When are the sorry community leaders gonna stop passing the buck and finish the "thing" that is supposed to be a monument to all of those brave souls from the local area who gave of themselves, whos families paid to have their names remembered and got squat in return. I am coming to believe there is no pride of community in Tellico, there is a fighting spirit of false pride, but thats all. Living in Tellico has been a disappointment as far as the community goes, now the mountains and some of the folks are great, notice I said some of the folks. I would not be surprised to hear later that the local government ask the "outside business owners" to flip the bill for the completion of the memorial.
What a shame and sham this has turned out to be.

I wish someone would take responsibility for the Veterans Memorial. It seems like no one wants to take responsibility for it. I paid for my father's name to be on that memorial over 7 years ago and it is still not there. No one seems to know where the money went either. Tellico City Hall including the mayor stated it was not their responsibility, no one with the local post will take any responsibilty for it. It is a travesty and a shame that all of our proud veteran sons, fathers, grandfathers etc. Are remembered in such a way and with such disreguard but here's the rub....it doesn't seem to matter any more but those who choose to do nothing would be some of the same ones that would fight anyone who tried to do something to fix this situation

Somebody probably embezzled the money and now no-one wants to let the public know.

Typical small town political business.

Well for once today I agree with you WTF. Again the memorial is in Tellico, I am sure they were all for it when they thought they would not have to have any involvement. It is very close to being complete and it is a shame that they cannot or will not produce the few dollars needed to complete the project being it is for and about past and present members of the community. Right now it is just an eye sore that the leaders of TP should bow their heads in shame over.

I am in Athens TN, my ISP shows up as Chattanooga, I have lived over half my 35 years in Tellico Plains and have relatives that have been there for 50.

I know and am kin to people who worked on and raised money for the Memorial.

Remember when it was hell getting that broken piece of the memorial replaced?
No-one wanted to take responsibility then either.

It befuddles me to understand why they will let it sit in such a prominent place in such a state. You will see my ISP will change on a regular basis. I am one of those who chose to work and has to travel in order to do so, unlike so many of my family who seem to be as happy as a pig in slop to let Uncle Sam and other working folks care for their sorry selves.
I to donated to have family names placed and I have seen nothing but negative results, no arrest and little attention paid to the issue. The level of malaise is shocking and it is getting to the point someone needs to start waking folks up, by force if needed. Maybe a serious lawsuit against the city and the VFW or the American Legion (I think) might shake a cobweb or two.
I am just getting tired of nothing being good enough. I have to pay taxs and I deserve and will demand that I get some action if its nothing but a boot to the backside.

Sorry for asking but where is the Veteran's Memorial?

Is there a way to finish the memorial while keeping the pencil neck thieves out of the loop?

This veteran would like to help in any way I can.

Camper, The Memorial is on the end of the strip when trees have been planted .This is located on the town square as we always called the middle of town.I don't have any idea why it hasn't been completed, unless it is because at one time they were working on it and they were threatned to not work on it by an eldery man.

One thing is that somebody damaged a slab of stone during shipping, another problem is conflicts with locals as to who does and does not belong on the memorial.
I am also thinking that the memorial is not big enough to hold all the names it should.
There was possibly not enough money collected to finish it to begin with.
The local government thieves is a whole other matter.

That may be true as well. There may not be enough room to hold all of the names it should, complicated by the fact that no one has any records or listing that shows all of the names that have already been paid for to be on the memorial. It's a joke that it has been there as long as it has and no one in the city or anywhere else can get it completed. But Hey, don't you have to have someone local to fix this problem? Now nobody local is fixing this problem that I know of, but I bet you if someone got a grant or a donation to fix the memorial you would have all kinds of local concerned citizens coming out of the wood work wanting to put in there two cents.....

Yep, there would be a flock of people working on the memorial, as long as it was on someone elses dime.
Tellico has a lot of poor citizens, but there are enough well off people there to be able to pool money to fix the memorial, they are just too greedy.

Spoken like a true Democrat. Let someone else pay for it.

Hey we are only talking (in my estimation only) a few thousand dollars at most, if the memorial is repaired/finished in place (where it currently is situated). But if the money was donated, I think someone outside of Tellico should be responsible for the accounting of funds and ensuring that the work is completed. My understanding is that there have been numerous attempts by people "from here", "locals" and yet it still sits in a state of disrepair, unfinished and how many years has this been going on..... I know it has been at least been 7 years now........

You Sir just pop into a thread and throw your 2 cents worth in, without even knowing what you are talking about, acting like an idiot when you do it.
Which is in the true nature of a GOP.

In heaven "The Streets Are Guarded By United States Marines." That is a part of my Marine Corps Hymn.

Since 1775, Marines have protected our rights. Many gave their lives. In life or death we could care less about your political or religious views.

Adapt, overcome, improvise.

#1 The memorial is not big enough. Let's replace it with one that is.

#2 Collect and verify names to be put on much larger memorial.

#3 All donations to be put in an account where all transactions are viewable to the public.

Come on Vets and all others! We can do this! Who is going to be our company commander? The poster of this thread? Call a meeting and we will be there.

Camper....it looks like your ISP address changes. Are you anywhere close to Tellico Plains and when would be a good time for you to meet and could you meet in Tellico Plains? Have you seen the Tellico Plains Memorial?
