Missouri child-support law change touches many issues

There are 4296 comments on the Kansas City Star story from Sep 8, 2007, titled Missouri child-support law change touches many issues. In it, Kansas City Star reports that:

“This is not in the best interest of Missouri's children”

Children, according to popular notion, don't buy Johnnie Walker Red or engage enemy combatants in Iraq.

So why should parents be required to pay child support for someone old enough to do either?

A Missouri lawmaker from Belton doesn't think they should. Rep. Brian Baker pushed for change, and last week a new state law dropped the maximum age for child support from 22 to 21. It also set new academic standards for students whose parents receive child support.

Baker, a Republican, had wanted the limit to fall to 18, because that is when people first can vote. It is also the age at which most states, including Kansas, draw the line for child support. Read more

Here are the case files of MO DSS Family Support , Child Support enforcement workers that have the authority to issue garnishments per a judge's decision and enforce them to employers but what happens when these state employees, have garnishments against them and MO DSS does nothing to enforce the judge's ruling against their workers.

How can the state of MO, FSD, Child Support Enforcement caseworker enforce the state's rules, if they can't even follow them. They force employers to garnish father's wages for child support, saying that they have to obey the law, but they have a garnishment against them but the state isn't garnishing their wages, which means they are braking the laws that they are suppose to enforce, which means they are corrupt.

Governor Jay Nixon, D-Missouri, that lying sack of s%%t, saying that the state's dept. of Revenue, never sent records to a federal agency and then MO state highway patrol head confirmed that they did, how much corruption do we have to put up with. We have had going on 5 years of corruption enough is enough. Then the Director of Revenue, Brian Long resigns, for no reason, just because he likes to be unemployed, to collect those federal unemployment benefits. I say Missourians, we need to stop the corruption, 5 state agencies, are being directed by people that jay nixon have insisted they look away when corruption is being done, they are dept. of revenue, dept. of social services, family support division, child support enforcement & dept. of corrections. They stated when former republican president George Bush, son was in office, Democrats said, he was never accountable for his actions/role in the Iraq war, but it seems to me republicans want corruption out of politics, while the democrats embrace it as the norms, Nixon's administration sees it as the process of doing the state's business. Let's stop this.

I have been paying child support for my son for 8 years. He is now an adult and starting college, at almost 19 years old. I am still paying child support...There is NO custodial parent as my child is an adult! If I have a financial responsibility to him until he is 21 then why shouldn't his father?

I am a father who has been through the ringers from the Missouri support system. I fought for years to get custody. The system is broken and need an overhaul. i have to have discussions with my sons that all women don't bring home strange men when there husband is at work. That pot is not legal in Missouri and that mommy is not crazy she is going through a rough time. Who is the one to say that mothers are the best to raise children. OH! that would be the Missouri court system. because they know the father is the only one who will consistently keep employed. She can go live with her new husband and not pay bills. But I had to fight to get my children. FIX THE SYSTEM!

Very good article, but not surprising. My ex lied about amounts paid, when they were paid in the amount of $2,000.00 just for 2012. DSS began enforcement actions on 11/20/2012, exactly 31 days before the affidavit was signed and notarized,44 days before it was reviewed. I will return in September to file my legal issues. Good Luck to everyone else involved with the most corrupt agency in Missouri.

Why not investigate more into what the mother tells the courts? I am a very active loving father to my lil princess but in the state of missouri's eyes I am just another pile of crap. During mediation the ex lied about all her income and daycare etc. And being 34 this is my only child, never have been through this before I didnt know what to do. I have a manufacturing job that pays ok but not anywhere close to a 6 figure job. At first I paid 932.00 a month then now its 804.00 for 1 child. She goes to daycare 2 days a week. After all my bills mortgage etc was paid I basically ate on the weekends when I had her. I can not afford a lawyer at all and even requested a modification and was told no. Its a shame that fathers that are there for their children in Mo are not treated like humans but stereotyped into a dead beat from the start.

Mike P in Kc: go to YouTube look at video name "what does George Zimmermann & the Missouri Child Support Enforcement Services have in common is No Justice, No Peace, it will show MO CSE employees & MO CSE supervisors that have court judgements against them and have garnishments but the state of Missouri isn't enforcing those garnishments against their employees. CSE supervisor in the city of St. Louis, Wainwright building has a garnishment for a debt of over $40,000 and an current eviction. Where is the ethics and the accountability.

I would love to know who you are receiving help from in the State of Kansas, my ex-husband lives in Kansas he is currently $34,000.00 behind I have contacted the State of Kansas, the Interstate Child Support Division and the Governor herself and have been informed that Kansas considers my ex in compliance with his child support as long as a payment of any amount is made within any given 90 day period. My attorney thought I was crazy telling him I was getting no place with the great State of Kansas and was shocked when he was informed the same. My ex-husband lives in Kansas, has a drivers license, owns his own business with trucks, mowers and to much other business equipment to mention, has bought and sold property at a profit, has a $40k boat, lives the high life while my children are considered lucky by State of Kansas to get his bread crumbs hey he drops a hundred or so here or there so Kansas laws says he can continue to work, drive, live, have a great life at no threat of losing it how does this make any sense. My current husband and I live in Missouri a few years ago he got down on his child support by 1.5 MONTHS and was summound to court in order to keep his license yet my ex is over $32k behind and Kansas can't do anything they enforce Kansas laws even though the order is out of Missouri the laws of Missouri can not be applied only KS laws which are nothing short of a joke, try paying what ever you want on your house payment every ninety days and see how long you get to keep your home yet Kansas considers any payment of any amount in a 90 day period acceptable for the care of children are you serious?
The system is set up so that one person making an average wage can barely survive. Add child support and you have created a no win situation. Many men just give up and refuse to work... Jail is better than starving or trying to work 80 hours a week to make ends meet. The court doesn't take into account previous debts owed or anything when setting child support. It's pretty much cut and dried. I wish young people would listen to us oldsters who have been there and done that. Don't have kids until you've been married at least 7 years. If you last that long odds are you won't become a "victim" of the law.

I hope you didn't have to go into Farragut-Hemphill's "court." It (and I refuse to refer to "it" with a gender-specific pronoun that is often applied to humans with souls) will deny you your rights, ignore your claims, and bully you into submission with trumped up lies just so she can get out of work earlier in the day. I know from personal experience.

Did you have an experience in her "court?" Would you mind sharing it here? Thank you in advance.
