I was very friendly with the Mandalakis family for over 4 yrs. Stratos f@#$-ed up. He can't take back nor change what happen. I can tell you he is a great guy. Forgive and forget. Life is to short. He deserves a second chance. Stratos has given so many students guidance and encouragement. Peace out.

There are a lot of people who do not believe "great guy" would be an appropriate way to describe a person who engaged in lewd behavior at a public restroom used by children. Is Stratos Mandalakis registered as a sex offender?

it was reported in the press that Mr Mandalakis acknowledged being bisexual when arrested. How does that work when married to a woman? Is Stratos still doing the things that he's been doing all these years? One of the posts noted the interesting activity. It was well known to members of the BHS Class of 1980 what was what.

Given that his teaching certificates were revoked and he was forever barred from teaching because of the sexual nature of his offense, it would seem appropriate that Stratos Mandalakis be registered as a sex offender. Is he registered as a sex offender in New Jersey? what is he up to these days?

I had this man as a student and I understand the points of view being put forth in this debate. It hurts me to see literally a mentor to me during a time in my life where I had no direction, being judged in this way. I understand what he did was against the law and that parent that don't know him personally would be cautious and want to be warned of sex offenders, but what the concerned parents need to understand is that this man alone changed the lives of so many students during his career that he should be celebrated and not look down on for his one indiscretion. I know the Parents will respond " Well this is the one that we KNOW of" but listen to my story before you judge him.

I was new to Bergenfield coming in as a high school student isn't easy, if you don't remember " Parents" that time isn't easy for anyone. I didn't know what I wanted to do with my life all I knew is that i wanted to sing like famous pop stars. When my math teacher heard me sing one day she immediately took me to meet Mr. M. I was hesitant on why I was even there. She began to introduce me and asked me to sing for him and so I did. He offered to let me into the choir if I wanted to. After that I began to sing more on a professional setting. He personally helped me get into Regionals, County, State Choirs. My freshman year I got a lead role in our school's annual show called the Pop's Concert. As my high school career went on I saw as my life got more focused on music, fellow classmates of mine were dragged into drugs, failing grades, fights, and dropping out. By senior year, I was extremely happy with my life and it was literally because of the music dept. namely Mr. M and his efforts to help every single one of his students succeed in their dreams.

By December, we all noticed Mr. M acting distant, and without a word, sometime in December, he left and all of the students were caught off guard. we asked the teachers but no one would say why. Eventually we found out and none of us NOT ONE cared. I asked my mother what she had thought and she didn't care. Mr. M was very helpful for me and my mother during hard financial times and we didn't have money for trips and such. Mr. M was the definition of a great teacher PERIOD. I only wish half the teacher in the US was as good at their job as Mr. M was. He helped all of us student become better at all aspects of life and we all miss him to this day.

I am now 24 years old I have gone on to graduate Full Sail University (one of the top 10 schools for Music Production) with a Bachelors degree. I owe it all to my choir teacher Mr. M. I hope this helps show a little more than just news clippings and what you read on the internet on official reports. What you read in the plain text of black and white court room cannot define a person. Thank You for reading this post it came out longer than expected.

I had heard about Stratos Mandalakis' arrest a few years ago while reading 'The Record' (Jersey daily paper). I had known him when he was a Boy Scout at our church way back when, and he seemed like a very kind and 'together' person. I did not know him in the ensuing years afterwards, but had heard what a great and respected music instructor he was while at Bergenfield High. I am sure he realizes his mistake, and has probably suffered enough. Of course, I, like others, are hoping his actions did not involve anyone underage at any time. I only hope that his wife and children are doing well, and that they got the help they needed, and that they are able to move on to a life of normalcy.

It is important that people are diligent in reporting instances where teachers are convicted of crimes that involve illegal sexual activity. I understand that Stratos Mandalakis was a teacher at Bergenfield High School who was arrested and convicted for a crime involving behavior at a rest area. I understand that a man from Haiti was also involved. It would be helpful to know more about the activities of people who have been found to be criminals--especially when of a sexual nature>

Strokeus Mandawakus.. was simply shaking more then twice to dry. Its a justifiable response to a split stream and i don't condem his actions for this. The police officer should not have been looking at the penal area whilst he was at the urinal. Sure he found suspicious actions.. but what was he originally looking for? Cheap mental pics? Quick size comparisons? Random curiosity?

My baseball teacher taught me by yelling once when i was taking to long to relieve myself that "more than two shakes is playing with myself" .. I therefore learned to avoid such situations. Mandawakus should have played more baseball.. But can we really PENALize a man for not playing baseball? I think not. But then again.. Baseball is an American sport so maybe it was his national duty to try?

Should a person arrested for a sex crime be allowed to teach a children's choir, head youth groups or work for a children's playground company?

In my opinion the answer is a resounding No! Was Stratos Mandalakis required to register as a SEX OFFENDER? He was convicted of engaging in a lewd act. In one of the proceedings it was mentioned that Stratos Mandalakis and a male from Haiti did things where children could have appeared. That is EXTREMELY TROUBLING behavior.

Where does STRATOS MANDALAKIS work and reside? Is he a REGISTERED SEX OFFENDER? It is scary to know that he may still stop at rest areas and do the things that resulted in his loss if teaching credentials.
