Hope you are an outdoorsman. There are beautiful trails, rivers and a lake in the mountains. A few restaurants. Subway, Hardees, Telicafe, Most popular spot is called the Beach Grill located right on the river going into the Cherokee Forest. Hope this helps. Not a great place for a single person as myself. I've got a great horse property for sale with views, pond, barn and round pen and a nice log home.

I must say this hopefully without offending anyone. I live here in Tellico Plains and so far I've experienced nothing but problems. Kids have nothing to do so they drink, do drugs, destroy other peoples property, and steal. The Monroe Co Police do nothing about this problem. It is also not a place to be an individualist. If you are NOT Christian you are considered a heathen. I find the people here very judgemental of people who are a little different. It's very hard to meet people most are from families and stay that way. I am on my way out to find a place where I do have to constantly "bite my tongue" and surpress my thoughts! You asked so I'm telling you.

I must say I am offended! I have lived in Tellico for a few years now,and I have kids!!! I admit there is not alot for kids to do here, but you make it seem as if all The Tellico kids are bad,and thats just not true, there are a few bad apples in every bunch, no matter where you live. But the one thing I can say is that most of the kids in Tellico are very respectful!! as are most of the towns people, I dont know very many places where teenagers still call people ma'm & sir, and everyone waves at everyone here, wether they know you or not. The people of Tellico Plains are very friendly wether you are a resident or just visiting! This community always pulls together to do whatever they can to help each other! I moved here not knowing anyone, not related to anyone, and I've made many friends here.Im proud to say I live In Tellico Plains. If your having that many problems, maybe it's YOU!!!

Nothin to do there except go up into the mountains and camp, fish, hunt as the law allows, otherwise sit at home as this town is the size of a parking lot.

I have lived in Tellico all of my life. I agree there isn't much to do,but we have alll survived and found lots of things to do,swimming in the summer, horseback riding, football in the fall, basketball in the winter months, soccer, track ,and softball for the girls. If you look you can find lots of things to do. Futhermore,if you don't like Tellico why the heck did you move here or even drive to Tellico. There is no other place I would live than here in God's Country with our beautiful Mountains to look at .

I married and moved to Tellico in the 80's,I have two grown sons, who by no means have lead a prefect life but are two good kids. My oldest is a preacher. If you love the outdoors and sports this is a great place to live. There are also alot of churches that would love to have you. There are other towns close by with bowling, skating, movies, shopping, etc.
Tellico is a beautiful town where the people treat you well and help anyone in need. If you have not experenced this here then there is something very wrong.

I'm from South Florida and I just bought a house in Tellico Plains. I go back and forth between two homes. I have noticed that while I'm in Tellico, I'm not upset, stressed, or any of the other emotions I feel back in Miami. My husband and I have decided to move here permanently as soon as possible. The others are right that you'd better love the outdoors so, if you are, you are in for a treat. It is beautiful here. Regarding the people, I am Spanish and mt husband Middle Eastern and we have never felt like people were judging us. On the contrary, they have been nothing but helpful.

Wow, what a very angry and hateful person (e.g. poco). Personally, if you don't like a place then please leave. Believe me, Tellico Plains would be better off! We do not like mean and hateful people.
You (poco) obviously have issues (e.g. hate life in general, abused as a child, pretentious, insecure, or just plain evil, etc.). The bottom line is that you are sad and pathetic. And, you are not worth my or any other person's time.
Just sad!

Somebody already tried that, remeber the dance place on Hwy 411, they had to shut it down because of underage sex and drugs being sold in the parking lot.

Oda-your comments are so nice. I moved to Athens and married here 16 years ago. I grew up in a town smaller than Tellico in WVA. What I've learned is that most of the time people have trouble because they move to a unique area like my hometown, or Athens, or Tellico, and want to change it. If where people left from is so great they want to change the new place, why leave? And if we all made every town different from what makes it unique, then we'd all be the same. How fun is that? So to anyone reading this who hates where they live so much, it's a free country-move! Travel! Find something that fits you, and when we all do that we'll all be happy!

As for people sticking to their family, my family in WVA was and is still welcoming to people new to town. We here in Athens are too (all my husband's family is from here). We must remember to have a friend we must be a friend.

Get a gun permit and good security systems and don't go to taverns after dark.

Tellico Plains is a beautiful small town surrounded by the hills of the National Forest. Great place to get away and enjoy true nature.
Don't tell everyone please....they will just spoil it. Rent a cabin....fly fish in the river...and head out to the bakery in town for lunch. It really is a special place. It would be nice to retire there. Not really my choice to raise a family. GOOD LUCK

I drive 3 hours, about 2 dozen times a year to get into the Cherokee NF. During the winter I am usually the only one camping in all the forest.

Using the resources of the area, so often, I thought it was my duty to spend money in Tellico Plains as I passed through. It was very obvious to me on two occasions that the clerks were judgemental, church ladies. I am not a person of color or a homosexual. Just and old, crusty, US Marine veteran that looks a tad rough around the edges. Being in three wars and 28 years in the Marine Corps will do that to a person. Being looked down on by judgemental church ladies is unacceptable.

Now all supplies are bought before getting to Tellico Plains.
