who? This county never ceases to amaze me. Telling me to move if I don't like it isn't the solution. The solution is doing things right and getting the right people in these positions that have the knowledge to do them right~!

I'm sorry, I referred to the position as 'Senior Coach.' The actual (official) title is 'Graduation Coach.'

From the R.C.H.S. website:

Judy Rodgers
Graduation Coach
